Difficult to clean

This is one of those things you just want to toss in a trashbag after use because you don't feel like cleaning it, then never want to take it back out to clean it when you get home. I've forced myself to clean this twice however - both times cooking over a campfire. Once steaks, the other burgers. There's actually enough room on the more narrow slats to hold burgers just fine, just scoop them parallel to the top bars... common sense. Anyway where the top wires are welded to the bottom frame, is a chore to clean. I steel wooled it both times and it came back out shiny, but... kinda tedious.

Not for heavy items

I've been using this for a while and the only complaint is that it warps and doesn't stay flat. You can't put anything even remotely heavy on it. Like a small pot of water for coffee or soup.

Use with aluminum pans and charcoal

We bought this for our first camping trip with our 8 yo son. It worked awesome although we had to make a run to the local dollar general. TIP: get some aluminum pans and charcoal. Rather than cooking over a fire cook like this. The pans fit perfect right under it and you can adjust the height of the rack by pushing the legs into the ground at different angels. Now that we know how best to utilize it we will be better prepared for future trips. We love this piece of equipment and will use it many times in the future.

Great piece of gear!

I used one of these for almost 20 years until I lost it in a move. I just got a new one, and it’s the same great piece of gear. My only complaint is that the cross-bars are wider on one end than on the other. Steaks and pans won’t care, but hamburgers might. It folds flat and it stands up to a lot of use.

A must have for camping

I don’t typically write reviews but this is by far the best investment ever. It is efficient, cost effective, and very easy to use. The size of the grill fit the fire ring just perfect. Highly recommend this item for camping. We were able to enjoy our bbq with such an amazing item.

Great for camping

Love these grills light weight strong folds flat large enough to fit over a fire pit and sit on the sides to get further away from the heat good for lower temp cooking of course you can move it down for higher heat

Best bang for your buck

My friends and I have a little gathering spot / swimming hole in the woods. There's plenty of dry wood lying around so there's no real need for a gas or charcoal grill. This thing is pretty light and compact as well so it makes transporting it really easy. I've used this just about all summer long and I'm really happy with it. Matter of fact, I just used it for my brother's birthday and it cooked up burgers and dogs for over 20 people believe it or not! I even got a few compliments on it! My only gripe with it was on the one side the wire grates are spaced out a little more. I'm guessing this is for a pot or a kettle if you are properly camping. I usually put aluminum foil over that area and its good to go.

Nice grill grate

Had one of these last for many, many years and just bought this as a replacement. The quality is still the same. Has plenty of space for pots and grilling. This is a great, lightweight grill grate for camping that doesn't take up a lot of space or weight. Would recommend.

Doesn't fit onto campfire ring

Doesnt fit over the fire. Food still cooked, but very slowly because the grill was too long and didn't fit inside the ring. Great fit over the top part, but that was too far from the coals. Cleaning was a hassle as well, since you need a hose and a grill srub. Very easy to transport though. Takes up no room in the car and it's not very heavy. Would be nice if the company had one just 3/4 the size of this one.

Its ok- it works

I bought this for my husband because he loves back country camping and bringing a stove isnt always possible. We loved that it's easy to carry light weight but we found when we made burgers they would stick or fall through. Maybe theres a special way to cook with it or maybe we will get used to using it. Hopefully that was just a bad time and it works better next time.

Grill bars are not evenly spaced

Only a small portion of the grill is actually usable for cooking meat, the rest has the grill bars spread too far apart so meats like chicken or sausages fall right through. The usable part of the grill is not even in the middle so it's hard to get it over the fire properly. So overall it's really big for no reason, can only use 30-40% of the surface for anything other than large steaks.

Not the best for a camp fire.

I bought this to put over the fire to cook food. It's very low to the ground, and I am not able to have it stand up taller and still be sturdy, therefore it is hard to place the food without it touching the coals/logs/flames. Overall it lost points for me because it is isn't as sturdy as I would have hoped. the legs are very flimsy and it has to be balanced precariously for it to stay up

Awesome grill.

Exactly as advertised. Used on an outdoor fire. Sturdy and wide enough to support two 12 inch cast iron pans at once with room to spare. Small spaced grate on one side allows you to grill directly over fire. Used over a VERY hot fire and did not warp or come apart. Very pleased with this and it will be brought along on all my backcountry trips.
