Radio review
The volume could be a little higher, other than that they are good.

Worked Right out of the Box, but Read the Instructions
Overall, the T600's function incredibly well, are reliable and worth the price, (I bought the non-cased set). Ordered 2 sets of 2 for hurricane preparedness - gave them out to neighbors who stayed through the storm. Overall, very pleased. All four worked out of the box, no issues. See particular detail comments below... 1. You have to take the belt clip off, unscrew two screws... to replace/install the batteries. That's a challenge, as the instructions are not clear on how to take off the belt clip and if you've never done it before... PRESS tab AWAY from the unit, AND push up on the clip at same time. 2. These things are only waterproof IF you've tightly reinstalled the battery cover door, and have securely pushed in the rubber charge and earbud covers. All must be secure, or water will get inside. You cannot be charging or be using earbuds/headphones and have the unit be waterproof. Read the instructions. Don't give this to your earbud-glued kid for a surf/boating toy and expect it to work for long. 3. The T600 will do a LOT of neat things, and might be a bit overwhelming for non-techie users. I don't use walkie talkies... but was able to set these up, program the correct NOAA channel, and both (dual channels) Hi and a Lo channel. Easy set up ... again READ the instructions. 4. The Screws on the battery cover are a wide/thick slot - try a coin if you don't happen to carry a big flat head screwdriver. 5. The LED flashlight is pretty useful, and like the red (for nighttime) toggle option. 6. Complaint: These are big, thick (not heavy) handheld devices - those of us with small hands/fingers... you cannot wrap your hand around them. In fact, these are so big in my hands, that I cannot hold them securely, without the danger of dropping them - had to take the belt clip off, and they are still too big. These are made for big hands (did a guy design these or what?) Surely with today's technologies... they don't have to be that big! Wish List: wish there was an outboard battery charger for the 3.6 volt, 800 mAH recharg. batteries. Having to charge them IN the unit is not convenient or easy if you're out on the boat, in the woods, etc. HAVE to use regular AA batteries (3) at that point. However, I found the AAs (using Duracell Procells) to last quite a bit longer than a fully charged 3.6 volt rechargeable. If battery life is a priority for you, ditch the rechargables and use regular (3) AAs - if ecology is a priority, use the rechargeables. I happen to like the rechargeables, and have read up on how best to charge them to maintain their life as long as possible. The slight bit of extra effort is worth it. Lastly, a couple of reviewers mentioned not being able to hear... sounding muffled. Well, if you've got water in the speaker area, that will muffle them until it dries out. OR if the pressure changes... say you change altitudes or are in a hurricane ... lol. Yes, it can and will happen because these are watertight. Sealed very well. Simply open the battery compartment door... that will equalize the pressure - likely fix your issue. As the hurricane approached, we made sure to do that. We had no problems. Again, overall these are super walkie talkies. They work like walkie talkies should (they are not cell phones... ) and the few inconveniences, as noted above, are mostly personal quirks of mine. Super product - 5 stars.

They work great for line of sight
These things great for line of sight. Now if you're doing land nav that is going to require something different altogether. I think as long as you are aware of what your mission will be it will help with identifying if this is the right tool for you. My kids have used this for a night light and I've used this to find my lost friends in the wilderness of Alaska. This radio was well designed.

Great product, but don’t believe the 35 miles claim
You can’t go wrong with Motorola; it is certainly worth the price. The units are well built with excellent set of feature such as emergency, LEDs, and water resistant. Good range but certainly not 35miles. I know the advertised rang is never realistic, because you don’t have enough wattage to push the signal that far. I believe you need about two(2) watts per mile. Button line, It’s more expensive than the rest, but you get what you pay for

