Best value in mini-U locks, now in a key-free version!
The Bulldog Mini is already the best value in mini U locks. I have several full-sized Onguard Combo locks (so I don't have to juggle lots of keys), and always wished for a Combo version of the mini. My wishes are answered! The Bulldog is a superior Mini to the also-popular Kryptonite Mini for several reasons. It costs half as much. It's slightly larger, which is great because the Kryptonite is just a hair too small for locking a mountain or cyclocross bike to some public bike racks. With the Bulldog, you know almost any diamond frame bike (short of a fatbike) will be lockable to almost any bike rack. Also, the Kryptonite's carrier sucks, and their locks rattle like crazy over bumps. Onguards don't rattle, and their mounts are more versatile and easier to install. Plus I'm still mad that Kryptonite sold locks with round keys for 20 years while FULLY knowing they could easily be defeated with a Bic pen, only changing their design when it finally became public. For most of my use (daytime lockup in moderately crime-prone but well-trafficked urban areas), I'm not too worried about the security of a combination as opposed to key-based lock. It's REALLY important to never trust your bike to a cable of any kind, and like most good U-locks this model can be cut in a couple minutes with the right tools, but it's a noisy job that attracts attention and takes some time. I imagine the combination lock slightly reduces this lock's security, but how many thieves carry around stethoscopes to pick high-security combination locks? I wouldn't entrust my bike to this lock overnight in a quiet, high-crime area, but then again I wouldn't entrust my bike to ANY lock in that situation. I'm not in Manhattan where thieves will blatantly chop locks in broad daylight in front of passersby: everyone knows you need an ultra high security lock there, and this is not such a lock.

BUY THIS LOCK - SAVED MY BIKE
I spent some time researching bike locks and the consensus was that the Kryptonites were on the useless side. My husband got a Kryptonite and I got this Onguard. Honestly, I had been somewhat frustrated with getting this lock on my bike. It's on the smaller side, so you need a pretty specific angle to get it through both the frame and the wheel. But I had read online that that was better for security (harder to get a good angle with a grinder). Well, this past weekend there was an organized bike "heist" in by building's bike garage. My husband's bike, as well as other Kryptonite-locked bikes were stolen. The Kryptonites were cut through and left behind. My bike (parked next to my husbands) remained intact. It even looks like the thieves tried to cut it, but couldn't make much progress. Thanks, Onguard!

Quick Mod for Storage
The problem with these bulky Ulocks is the lack of practical storage options. The Least favorable option is putting this in a backpack while you bike. Fortunately the clip system seems robust enough. The problem was the screws included did not fit my Trek Road Bike Frame. Either too short or too long. The long screw was a safety hazard and it will cause injury. Don’t buy! Easy to break.
After using it for 3 weeks everyday, bike was stolen. The security camera captured a guy using a hammer and with one swing broke the lock! You have been warned.

it works, with some practice
beside the cable being on the short side, it is great all in one solution to keeping my bike save, just takes time to learn how to lock it efficiently.
