Easy to use

These are a great alternative to twisting, especially for those who may have a hard time with it due to carpal tunnel or other problems. It works for me!

An improvement over twist grinders

I have arthritis if both thumbs so twisting a grinder hurts both hands. This grinder is better but does still require a firm grip with one hand. The hand holding the grinder can be pinched by the lever until one learns the grip it lower on the barrel. Has good output of salt per grind of the lever.

not complicated

most of the pepper mills I have the grind adjustments are terrible most fail to work but this one is by far the best easy to use easy to refill and it grinds perfectly love it!!!

A Must-Have Item for the Kitchen

I initially felt a little buyer's remorse: why get this "luxury" item for the kitchen when my basic pepper grinder and pepper shakers are already in use? Well, it turns out I was eschewing freshly ground pepper from many things because the strain on my mild arthritis was having more of an influence than I even considered. Once I purchased this grinder, I started invariably using it in lieu of the other dispensers: the powdered pepper tastes like dirt compared to the fresh ground pepper, and this grinder is a breeze to use. One downside is where you fill the pepper: easy enough to access when you want to, but also will open up if you accidentally drop the grinder--as a side note, this was exciting to my dog ("the 'foolish human' dropped food for me!") until he discovered that he's not into peppercorns. I suppose that is just extra incentive for me not to be clumsy. It's not recommended to wash out the interior where the peppercorns are placed/ground; I'm mindful of sanitization, so for a non-disposable food utensil, I'm a little wary of this. Perhaps this contraindication would be obvious to others, but it wasn't to me prior to purchasing. I overall congratulate myself on this purchase, it really does make a difference if you get tired using the regular grinders (or have arthritis).

This is great!

The media could not be loaded. I really love using pepper mills and having fresh cracked pepper on my salads and just with my regular cooking. I recently fractured my right wrist and have been having a very difficult time using my pepper grinder. I found this one on Amazon and used it as soon as I received it. And boy, this is a game changer. I know my video is not great but you can get a rough idea of how easy it was for me to use it even with my recently healing right fractured wrist. Highly recommend!

Easy to use especially for disabled or elderly

Great salt and pepper grinders! A little expensive but so worth it especially for me as I have arthritis in my hands. So no more buying loads of batteries or struggling to grind, so simple back and forward movement. You can change how coarse or fine you want, they are large and sturdy. Easy to get a grip if you lack mobility. Easy to refill. I love them, won't go back to using anything else. At last I've found what I was looking for. Very happy customer. And they arrived very quickly. A good range of colours. ????????

Finally a pepper mill that is flawless

I just love it, I can grind large quantities quickly and have good control of the size of resulting product. The « drawer » for easy fill is an amazing idea. My GF still prefers rotary ones though, but I’m the cook in this household and even with wet hands I can use this one.

Wonderful

I bought this at Christmas and we've used it every day for the past six months or so. It's robust, and so easy to use. We've had many pepper grinders over decades and this is the only one that's worked really well. Brilliant gadget.

I absolutely LOVE these!

I had been 'humming and hawing' over getting these for ages as I had gotten into the habit of replacing all of my kitchen gadgets, but I decided against it as the simple glass (and somewhat dirt-cheap and recycled) salt and pepper grinders/mills I had been using were functioning perfectly, but this all changed last week when one of them broke. Having already done my 'research' and settled on getting these Kuhn Rikon ones, I gleefully decided to order one of the red ones to see what it was like. As always, it arrived super-quickly thanks to Amazon Prime, so I excitedly opened the package to see what the grinder was like, so without further ado, let's get on with the review! >>>>WHAT'S IN THE BOX? Er... What box? If you're expecting these to arrive in some fancy retail packaging, you're in for a bit of a let-down. My one arrived in one of Amazon's jiffy bags wrapped in a cellophane bag and with a carboard tag tied to it with an elastic band. I guess in terms of plastic pollution this is a good thing, eh? >>>>FIRST IMPRESSIONS? It's a little difficult to give a first impression on something which has just got a single purpose, but in terms of build quality and the quality of the grinder mechanism, it was love at first sight. >>>>FILL 'ER UP! As this comes with nothing much in the way of instructions, I was initially confused as to how to fill it with salt. There's nothing in the way of a bit that unscrews as is normally the case with salt/pepper mills, so it was with some delight that I pulled open the 'chute' on the side of the grinder and realised that this was how to fill it up! Within seconds I had a box of sea salt crystals and was gleefully filling up the grinder. >>>>RATCHET AND CRANK Oh. My. GOODNESS, these things are fun! In addition to how kooky they look, they're equally kooky to use. Instead of the usual twisting mechanism that 99% of salt & pepper mills have, the mechanism on these comprises of a lever which you push forwards and pull backwards that turns the grinder. You can adjust the coarseness of the salt/pepper by turning the dial in the recess at the bottom of the gadget and then throw the lever forwards and backwards. The amount of salt/pepper that comes out while enthusiastically throwing the lever is impressive and the effort required to do so is minimal. >>>>SUMMING UP These are absolutely fantastic salt/pepper/spice grinders with a great, kooky design and bold looks, which are surprisingly fun and tactile to use. I can't vouch for their longevity yet so the jury's still out, but I have no reason to believe that they're not going to last. There's one thing for sure though - you bring these out during a dinner party or when friends are around, and they're going to be a talking point.
