Good radio, needs better instructions, need a decent charger.
My wife had fallen. She can get out of bed, but needs me to help her get up and help her walk. I was using Alexa, but then the internet went down. Alexa occasionally announces things that have no meaning to me. I live in a housing development near a small town. I scanned the channels and found no one on any of them.. I choose channel 11. I did not have to use the extra tones, since there were no others on any channel. On low power it will talk inside and outside. The volume is probably too low, to hear when I am riding on my mower. I can sort of hear it, but not well enough to know for sure. The mower make a lot of noise. I have to turn it off, if someone comes up to talk to me. We live in a brick house. Midland LTX630VP3 is a pretty good radio. I like the 2 year warranty and the screen is large enough for my old eyes to see the channel number. I choose yellow on black for the case. Midland is a recognized name in handheld FRS radios. I did not need a GMRS license, because I was not going to talk very far. I think about 2 miles is all that it will talk on an open field. 30 miles is mountain top to mountain top, if the atmosphere is excellent and using GMRS 50 watt radio. It has an excellent battery charger, The 2 units snap in. Unlike the Baofeng, where I have to try again and again to get the radio in the charger. It weighs a little more than 1/2 the weight of Baofeng UV5R. I clip it in my shirt pocket and do not know that it is there. I charge it 6 hours at night and the red light never goes out. If I used it all the time, I think I would need some rechargeable AAA batteries. Three things that Midland did not do. 1. The battery case has no way to reasonably remove it. But a small screwdriver or knife, inserted just below the serial number, in the middle, and wiggled will help get the case off. The screwdriver make no mark on the case. 2. Midland does not tell how to insert the battery. I am including a photo that shows where the the tab goes. (lower left). 3. Midland's instruction manual, with 3 point character size, is too little for me to read. There is a PDF manual, not at Midland, that has full size print. I am returning the radio. I needed a radio that I could have turned on for 16 hours, then recharge in 7 hours - at most. The radio is in standby 98% of the time, for about a 16 hours day. This battery takes over 12 hours to charge, so I can not use it. It would take rechargeable batteries to make it work. It is a not convenient to remove the clip and to get a knife to open the case. I had ordered the batteries and a charger. After thinking about the daily removing, installing, charging of batteries for two devices, two times per day, I will need to return the charger and batteries. Another manufacturer make a 3000ma battery for a radio. It takes 5 hours to charge. It is also, lower priced than this radio and the charger and the batteries. I will need to go with that radio.

Great walkies & bundle deal!
Using these for a two-building veterinary hospital and staff loves them! Ordered extra earpieces so al have their own ear piece and designated walkies in different zones. Have two only charging stations is soooo much better than one location. Highly recommend!!

Just ok
My husband had a stroke in October, we got home in January. He can't be alone and had to have help when standing and walking. I use it to check on him if we are on opposite ends of the house. The discrimination said these have a late range but I could communicate while I was on the she shed so I had to come in. My house is approximately 25 to 30 feet away from bedroom window and still could reach. Iwanted to take them on our cruise but I may have to purchase another set with better range.

