Works but clamp design is so-so
Works but clamp design is so-so because the metal tips end up not opposing each other well which means the readings vary hugely based on how you (mid)hold the wire in the clamp as demonstrated by the pen in the attached photo. I get wildly varying readings for amperage.

Well Worth The Price
Great meter that has plenty of ways to read various voltage and resistance.

cheap, but it works
I never thought much about the audible indicator on a continuity test, but I miss it on this thing.

Great value
I needed a meter that would cathe a leak in it did. Kind of cheap plastic case but it holds the cables and meter and that’s what counts.

Great Price...Easy to Use.
I ike it but have little use for it. I've only used it basic functions and I have no idea as to its accuracy. The documentation is OK but very difficult to read....very small print. I might update this review when get to use it more often.

Why have these become my go-to?
So, I've got a couple of these. Like, they're just good enough? I do a few kinds of science, and I seem to always grab these when I need a meter. Why? I couldn't tell you.

Initial Impression.......GREAT Value!!!
I received my UT201 yesterday so this is an initial "impression" review with some limited testing of the features. My background is an IBEW inside wireman (electrician) of approximately 13 years, mostly commercial/industrial though with some residential. I've had multiple voltage testers and multi-meters over the years. The last 6-7 years I've been using mostly Fluke testers and meters, my primary being a Fluke T5-600. I purchased the Etekcity UT201 since I wanted an inexpensive True-RMS CLAMP meter for (the occasional) metering of wires too big to fit in the slot/jaws of my T5-600. The UT201 had, for the most part, very positive reviews on Amazon and the price could not be beat for its feature set. The 400A max is adequate for the vast majority of time I would need to check bigger wire. Anyways, out of the box, the UT201 seems to be of impressive "heft" and quality for its price. The display and markings are clear and easy to read. The two leads (black and red cables with probes) are a good length. The thickness of, and insulation on, the leads, though not up to the level of the Fluke or other more expensive testers/meters I have used, seems quite good for the price point. I would not be uncomfortable in using the meter in applications up to its rated max of 600V. Some reviews I read stated the meter other purchasers had received did NOT include a case. Mine did and the case is appropriately sized and of a decent grade material. I tested the voltage and amperage measurements of the UT201 against my Fluke T5-600. I tested the current (amps) draw of my Shop-Vac, a quartz halogen light and hairdryer (on high heat). The amps measured were virtually the same between the Fluke and UT201. I mean plus/minus 0.1 amps, which is negligible. Voltage was check at several different 120V receptacles around my house. Again the readings were virtually identical, plus/minus 0.2 volts. The only other feature I have had the opportunity to "check" is continuity. Just crossing the lead/probe tips indicated continuity (as it should), though the contact of the lead tips did not seem as "sensitive" as other meters/testers I have used. Perhaps due to the newness of the leads or type of metal used, not sure. I wouldn't deduct a star for this, maybe 1/2 a star if that was an option. Though long term it may not even turn out to be an issue. Other reviewers had "complained" about the lack of auto-ranging and auto shut-off. At this price point I do not expect auto-ranging. My unit DOES have an auto shut-off feature built in (around 15 min. of non-use) and I believe it actually beeped when it shut-off (though I was in another room at the time). User instructions were included. They were relatively clear and I believe they would be relatively easy for a new or novice user to follow. There was no UL listing on the device or in the instructions that I could find. In summary, my initial impressions of my new UT201 are very positive. I can't comment on the durability or long-term accuracy, since I only received it yesterday. It is for that reason that, as of now, I will only give it a 4-star rating. Based on what I see and my limited testing, I would definitely recommend the UT-201 to someone looking for a (very) reasonably priced, full-featured, clamp-on multimeter. If during the course of time and usage I have any significantly negative experiences with the unit I will try to update this review.

