Superb Scientific Instrument
To say I am pleased with the AcuRite Digital Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Clock is understating my reaction in the extreme. After experiencing the disillusionment and heartbreak of suffering with other weather instrumentation that proved totally inaccurate regarding everything but the atomically transmitted time, I am completely thrilled. Unlike other weather stations in my experience which were difficult to initiate and misleadingly depicted a horrific rain storm when it was in reality pleasantly bright outside, AcuRite has succeeded in delivering a basic device that is supremely accurate regarding temperature and which reports that targeted task superbly. In addition, it has an attractively illuminated, adjustable colored display that is visually sharp and which can be clearly seen even in the darkest circumstances imaginable. I have found that last feature somehow delightful and even fun upon occasion. The time must be set manually but since I have an atomically directed clock nearby, precise time is not an issue as far as the desired function of the temperature device itself. That is not what was of import to me. Essential was that the temperature be 100% accurate, visually accessible at all times, and consistently reliable. The AcuRite is astonishingly excellent on all scores and meets my demands perfectly. Considering ridiculous readings of past overpriced and criminally unscientific so-called weather stations, this AcuRite model is outstanding beyond comprehension. I can confidently look at the colorfully lighted display and trust that the engineers at AcuRite have produced an instrument of utmost quality and that the temperature I see is exactly what I am experiencing ambiently as well as exteriorally. This is a highly recommended addition to the dwelling or office of anyone who finds scientifically precise temperatures vital information and require that those numbers be available clearly and consistently as the day's activities proceed. AcuRite technicians have included f and c calibrations in the design as well and have made an ingeniously timed dimming of the display available for those who may find such light somewhat sleep disruptive. The sturdy but obviously sensitive outdoor sensor is quite simple to hang and such action is suggested in order that environmental information may be received and processed properly with no obstacle as to free air flow. In contrast with the indoor display unit, which refreshingly operates on household power with batteries as back-up in an emergency, the exterior sensor functions on battery power alone. A high quality power cord is included in the instrument package and maintains a constant source of electricity for the primary interior display unit. In the event of power failure, operations will continue by way of batteries and vital calculations will be saved. Installation of a superior model extension cord with power surge protection will make placement of the primary display unit convenient as well as preserving the integrity of the unit circuitry. It is imperative that included batteries NOT be utilized as they are of inferior quality and AcuRite has made the common corporate error of cost cutting by tempting consumers with what may constitute a danger to a delicate interior design. Batteries rated as safe for installation in sensitive scientific instruments must be substituted in order to protect the two sensing units from leaks or other electronic corruption. A strongly written letter has been addressed to AcuRite, protesting this failure in judgment on the part of what is most certainly their marketing offices over what must be the utter outrage of AcuRite scientists. Despite this error, the AcuRite Digital Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Clock is undeniably the finest choice one can make after studious research in this field. Past experience with a myriad of misleadingly reviewed instruments has been both painful as well as educational, resulting in some priceless personal expertise regarding this subject. Many expensive, laughably dysfunctional, and overrated weather toys are available but as far as precision, value, and amenability to decor, this is simply the most intelligent, informed purchase you can make.

Nice display, but doesn't fail gracefully
After 6 months of use I have been amused, but not particularly well informed by this thermometer. I like the ambient light sensing facility that dims the display in low light, and the display is very clear and easy to read; easily the best display I've seen on a device of this type. Battery life seems to be quite good although I run the main unit plugged in most of the time. The wireless range is impressive compared to other devices, but placement of the remote must be made carefully as it is easily shielded by metal structures such as downpipes or tin roofing. Accuracy is OK, not great, not consistent: with the base unit and the remote sensor in the same place for a couple of days, there is a often a 2º C difference between them, which renders any comparison between inside and outside a bit arbitrary: at 10º C that's an error of 20%. I have used other household thermometers that have been better calibrated, and have several electronic infra-red and k-type thermocouples to calibrate against. As this is a household unit, not a scientific instrument it's ok for a subjective measure of temperature: if I feel like I need a jumper it confirms that ambient temperature is low enough to warrant it, and that's good enough for me. A bit of misnomer calling it Acu anything though. More disappointing is the pretence that the remote sensor is still working when it's not: mine has been showing 9ºC for the last week, rain or shine, day or night. The batteries were flat, and the unit was no longer sending data. The base unit reports the variation in the internal temp, but why it fails to notify me that the remote has run out of charge and is no longer sending anything is beyond me. It looks like it has defaulted to "last known reading" and then given up trying. No signal is no signal, people. I'm not looking for romance or nostalgia for the things that were, I just want a little bit of information about the state of things right now, and this unit only partially delivers.

Great for projects!
I got this one specifically for some small projects and kind of guessed how it would be built. I think a good combo of luck and reading carefully made this work out perfectly. So I wanted a panel display of the temperature of my camper inside and outside well like the new cars have. So the display is a flat panel that is mounted inside the battery holder side. So the goofy part is the backlit display needs the wall outlet to work but it uses 5V plug on back. Well that works good with a USB to 3.5mm cable. Now I like the clock piece so I am keeping the batteries so inside that back half I ran a jumper wire from the batteries to the 5v plug and got some higher voltage AA NIZN rechargeable batteries so now the USB keeps them charged when the trucks running and then it stays lit up and going when there is no power. I plan on 3d printing a bezel for it yet and mounting the battery side of it under the dash for the clock to stay set. I am sure that there may be other options out there but I do love to tinker and I got this one cheap on open box discount.

All is operational and running just fine.
After reading quite a few negative reviews on the 02028, I was ready for for the worse. In my case the unit connected with it's sensor in a matter of seconds, set up was very intuitive, and readings are on par with my other AcuRites weather stations in my home. Some might not like the packaging, personally I am all for it. Everything is factory sealed in tough plastic, so that customers are sure that it is indeed "factory fresh" product. Just take your scissors and appreciate that this is not a pre-opened box, of a prior defective product. Thermometre s' est relié a sa sonde en quelques secondes, configuration intuitive, lectures en tandem avec mes autres stations météos de AcuRite. Emballage a l`épreuve de marchandise retournée.

Exactly as described other than the fact that an AC connection is required for the inside device. The batteries for the inside device are only used for backup if there is a power failure. Otherwise, the device was easy to set up and was operational within a few minutes. I especially like the Auto Dim feature. Time will tell on durability. I am quite satisfied with this product and would recommend it.