Good, clear sounding radios. I like them!
I like Midland products. I find that they are generally better than Motorolla's cheap radios. The FCC ID of this radio is MMALXT600PA. An Internet search for a test report reveals that max transmit power is 450mW on FRS and 740mW on GMRS. I use these around the house and they have great clarity. So far they seem to be great "cheap" radios. They came with rechargable packs, which is convenient for when the kids leave them on and let the batteries die. When these fail. I'll use rechargable AAAs. PRO: - Small, light and easy to use. - Good clear sound. - All sounds can be disabled, including the power-on beeps. - DCS or CTCSS tones can be used to reduce interference. - Radios really snap into the charging base. This is great. Much better than relying on gravity. CON: - The extra channels 23 through 36 aren't new channels. They are pre-programmed with a mix of FRS and GMRS channels with a digital or analog squelch tone. Confusing for someone using two different radio models. - Scanning takes you through these "extra" channels as well, so scanning through the 22 real channels takes longer. Low power FRS channels are 8-14. Radios set to these channels are restricted to 500mW, this is 1/2 watt. Not very much. This can also be a good thing, as nobody else will be transmitting with more than 1/2 watt. This means less interference. Use a CTCSS code to help block interference from other users. You will only hear people set to your tone. In the unlikely event that you are transmitting at the same time, you would hear them too. The GMRS channels also have a high power setting. I suspect that it is one or two watts. No way to tell this for sure, as they no longer state the transmit power of the radios. I have yet to test against another radio. Five watts is maximum for a hand-held of this type. A GXT1000 is capable of 5 watts. For comparison -- professional UHF radio with 4 watts can reach through 1 mile of densely populated area with lots of trees. If you spend more than $60 you might get 4 or 5 watts. Keep in mind that IF you had a 5 watt radio, compared to .5 watt, you'd get 10 times the coverage, but only three times the distance. This is because the power spreads out in a circle. Super tech tip: The best CTCSS tones to use.. Many people tend to use tone 1 because, hey, what's the difference.. But its frequency is 67Hz -- close to 60Hz power -- and it is relatively low and therefore slow to detect. Working in electric substations, I learned this for myself. For quicker detection, and to avoid interference, use a higher tone like 210.7Hz and stay away from multiples of 60. My favorites are 31-35. These are a good second choice: 25-27. Look up CTCSS frequencies for yourself and make your own choice. If I do any performance testing, I'll update this review. I have a great Midland GTX735 radio I can compare this one to. Good luck, -Chris Extra channels revealed! I went through the channels while scanning with another radio. Here they are: Midland Extra channel, True channel, CTCSS or DCS, GMRS or FRS: 23 1 38(C) GMRS 24 3 38(C) GMRS 25 5 38(C) GMRS 26 7 38(C) GMRS 27 15 38(C) GMRS 28 17 38(C) GMRS 29 19 38(C) GMRS 30 21 6(D) GMRS 31 2 1(D) GMRS 32 4 4(D) GMRS 33 6 7(D) GMRS 34 8 10(D) FRS 35 10 13(D) FRS 36 12 16(D) FRS Please excuse the poor txt formatting. They removed my "extra" spaces.

Can you hear me now?
Loud and clear! These radios are great for local communication. In heavily dense areas don't expect distance with all the obstructions around. It could be buildings, transformers or power lines. They are a discouraging factor we all must deal with when using Walkie Talkies. Now, out in open terrain, open water or standing on a mountain top they are fantastic! NOAA weather alerts work great also. When I first turned them on a weather alert just went into effect. Very loud warning noise followed by the alert message. This is also great when you are out and about because cellphones lose connections at times and are not always dependable. With 10 NOAA channels, you won't be missing any alerts. Would not suggest leaving walkie talkies on chargers after they have been charged, they do get very warm. Bottom line: They are worth having for a whole host of activities.

Don't work past 1km for me
These are really easy to use, however, they do not work even REMOTELY close to the advertised 30km range for me (yup, I know it says "up to" - and that is the caveat). We tried them 1km apart with no hills or buildings in between (but a couple of trees) and we got nothing, not even static. The only thing we can use these for is around our house and yard. Now if my husband is in the garage (about 80' from the house) I can call him on these - I used to walk over to it - but for the money I'd rather have kept walking over to talk to him. Not what we got these for.

Just What We Needed for the Farm
Never expected to get the massive range that is advertised since the conditions necessary for that are just about impossible. They do, however, work perfectly around our dairy farm between house and barn, house and tractor, tractor and tractor, etc. Mostly clear with a few cutouts at 2.6km away over hills and trees. Impressive. Perfect little package. Bought a second set after trying the first.

Did not last.
Husband used these for 5 days when he was going to a camp last year. Put them away and just tried them today to get ready for going back to the camp and they don't work now. Press the button to talk and it turns itself off. Very disappointed. Should have lasted longer than 5 days.

Good little walkie talkies
Got these for the kids to play with and we also use them to call each other around the house. They work great for our limited needs, we've used them outdoors at parks and forests as well, but only short range. Kids love them, they're fairly lightweight and easy to use. These offered the best features for the price that I could find, like privacy codes, recharging stand without spending a load more. You get everything you need, radios, charging stand, batteries, belt clips. Good value package! My only criticism is that the battery life is a bit short, but again our usage isn't exactly mission critical so it's not a big deal.

For the money, great for the kids
Bought these for my 8 yr old for his birthday almost a year ago. They are still going strong. Not sure what the actual distance is - we have trees and hills, lots of acreage but he doesn't go too far and we haven't tested them to see the distance. We should try that! For the price we are happy with them. Plus we can tie them into a channel with the hand held ham radio of the older brother :-)