Great quality at a budget price
I am impressed with this very compact meter. The presentation of the product is well done. It arrived in retail packaging with a heavy, full-colour box -- the box does not add to the product's usefulness, but it is a good first impression that conveys a sense of quality. Opening the box I was pleased to find that the meter came in a zipper pouch -- simple though it was, yet still very nice to have since it keeps all the parts and instructions neatly together. There was also a wrist strap for the meter, another nice touch for those times you use it while standing. The leads also were nice, with the side that connects to the device being a shielded banana-plug with protective caps on them. The plastic housing is solid feeling and good looking. Using the product is also a pleasure. Battery was included. Volrage is auto-ranging and auto-accuracy -- DC starting at millivolts with one decimal point accuracy and then once into the single-digit voltage range giving three decimal places of accuracy, whereas AC starts at single-digit volts with three decimal places of accuracy and advancing to 3-digit voltage with one decimal place of accuray. Only the amperage has multiple settings on the dial for 2/20A and 200/400A. I'm only using this around the house so will likely never go into the 200/400A setting, but am impressed it can measure such high current. The rotary switch has a solid feel to it with a positive click as each function is engaged. Press the "max" button and it beeps, then take your measurement and the display holds the max reading so you can read it after removing the leads. I have owned many meters in my life, and this is the best yet. I am very impressed and happy with this purchase.

Coming from an Electrician
I have been in the electrical trade for just about 12 years now, and this meter is sufficient. Those commenting 1 stars on amperage readings are nullified (an amperage reading can only be taken off of one wire (requiring a $20 splitter if you do not want to take a wire apart), I say this to help in your decision making as i did extensive research for a cheap meter). Would i use this out in the field? No, for safety reasons. Could it be used out in field? Yes, but i would highly recommend a better meter. This is an excellent meter to have around the home, the price cannot be beat, the meter seems to be somewhat of a decent design. All in all i would recommend this meter for house use only, as you will not get a true RMS reading (100% accurate readings; those saying the readings are off, this is more than likely why...). This is a cheap at home meter. Out in field i would recommend a true RMS meter, making sure it is CSA approved and of decent quality. Thus far i only know of Fluke to make true quality meters meant to last. But you can get away with a $75 Klein or Brand Name i've been told. Hope this helps.

works great and not expensive.
It came in an original manufacturers box. It is rugged and works as stated. I purchased the unit because it was not expensive and I will be using it rarely. I have a pump in the lake. When water isn't coming up I wanted to know if current was going to the pump. I measured the current to test unit out and it looks like it measured roughly what the rating of the pump is (depends on how much and how high the pump is pumping water). I am unable to confirm the accuracy of the device. However in my opinion just the placement of the clamp may affect any similar unit. It is still new therefore I can confirm durability. I don't use the other features since I have a excellent multimeter . Like all multimeters it doesn't read AC current. Pity I couldn't find an adaptor for my regular meter to read AC currents.

Pretty nice instrument, even nicer price.
I was in the market to replace an old, non-digital multimeter and found this Etekcity UT201 offered up for a very reasonable price! The addition of an ammeter loop was a feature I was looking for in the new instrument. This instrument is very well design allowing either hand to make adjustments to the Scale ring due to the knurling on the edge. The device itself is very easy to use with a large 3-digit LCD display and the notations are clear, colourful and intuitive. I think I am going to be very happy with this device as I expect it will be with me for a long time. Comes with carrying case and battery (installed). Very nice quality leads are supplied! I also purchased the Etekcity Test Lead Kit model TL-809 which is an excellent compliment to this meter. My only wish would have been for an ammeter which also measures DC amperage but for that I expect I would have been paying a much higher price.

Warranty Registration issue
Product performs all functions as detailed in user manual. Like the two port feature as my other digital meters require changing ports when wanting to change from voltage to continuity readings. Only issue encountered this far is when I attempted to register product for warranty. The website does not have a product category for the multimeters they manufacture. Have sent email to support email which was acknowledged but nothing else thus far
