Does it’s job
Convenient until it’s time to clean it. They should make it so that you can unplug from the base so you can dump out the water without having to (in my case) have to move furniture to get to the outlet. Otherwise, we’ve had no issues and our cat likes drinking from it.

Gismo gets his drink on!
My special guy has a drinking problem. He scratches at the dish. This fountain is sturdy enough for his 15 lbs of power, and he only sometimes now gets his neck and top of head all soaked. Go, Gis! It's a little loud but he's not afraid of it, like he is the dropping of q-tip.

The cats love it.
After it arrived, I cleaned and assembled the "kids" new water dish. Max the cat doesn't do well with change, so he had to observe the water flow for about 15 minutes. He stuck his paw in the water flow, put his face into the water flow and splashed water around the area. He always likes the water coming from the bathroom sink faucet, so I figured this would be perfect for him. He has now embraced the new drinking fountain and still studies the water flow.

My cat loves it
Just bought another one after my first one died after 6 years of being used every day. Easy to clean and change the filter.

A great fountain to promote hydration.
They say curiosity killed the cat, well once your cat gets curious with this fountain. They will be hydrated for life. Make sure to clean it and replace filters or it will get funky in the wrong way.

Nice for the price, stream not noticeably adjustable
I have been very happy with this fountain overall. I really only have one con so I'll start there, the adjustable flow is not that much different between low and high. This was a disappointment as of my animals my main reason for purchasing this was that one prefers a slow stream out if the faucet to water bowls to the point of waking us at 3 to turn on the sink. Now the pros. On my pros I will note some things where I have read complaints from people on this fountain regarding this that were just common sense to expect and therefore not cons. I've had the PetMate fountain in the past and only one of my cats would use it as it was very loud, that is very much an improvement with the Drinkwell, if kept full and the motor maintained it is very quiet, my fish tank motors are louder. But for those who expect completely silent I add by quiet, yes you can hear water running, but that should be expected when you order this trickle style design verses a flow design. Any motorized fountain will make some noise, what impresses me is that the motor is very silent. For a fountain the maintenance is rather easy. Yes it's weekly but if wanted main range free pet care we'd have pet rocks. Most the parts are top rack dishwasher safe and a soft pipe cleaner style brush us all you need for nooks and crannies and the motor. Rubbing under some hot running water weekly will clear any saliva/hair/slime off the motor parts and for and build ups a little vinegar solution does the trick. Just be sure to rinse it clear. The motor is tricky to take apart but my husband has no trouble doing it even though I always struggle. The filters are not that expensive as far as filters go and unit will still function without a filter for people who do not wish to use or cannot afford the carbon. If your using already filtered water all it really serves is to stop large debris from getting to motor and removing any airborne particular that may contaminate the water. I haven't looked into it but it may be possible to cut a thin foam filter from fish tank floss if you want to avoid carbon. You will get some carbon dust in bowl no matter how well you rinse filter, it annoys me but it's also pretty common with carbon. I top it off once or twice a day and empty, clean, and refill weekly. If your looking for something you don't have to bother with and your reason for buying a fountain is that filling regular water bowls is too time consuming for you, consider a unit with a reservoir and just pay the extra money. For us that's a non issue as we have time, we bought a fountain to increase pet fresh water intake not ease if use. But for others maybe not so much free time. Better pay more from the start then have to buy a different model later and pay twice. In all honesty the least maintenance is a normal ceramic/glass bowl replaced twice daily. Fountains, gravity waterers, drip bottles all are harder to clean and take more work overall. Animal preference to unit has been mixed to positive. One of our three cats (a confident alpha) took to this immediately and I have noted an increase in his drinking. My eldest still goes to the gravity bowls but will also drink out if this if she is by it without hesitation, she wouldn't go near the PetMate. Our middle child is a middle child and snubs it one to spite us (yeah really she's an I'm only going to do it if it was my idea type cat) and two because she still prefers the fine stream we can create in the sink. We gave it an honest 2 week go by placing her by the water fountain every time she asked for sink water but alas no luck. As she is UTI prone we finally caved and she's back to the sink. Maybe in her own time she will choose to use it, on the plus as much of a fraidy cat as she is, the sound didn't bother her, just the stream was not as thin as she likes. She tried to use it a few times but always backed off after one or two licks.

