Works well; non slip
I bought this for my elderly dog who got used to it very quickly. The ramp is simple enough to use and I like that it will lock open at any intermediate length. Carrying it can be pesky — the “carrying handle” is a strap too tight to slide my hand under, and the “safety snap” that holds the ramp closed broke off almost immediately. I wish those two pieces were as well made as the rest of the ramp. But I’ve learned how to hold it to keep it from opening inadvertently (top down) and it makes getting my dog in and out of the car easy and safe for her. I’m giving it only four stars for sturdiness because of the broken strap, but the ramp itself is extremely sturdy.

It wins because there's no others like it.
Ok. I'll save you all some time here: What all the other reviews have said is true. Let's start with the good: It's really really really sturdy. My 100+ lb shepherd goes up and down without even the slightest bowing. It's remarkably light considering. For us, we need the absolute smallest folding ramp both in length and thickness while at the same time being long enough to be climbable. It excels at that. And now...the not so good......You will feel like at any given moment, you might loose a finger or toe in the process. The stupid plastic safety strap...I give it a month tops. I never am entirely convinced it's going to hold to begin with not to mention it's not that easy to collapse the ramp and get that snapped shut. I'll get to the big problem with the ramp in a sec. Got a few gripes first. Deploying the ramp is as other reviewers have noted, a bit of Russian Roulette. My dog is fairly obedient but he's a dog and dogs don't always stay put. Squirrel. Need I say more? So I've got a nice ramp in one hand a dog in the other. While I've gotten a bit better, watching me try and deploy this thing with one hand while holding my dog probably makes for some good entertainment and a good time to cover the ears of your young ones. It takes an act of God to get the ramp extended as far as it will go while simultaneously positioning it just so so that it doesn't slide and doesn't make ruin of that gorgeous red paint job you paid too much for. The ramp does not lock as you extended it. It depend on the weight to lock it in place. I guess it works. It hasn't collapsed yet. But it would be much easier if the sections locked when fully extended so that you could position the ramp more easily. The ramp doesn't have any safety strap either to keep it from slipping off the bumper or to the side, especially if the ground is slippery. I went to the hardware store and got two high grip rubber stair liners - one for my bumper to grip and protect the paint, and one for the ground to keep the bottom of the ramp secure if the ground is wet. I'm sure you get the picture. But the one thing that absolutely totally completely really SUCKS is that sand paper grip that they put on the ramp. Honestly, you get one chance with this ramp. If your dog has a bad experience with it, good luck in getting him back on it. This grip paper is sharp and I knew better than to even try. Like another reviewer suggested, I got vinyl non-skid shelf liner. It's spongy -- kind of like a really thin yoga mat. The dog didn't mind it and up an down he went....twice. The second time, his nails dug in and tore the mat material to bits. So fine. I accept that. What I don't accept is that not only did the matting material shred, but the sand paper grip under it. It's awful and it's really flimsy. I ended up taking a heat gun and peeling the sand paper grip off and gluing down some industrial rubber lining. It's soft enough that the dog doesn't mind it and grips well enough he doesn't slip. That reviewer that suggested the non-slip liner used tape to pull the liner under the next section. Do your self a favor and just unscrew the rubber stops and lay the sections out flat. The bottom line: I hate it. I love it. It scares me to use it but the dog does use it. The side rails are tall and that helps!. It's stronger than any ramp I've seen and it folds up smaller than any I've seen as well. So....it wins.

BEST RAMP FOR LARGE DOGS
I purchased this ramp for my 125 pound Great Dane Mix who started having trouble loading up. I have a Jeep Liberty and this ramp was the perfect length/height for him to be able to load up in the back. I love how it doesn't have to lock into place to work - You can make it as steep or and long as it goes and it's immediately ready to be walked on, so I'm sure it'd work for many different types of vehicles. It was a bit more narrow than I had hoped and my Dane was a little hesitant to use it at first. You will more than likely need to slowly train your dog to use this ramp (like any ramp). I started by laying the ramp flat on the ground and coaxing him with a favorite treat to just walk across it. Then I slowly upped the incline using my porch stairs. Getting him used to each height. Eventually he was ready to go the height of my jeep. The process only took about a day for him to learn. Just give your dog time to adjust to it. I know a lot of people commented about the sandpaper-like gripping pad and didn't like it... I, however, thought it was perfect and helped my dog keep his grip on it and have never had an issue with it hurting his paw pads. The material will get scratches on it almost immediately, but that's life and unavoidable with big dog nails. The scratches do not ruin the quality of it, it's just on the surface which is nice. I love how it folds up nicely, although the snap to keep it closed didn't last long, but I never really used it anyways - if it's just staying in your car full-time, it stays shut on it's own pretty well. I have had this ramp over a year now and I highly recommend it to owners with big, heavy dogs. My only wish was that it was a bit wider to give the dogs more room going up and down. Now that my dog is getting a bit more unstable sometimes he misplaces a foot and about falls off the side - I'm always standing on the side during loading so I'm always right there if this happens and it really hasn't been a big issue for us but something to keep in mind for people who have long-legged dogs that don't place their feet very well. This is actually the first review I've ever wrote, but wanted to brag on this ramp because I spent hours searching for one and even purchased two that I had to return. Nothing came close to the durability of this ramp. Hope this was helpful!

Perfect for our Golden Retreiver.
Very pleased with this ramp which we wanted for our Golden Retriever to help him into our BMW X3 without having to physically lift him. The ramp is in 3 equal parts which slide open telescopically and slide back into place easily. The ramp is strong and yet light. When slid back it is held in place with a good catch and there is a carry handle. Our dog took to it on the 3rd attempt. We got him to walk on it on a flat surface then we raised it a foot and got him to walk it with a treat and on the lead, then we moved it to the boot of the car and he walked on it with a treat as a reward and on the lead to guide him. This is not the cheapest ramp on the market but is very well made and in this case you certainly get what you pay for. Excellent product. Recommended.

Strength without the weight
I have a wonderful, large Newfoundland and this is so great for getting in and out of the car. It is so much lighter than previous (bifold) version that I can easily manage to lift it into the back of the car after use. We bought a cheaper plastic version to go extra light, but it snapped in less than a week so can testify that the extra cost of this quality product is really worth it!

Sturdy but not for the faint-hearted!
Works a treat, dog very keen to climb up and sand-paper-like surface means no slipping even in a downpour. Looks sturdy enough to last a lifetime. Only downside - or trade-off - is that it is a chunky to use. The aluminium keeps it light but even so it takes two hands to handle. Side runners can sometimes stiffen-up, making it difficult to open. Sand-paper-like surface means you can easily graze you hands if they slip when putting it up or closing it down.
