Works well even when abused
I've bought 3 of these now to use on my motorcycles. They aren't really made to be used outdoors on a bike, but have held up remarkably well. The first one made it through 5 or 6 seasons mounted on top of the instrument cluster on a KLR 650. It finally died last year after suffering through about 16,000 miles of roads, trails, dust, vibration, and rain. I think it was one too many rain storms that finally did it in. They aren't waterproof, but I put electrical tape over the buttons and sensor hole and that was good enough to survive many rains with only the partial protection of the small fairing in the KLR. I also mounted one on my Seca 750 using the same trick. It gets a little more protection from the larger fairing on that bike, so I expect several more seasons out of it. For both bikes, I mounted the remote temp sensor on the bottom triple clamp for the forks, and from the it gives a reasonably accurate reading as long as you are moving. When stopped, the heat from the engine skews it a bit. There is some inconsistency between the "inside" and "outside" sensors though. Even when sitting in the garage overnight where both are exposed to the same atmosphere and have plenty of time to equalize, they remain 2-3 degrees off from each other. No big deal in my case. Most of the time they are way off from each other anyway because the inside sits in the sun and the remote is in the shade. Considering I am abusing these beyond their indented use, I think they are holding up pretty well. They look nice, and the batteries last a reasonable length of time. If another one gives up, I'll probably replace it with yet another. They are cheap enough that I still feel like I am getting my money's worth even with only 5-6 seasons. There are a few things that would make it perfect though: at least some degree of water resistance, and perhaps the ability to be hard wires to a 12v source, along with a better light so you could actually read it at night. If you were using it in a car as it was designed for, I imagine it would last just about forever. All in all a neat little clock/thermometer.

It works for me
Good buy

Good, mountable, inexpensive monitor. Like it!
Good little automotive temp. read-out. Can set for C. or F. Will stay on the zone you last set it for (ie: temp in, temp out, or time). So you don't have to deal with the automatic flipping back-and-forth every second between in, out, and time. It has a bluish back light, but it's difficult to activate while driving. Update frequency is good enough for its purpose. All-in-all, I like it. It's inexpensive, mountable, reliable, and multipurpose. My first one has been working continuously without any problems for 2 years now. So I bought 2 more. -- would have rated 5 star, but it's a little too cheaply made to merit it. -- I don't know how accurate it would be as an 'outside temp.' monitor as I haven't used it for that purpose. Many years ago I had a different brand of in/out temp. monitor that I used for reading outside temperatures, but it didn't read accurate with the car running or moving so I don't have faith in these add-on units for that purpose. I use mine to monitor my heat duct output temperature by tucking the corded probe up into my floor vent. This way I can tell if it's still too cold to turn the blower on high (funny, I know, but I live in Michigan). Actually I have a slow coolant leak that I can't pin down so If my engine temp rises and my heater air temp is still low, I know to pop the hood and add engine coolant. I also use the probe in the summer to monitor my A/C temp. output because I have a leak in that system too. I've spent tons getting these two problems fixed - ineffectively I add - so this little temperature unit really helps me get an idea of what going on with fluid levels.

Inaccurate at times.
This thermometer has a weird issue. It reads about 15-20 degrees low while my vehicle is parked. Once I start moving it reads pretty accurately. I am going to replace it with a small unit that is normally used for a house.

Simple and works.
I bought this to monitor suspect refrigerator. Found out my kid left the door ajar on more than one occasion. Exactly what I needed to go the job.

Provides outside temperature, easy to install, OK quality
The cord to the sensor was long enough for me to snake it into the engine compartment and then to the front bumper on a BMW E21 body. I routed it past the front door jamb. past the antenna, and then into the engine compartment. I cannot comment on accuracy, but it seems about right when I compare with the weather forecast on the radio. Dark pavement is much hotter, while driving on light concrete is a bit cooler.

Works when it wants
Works great for about two weeks. Now sometimes it works, sometimes it freezes up, sometimes it switches to Celsius for no reason, sometimes just gives an incredibly inaccurate reading.

50% good?
The first one I ordered had a bad LCD. Missing segments! The 2nd one works. When it gets real hot inside the vehicle the LCD stops working altogether but recovers as soon as it cools. Finding a good spot for the outside sensor takes some experimentation!