Quieter than older models, has too many quirks not mentioned in the manual
I am in charge of procuring and maintaining walkie talkies at my farm for manager communication. I have purchased at least a dozen walkies of four different models since I started 4 years ago, and these are second-worst. We used to use the Motorola MT350R (4-5 stars) until they stopped making them in 2018 or so, and they were generally the best. None of our walkies last that long due to field use, mud/iron filings getting stuck to the speaker, or getting run over or lost, but the MT350Rs worked well enough. When they stopped making them, I tried the Motorola T600 (3 stars), which was supposed to be an upgrade in terms of their IP67 waterproofing. They are quieter than the 350s, though, and you have to periodically open and close the charging port to equalize pressure inside, or they get even quieter (quirk #1, which I only know thanks to another Amazon reviewer). The sound quality when transmitting or receiving is also not as good, and they have roughly twice as long of a delay as the 350s between pressing the PTT and actually starting to transmit (it feels like you have to wait a full half second to start talking, or the other party will miss the beginning of the transmission). Quirk #2 is that the light starts flashing and draining the battery when the walkie gets wet. When this happens, you can't turn it off with the usual light button unless you first dry off the bottom of the walkie between the two metal contacts. When I was fed up with the 600s, I ordered four of the Motorola T402s (1-2 stars), though I wish I had only ordered 2 to try them out. Their max volume when new is probably ~50% as loud as the old 350s, even though as far as I can tell Motorola intended them to be a direct replacement to the 350s. Other than volume, I guess they're OK (we usually use the .5-Watt FRS-only bands 8-14, so the lower max power hasn't been an issue for us, though objectively the 402 is less capable than the other Motorolas I've bought). But the volume alone makes them useless for my purposes. Last year, I picked up two Midland X-Talker T51As (4 stars), and I've been fairly pleased with them. They are loud for their size and I think battery life has been fine. They have fewer features (not surprising since they cost half as much as most of these Motorolas), like I don't think they output more than .5 Watts, and they only have one sound option for the Roger beep, which I personally like less than the Motorola default (though that's the one I'm used to). They also aren't IP-rated for any level of waterproofing and don't have a light. My biggest complaint is probably that you can't change the volume without unlocking the radio, though that can also certainly be an advantage in some cases. I'm still on the lookout for a good walkie talkie that reliably does what I need it to....

Awesome Radios With One Flaw!
These radios are great! Simple menu and operation. The one flaw....The more you talk the quieter they get because they create vacuum inside the waterproof case with speaker movement or changes in elevation so you have to purge the charge port rubber plug or like me.... drill a small hole in the charge port rubber and super glue waterproof / dustproof mesh over the hole so it self purges. Hope this review helps others with the sound issues, simple fix!

Great for kids ! Takes AA alkaline or NiMH batteries
We bought these for our boys who at the time of purchase were 5 and 7. They absolutely love playing with the radios; we routinely play radio hide-and-seek. The features are quite good and being waterproof was a must. My one wish is that the radio used an internal lithium battery pack. The benefit of the supplied NiMh batteries is that they are replaceable with AA if you forget to charge the batteries. On-board charging takes a LONG time - this is a draw back of using the NiMh batteries. I am quite satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend them to families.

Great Clarity and goes the distance!
I was worried that I wouldn't find a good walkie talkie as I've had some in the past that barely worked, even when spending the money. My experiences with them have been poor. I needed these where I could use for my son and I to communicate on our property. It's only about 1 acre of area where I want to reach (at most) but we tested them in our neighborhood to see our far they would go without breaking up. Given the reviews about the static in between houses being poor I thought there was no way it would work in our neighborhood, outside of our yard. We went approximately 1 km and I could hear my son with some minor static, here and there. Im sure we could have went further. We took one to our neighbour's home and could hear eachother perfectly in all areas of their 2 story home and separate garage. These walkie talkies are exceptional in my opinion and for what we need them for which is basic. We don't hike or anything. Haven't taken them on the kayaks but I have no doubt they will work great there as well. Clear and super easy to use. My son is 8 years old and has fun with them too. Highly recommend if you need a good set that goes the distance. Very happy! I can't comment on the battery life because we don't use them for long periods but will watch out for that and come back to review later. *we haven't had any issues with water but we do take them on our boat and around our dock but we haven't dropped them. I have read that they can be submerged but I have yet to experience that. Will come back if and when I have a review to provide.

Fantastic Motorolas!
These Motorolas are amazing, truly worth investing in for so many customers. We've tested and returned several units from other brands. These T600s are built better using tougher materials, their design is simpler yet more effective. I've tested them to over 2 km in congested suburban areas. These radios are clear, transmit over two power levels if needed to save battery use. Zombie killer green is awesome also, easy to notice if misplaced outdoors. Micro USB charging is the way to go also, could solar charge in power outage. Waterproof, not splash resistant as most are. Highly recommend.

Range is not as far as it claim
I bought 2 sets for the kids to use. The best range we get in the city is roughly 1.2 KM then we get cut off. Took them out for a walk within the city to test it out. One thing we noticed is we need to hold the button for 2 second or so before started to talk and 2 second before release the button. otherwise other receivers will not be able to hear. We tested the unit in terms for waterproofing ability. My kids took it to shower and it's still working. We will wait and see when we take them for ski trips this winter. Price is not bad compare other brand.
