A Hardy Analog Thermometer for Outdoor Use
Finding an outdoor "garden" thermometer that displays degrees Celsius that can be seen from a distance, as through a window, has not been easy. I, for one, have tried a number of digital thermometers that display large digits, but they have not lasted long outdoors, even in the comparatively temperate climate of California. Rain got into my latest try and "washed out" part of the digits from being displayed. Fortunately, I came upon Bios Weather's Indoor/Outdoor Dial Thermometer TR605. This analog thermometer has a large, easy-to-read dial over 300 mm in diameter. I can easily read it from several meters away. This thermometer is simplicity itself. It does not even require batteries. You can hang it on a wall or fence with a nail, a screw, or a bracket by its rear hanging hole. I have found the plastic of this this thermometer incredibly weather resistant. One morning I discovered that in a rainstorm it had fallen off the fence (my fault -- I did not use a large enough nail) onto the cement one meter below. I was sure that it would be irreparable after such a fall and drenched with rain, but when I dried it off, there was no damage, and it still displayed the correct outdoor temperature! The only complaint I have is that the thermometer also displays Fahrenheit units, but at least the Celsius digits are almost 200% larger than the Fahrenheit ones, so the Celsius digits are what your eye will automatically fix upon. I don't even notice the Fahrenheit scale. The range of the thermometer is -50 to +50 degrees Celsius. Bios Weather is associated with Taylor Instrument Companies of Canada, which manufactures a variety of relatively-inexpensive weather instruments (thermometers, barometers, hygrometers, pluviometers, etc.) for home use. Bios has also been Canada's leading medical device supplier from the 1930s.

Great to learn to think in Celsius
Large and easy to read from across the yard. If you travel any where outside the USA, temperature will be in Celsius. The best way to understand it is to feel it. Fahrenheit is displayed in smaller numbers to help while you are learning. The US must make the move to metric like the rest of the World!

Not for the USA
unfortunately, the larger numbers are Celsius. Had to return it because it was too confusing when doing a quick running-out-the-door glance.

Works well. Only large centigrade indicator I could find.
The dial prioritizes the centigrade Celsius temperature scale over the Fahrenheit scale in the black ticks and Arabic numerals printed on the face. This large wall-mounted centigrade temperature dial indicator works using what appears to be a coiled bimetallic strip attached to the indicator on one end and and secured to the hard plastic body on the other. It therefore requires no batteries and contains no electronic gadgetry of any sort. This technologically spartan device does one thing only: indicate temperature. This also means there is very little that can go wrong. What failure modes I can imagine would probably require many years if not decades to play out, depending on conditions in which the device is deployed. Galvanic corrosion of the bimetallic strip may occur with time to failure depending on how much water comes into contact with the strip and for how long (ex: rain, morning dew). Ultraviolet radiation degradation of the synthetic polymer comprising most of the mass of the dial would will eventually occur if the dial is deployed in sunlight with time to failure depending on the amount of sunlight the dial receives. I have roughly two years of experience of a pair of these devices. I can say they have worked admirably in both outdoor and indoor service. Their distinguishing feature to me is the size of the dial: 12 inches in diameter.

Basic
Too small to see from any distance. Best placed right outside the window for easy viewing. Not accurate at all , but good enough for a general sense of the temperature without opening the door.

After an easy calibration it works great.
Very nice looking temp gauge and after calibrating it is accurate as well. I set up this thermometer in our kitchen with other known accurate thermometers and waited for it to stabilize, after it did I turned the adjustable wheel on the back until the pointer indicated correctly and all is well. Please refer to my picture to see where the adjustment wheel is.

It is far from accurate
This unit is poorly designed. The bimetallic spring is too tiny and doesn't respond to temperature changes uniformly. It can give an accurate reading at 0* C for example and be off by eight degrees at plus 20C. Also the scale division marks need to use longer lines at each of the numbers. It looks good but doesn't work properly. Typical China rush job!

Good value for money!
This was fairly easy to hang outside my window. It is large and so easy to read! I find the temperature to be accurate measured against two other thermometers I have. Not sure how it will withstand winters outside, but a great value for the money so far!

Damaged
This out door thermometer didn’t work properly. It is not accurate

Very lightweight plastic
Easy read. Plastic lens fogs up though. Think it needs thicker plastic and better seal
