Lund Bike Carrier
I ordered the bike carrier because I wanted to have a little more storage capability if needed. The Lund Bike Carrier seemed like a feesable option. I could haul bikes AND firewood if needed. I recieved the product earlier than expected, a few days earlier actually. That made me a happy consumer. I had to wait a couple of extra days for the carrier to come in before I could put it all together. That's okay. I wasn't in a hurry. The carrier came in the following Monday, it too was delivered a couple days earlier than promised. I love Amazon and that's one of the reasons. Back to the review. At first glance, I thought this looks good. This will work great. I mounted the bike carrier in just a few minutes. Easy as can be. I then set a bike in the rack. Hmm. Not so happy here. It seems that the wheel rack is angled out a little too far. The bike tire is hardly in it at all. I thought, well, most of the reviews stated that 4 ratchet staps were needed to secure the bikes, but I thought that the bike should at least be able to stand up in the rack..right? They don't. So, my options are 1) strap down the bikes with several (4 or so) ratchet straps 2) take the carrier off and attempt to bent the wheel slots so that more wheel can fit 3) drill two more holes towards the center of the luggage carrier so that the wheel fits better. Now there are pro's and con's to each of these. I'm leaning towards number three because I dont' want to bent the carrier...I dont' know if the weld will hold. This would allow the wheels to fit better; however, I would loose cargo space on the rack (if I needed the space) AND there may not be enough room for the bike to fit. So, right now I'm not so sure about this product. I will go back through and read reviews to find out what others have done, or if this has even been an issue. As of this moment, I dont' see this carrier as being very helpful. UPDATE: After road tripping to the Outer Banks from Delaware, I have to give two thumbs up to the rack. I DID MODIFY the rack however. I did NOT like the way it was supposed to be mounted. Bikes were just too loose. I took the advice of another review and reversed the mount so the the tops of the tire rack faced inward. The bikes were much more secure this way. I realize that I loose valuable luggage space by doing this, but as I mentioned earlier, I bought the rack and the carrier to carry bikes not coolers, or boxes or whatever.

the method used in the picture does not work very well
I mounted this rack as pictured and like many reviews have mentioned, it leaves the bicycles very loose and difficult to keep stable. I then turned the rack around and moved it back so that it hugged the tire between the lip of the carrier basket and the actual rack, choosing to place the front tire in the slot I created. Mounting it this way keeps the front tire of each bike I placed into the rack supported from the back area of that tire, otherwise the rack is about 12-15 inches from the end of the hitch carrier and facing/angled inwards, not outwards like in the photo. Only works if your bicycle does not have fenders. You must add lashing that secure the bike straight down or pulls the bikes front tire into the rack. Also, consider what type of hatch or opening your vehicle has because mounting the rack at this location may restrict your hatch. My hitch carrier allows me to adjust how far the basket is from the hitch, so I moved it out/away from the vehicle about 4 inches and it worked out.

Three Bikes on your Cargo Carrier
I purchased the bike carrier for my cargo carrier. It arrived without the bolts (I'll tell you about this later). You have to alternate bikes, front tire - back tire - front tire to get all three on. It's really easy to attach and works great. You will have to purchase straps to secure the bikes to the carrier. The carrier is great but Lund International is not. Now about the missing bolts. The first time I called Lund International the service rep was very friendly, took my address and phone number and said he would send the missing bolts right away. I called about a month later and the friendly service rep appoligized and said he would send them. I decided to purchase the bolts from the local hardware store instead. I wonder what their warrenty is like if they won't replace missing bolts. I hope this isn't standard business for the Lund Company.

Works well for 2 bikes...but 3?
Pros: -Bolted Right up -All Hardware needed was included -nice finish and quality -works even with the side bars on. ( I have the bar attachment kit on my carrier ) Cons: -I can fit 2 Mountain bikes easily, but 3 would be kinda tricky without banging up all the bikes against each other -straps are required to secure the bike in any manor suitable for driving Things to consider: -Keep an eye on the handle bars as they could hit the back window of your SUV -With your bikes all loaded you will block the license plate of your vehicle (depending on its location) -The rack does stick out so be aware of that when parking Overall for the price it still works and fit, and get the job done with some work.

Can use on any cargo carrier
Exactly what was needed. Couple things. Install backwards or it doeant work good. If attaching directly to mesh put a board or metal below or it flexes to much. Last is put bikes on the sides with the front tire in the holder and the middle bike backwards. Add a single strap over the bikes to the carrier and works great!

It’s okay.
Doesn’t stabilize really. If you let go, the bike tips over. You still need to strap all sides of the bike. Works good once you strap down bikes. Not sure if it is needed if you strap bikes anyway.

Works well, if you modify
I wanted to carry two 27" hybrid bikes on the Lund cargo carrier. I installed the first bike attachment and found it did not really support the bike as the tire could not fit far enough into the loop because the edge of the cargo carrier blocks the tire. Plus the other wheel moved around no matter how well it is tied down. I purchased another bike attachment and found my bikes were not long enough to fit into both. I solved the problem by drilling new holes in the carrier about 4 notches inward from the ones on the carrier. Now it works great!
