Very very good!
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the user interface it a little clumsy, I would have liked more buttons to control the functions. That said it works very well and having the thermocouple probe makes it even more versatile. I bought it to measure the temperature of molten lead which I haven't done yet and don't know how it will work since the directions say... IR thermometers don't work well measuring shiny metals. Even if it doesn't work for the lead, I'm keeping it because it is versatile and useful. Recommended.

Great Digital Infrared Thermometer
This infrared thermometer is very easy to use and very practical. Besides keeping track of cooking temperatures in my cookware, - I have learned where all the areas in my house leaks heat/cooling, - checked various parts of my refrigerator/freezer for level of cooling and freezing, - checked the outside temperature in a few seconds - monitor how cold or hot my car gets - and the list keeps growing.... What a wonderful toy for us big kids. One warning: The picture of the thermometer kit and case is misleading. The free thermocouple is not a probe, it is just a wire. It works, but just having a wire to measure temperature is rather useless. Not something you want to dip into liquids or over a flame. Even with this misleading advertisement, it is still a wonderful piece of equipment.

Nice unit but not accurate on IR
This is a nice, small, versatile unit and the contact thermometer portion seems to be accurate as far as I can tell. However, the IR thermometer reads 2-3 degrees low for some reason. I contacted Mastercool support and they said to return the item for repair or exchance, so I did... this is my second (replacement) unit and it reads low like the first. Mastercool support then said to adjust the emissivity setting to get the IR to read the same as the contact probe. That is not an acceptable solution because I was testing on a surface that had an emissivity rating of .95 according to the emissivity charts and the unit was set for E of .95, so the IR reading should have been correct. If I have to misadjust the E setting then I have no accurate idea of how to set it when reading a different type of material... I would have to use the contact probe first again each time which would be a major pain when switching to reading different materials. I will be returning this unit and trying a different brand.

Great value!
This is my first infrared thermometer that I have purchased. As far as casual testing goes, the measurements are readily reproducible and seems accurate (I don't have the equipment to test for accuracy). The device is very easy to use. I only needed to use the manual to active the red laser pointer. The trigger button on the gun is a bit stiff. The immersion thermometer seems to be sturdy, but not that accurate nor easy to read (it has a tiny dial). It was a bonus so I cannot complain too much. The case is sturdy and well designed. Pros: adjustable emissivity, 30:1 spot ratio (cheapies tend to have 8:1 to 12:1). Appears durable. Cons: stiff trigger button, display is not backlit.

The probe thermometer isn't digital
The infrared thermometer seems to work well but I was VERY disappointed when i realized the probe thermometer was just a crappy little dollar store looking one (see to the left of the photo). The "Immersion Probe" that is referenced in the title is a wire.... with nothing on the end of it, just two little bare wires sticking out....??? I don't about you but I'm afraid to "immerse" it in anything. The whole reason I chose this one is because I though it had a probe thermometer that gave a digital readout on the gun.... Again, very disappointed.

Excellent Thermometer
Simple to use, and very long range. Excellent for my paranormal team as it has the additional ambient air probe that comes with the case. I was pleasantly surprised to find 2 AA Batteries with the case as well - perhaps I missed that in the description of contents. Great options, great price, fast shipping, very durable - Definitely recommended for anyone who needs fast and accurate surface temperatures. (Also the 30:1 ratio is spectacular.)

Good product no instructions
I love the product, however, the instructions were so poor they didn't even tell how to turn the unit on. Also, it has many functions on it that I have no idea of how to enable them. Very disapointed.