A great convenience if you can live with a few minor flaws
Let me be clear, this thing is great. I love it, and my list of pros/cons are almost entirely pros, but there are a few things I think prospective buyers should be aware of. Still, lets start with the pros: First, there's less day-to-day work. You can go days, even a week, without touching it at all. Granted, when I do clean it, there's a good deal of work involved, but I can go three weeks without cleaning it, and when I do I run 95% of it through the dishwasher. When it comes down to it, I'd rather work at it for 20 minutes once every 2-3 weeks than for 4 minutes every day - two in the morning and two in the evening, plus time to wash the bowl when it's filmy. Speaking of which: There's cleaner water for the cats. For us, water dishes get filmy and disgusting after less than a day, but my Drinkwell takes over two weeks to get to that state. I think this has contributed to the problem we had with one of our cats drinking out of our water glasses. I think she disliked her stale water so much she'd look for fresh water elsewhere. We also had to keep our toilet seats down, which tells you how fresh she thought her bowl water was... Overall there's less mess. This might be a cat-specific thing, but one of ours, when drinking from a bowl, would lap the water up and over the side, splashing water everywhere. We have nearly zero problems with that now, even when she dips her paw in the water and licks it :) Those are the pros I can think of. Unfortunately I have a list of cons, but mixed in are some general tips I've learned while using the fountain: I don't know what people are thinking when they say that this fountain is quiet. It just isn't. First, I don't know what does it, but about half the time, the whole thing buzzes. This is a combination of the motor and the plastic plate on the top. First, the motor can't be helped. I even received a free replacement from Drinkwell, and it vibrated just as much. This vibration causes the plastic plate on the top of the fountain to vibrate and, depending on how it's seated, it buzzes like crazy, creating a very loud sound. This could have easily be solved by making the plate ever so slightly heavier. I also think that if you put the fountain on a hard surface, it has a greater tendency to buzz from vibration. I would try the Drinkwell mat, but it seems they've neglected to create one for users who keep a reservoir attached. Also noisy is the sound of the water. It seems no matter what setting I put the flow on, it sounds like what you'd think a water fountain would sound like. This isn't what you'd expect, though, when you see the protrusion in the middle of the bowl that's clearly there to reduce the sound/splash of the falling water. I eventually attached my fountain to an X10 switch so that when we're watching TV I can turn it off. Lastly, as I indicated, there's a flow setting for the water. I admit, at certain low flow levels, the sound of the falling water is not as loud. However, there's a trade-off. I've found that if you keep the water at the highest possible flow, the time between cleanings is greatly extended. On the lowest flow setting, the water starts getting gross after around 12 days. On the highest setting, that period seems to grow to over 22 days. I've left it at the highest setting for my own convenience :) My last complaint is about the motor: apparently Drinkwell is a sadistic company, because removing the motor on my unit in order to clean it is one of the most painful chores I do around my home. I HATE it! It's impossible to get your finger into the little groove they've "provided" for you, and every time I remove it I feel like I'm either going to break my finger, the fountain, or both. Putting the thing back in is no easy task either! Ugh. So there's my review. Sorry for the length :)

very loud- NO RETURNS ALLOWED
so as the water runs out of the spout, it hits the plastic nub, which is rather loud. It doesnt have the tranquil sound of water splashing out of a fountain. The flow is adjustable but not enough to offset the sound and there really isnt a need to turn it up all the way. I have cats that will only drink from the bathroom tap so I am hoping this will work, if not, the noise is totally not worth it. It seems it isnt indicated but you cannot return this product.

Great cat fountain and excellent product support!
This was a replacement for my last fountain, same make and model, which I had for 10 years. My cats love the fountain and it has never given me any problems. I use bottled water in it so have had no problems with any build up from City water. Definitely an excellent product! I feel I must add that I reduced my rating because of product support by the company, PetSafe. I was unable to register my product for warranty purposes as that part of their site is not operating at the moment. I also sent them an email and after a week they had not responded. Very disappointing! PetSafe did get back to me and handled my problem extremely well, so I felt this should be added to my comments in all fairness.

PRODUCT NOT WORKING. CHEAP BUILD QUALITY.
I happily ordered the fountain my cute persian Butters, but the device was faulty. The motor was not working and cheap build quality. Also VERY IMPORTANT do not give any negative review to the seller as they will keep on calling you like every half an hour until you remove that review. Kudos to the seller for managing ratings.

Convenience, good quality
I have used this type of fountain for my cats for at least 10 years. This fits the bill in my household, as I have one cat who likes lapping from the spout and another who likes Drinking from the bowl. With proper maintenance, the fountain lasts for about 2-3 years here, where we have very hard water. The only tiny drawback is that the motor sometimes has a faint hum, or the water dripping into the bowl might be annoying. I became aware of the noise level only because I put it in my bedroom for a while. Moved it to another spot, problem solved.
