I love the paparazzi trimmer
I bought this and it’s my 5th paper trimmer. Three for card making and the guillotine for heavy chip board. The guillotine was heavy duty and cuts great buy my cuts seemed to be off 1/16 all the time. My Carl holds the paper and chipboard firmly and the precision is great. Should have bought it first and saved a lot of money. Comes with several replacement blades and a magnetic bar. Absolutely the only thing I don’t like is since ordering the 15 inch it seems huge but I’m very happy with it. AND no assembly.

Cuts perfectly
The rotary cutter has a hold down bar which keeps your cut straight. The disks are sharp, and it had perforating disks as well. It is well made and can be used in an office or home.

Excellent paper trimmer, with useful features, especially for heavier weight paper
So far, this Carl 15" heavy duty paper trimmer is working great for cutting cardstock, Kraft board, cardboard and light to medium weight chip board. It cuts a single sheet of 110 lb. cardstock without a problem. For the heavier weight papers, I have to make several passes with the rotary blade, but that is not a problem since this trimmer has a locking rail that holds the paper firmly in place. This might be my favorite feature. Other trimmers that I considered buying did not have this feature. The product description says you can cut 36 sheets of 20 lb. paper, but I have not done that since I don't need to cut multiple pieces of cardstock or paper at a time. I imagine that will work, but you will probably have to make a few passes with the blade. It cuts accurately- but you have to "square up" your paper, since most paper is NOT square, even quality cardstock. Very important. If the paper isn't square, you can't get accurate cuts. It also has an adjustable magnetic paper guide that can be put on either the top of the trimmer or the bottom. Or you can use the trimmer without the magnetic paper guide. Other nice features are the metal base board with a measurement grid and a storage compartment for extra blades and cutting mats. It comes with an extra cutting blade, perforating blade and extra cutting mat. None of the other trimmers that I considered buying had a perforating blade so that is a plus. I also like the fact that I can easily replace the blade when it gets dull. As far as the weight of this cutter, it is not heavy. It is not very light, but I have no problem moving it around. I am very happy with this purchase. I recommend this trimmer if you need cut heavier weight paper.

UPDATE on Carl Cutter
I purchased the Carl cutter at the end of September and wasn't able to use it too much, but I loved how it worked--until one of my friends and I were working on some cartonnage projects today (Nov. 5, 2022, past the return window), and she noticed that my Carl cutter was 2mm short on the base of the cutter. WHAT? Yes, indeed! And precision is everything in cartonnage. Thank God my friend noticed, as we were cutting chipboard for projects we want to do. I panicked, realizing it was beyond the return date. I went to the Carl Manufacturing website and read the FAQs, and lo and behold, read this: Question? "Why does my Professional RT Series Paper Trimmer cut about 1/8" off?" Answer: "Odds are you changed or replaced the blade and the straight blade is reversed. Simply loosen the thumbscrews and insert the blade into the blade holder with the thicker portion of the blue facing the inside of the holder. Then load the blade holder onto the sliding handle and snug the thumbscrews. This will correctly position the blade directly next to the translucent cutting rail." My husband went in and did this, and the cutter is now cutting accurately. As to the above answer as to why there isn't an owner's manual for the Carl cutter--that it's because Carl products are designed intuitively--I say that's a bit dismissive. It would take one sheet of paper to give basic instructions and maybe include the "fix" given here. Looking forward to many more easy cuts on the Carl! UPDATE (same day as given above): Well, sad to say, once my friend and I tried new cuts on the Carl after we thought we'd resolved the issue, it was still off by 2mm, so the "fix" wasn't a fix after all. This is the advice I'd give to potential buyers: If you buy the Carl cutter, use it right away to make sure that the measurements are accurate. I didn't get around to using it until after the return window had closed. I'm having to use my centimeter ruler and a pencil, marking each cut on the chipboard, which takes more time and effort. However, I'm still pleased with how it cuts; it's much easier than other paper cutters I've used.

Very good paper cutter at a bargain Amazon used price!
Recently purchased this Carl heavy duty 12 inch rotary cutter to use for home and personal office. Bought it from Amazon as used at almost half price. The item included the extra 2 blades plus cutting strip. Everything looked like it was New condition and never used. Awesome deal to get this quality cutter at such a bargain price. I have used other lower cost rotary cutters available from local retailers which were ok but have limitations coated to this Carl machine, such as shorter cutting length and smaller bed for holding the paper for cutting. I am looking forward to using this Carl machine as it is obviously a more durable machine with better cutting wheel and bed for holding and measuring per size before cutting. It does require the use of a small lever-like device for locking the paper in place prior to cutting, but that feature makes sure that the paper is held securely in place before and during cutting. I also like the magnetic arm which can be conveniently used as a paper stop for repeated cuts. That magnetic arm does have some play in it (e.g., about 1/8 of an inch from the attached end to the other free end) but if you ensure it is set right for the first cut and test/monitor it before other cuts, I think it will be fine for most Home users, as I believe it would be far more expensive to buy a paper cutter with a more accurate system. I am rating this unit at 4 stars on the quality level as I know there are better cutters available; however, for the price I paid this is an EXCELLENT value.

Accurate and easy to use...Updated down to 4 stars
I have the 18”. I use it to cut 2mm mdf and 2.5mm greyboard for crafting. It cuts the greyboard with hardly a thought but the mdf (chipboard, artists board, call it what you will) takes a lot more effort anything from 15/20 passes. However it cuts accurately and pretty cleanly and, importantly, squarely. I tend to get bevelled edges with a Stanley knife and safety ruler despite my best efforts. It takes up a lot of desk space in use, but it’s not too heavy so easily stacked vertically in a shelf or on the floor against a wall (where mine lives) to free up space. I’m very happy with it. Updated - So a couple of weeks later. A new project required cutting 2mm mdf, which had to be accurate to the mm (previous cuts had been less critical so I hadn't picked up on the accuracy) and found that it's actually 1mm short. I measured and double checked everything, and liaised with others who use this cutter, and in the end I discovered its the magnetic guide itself. 2 things. 1. It has play where it sits on the top and bottom bars, so I ended up masking taping the area that clips onto the bars, and it now fits snugly. 2. But the main thing is that the guide isn't square. It sits perfectly on the cutter bed, but then slopes very slightly outwards toward to top, so that the thicker the material or pile of paper, the more margin there is for error. I have included 2 photos taken against a right angle ruler which I hope shows the problem, one with the guide resting normally on the ruler and the other on its side. Either way it shows a gap that wouldn't be there if it were square. Now that I know that, I use the right angle ruler to measure and butt the board against, and use the guide to hold the ruler steady. It now cuts accurately no matter the thickness. Down to 4 stars because I (and others before me it seems) shouldn't have had to do the quality control research for the manufacturer, far less find a workaround. I was going to return it, but now that I know the problem I'll keep it, since otherwise it's a good cutter.

Smooth.like.butter!
I invested in this to perfect the colouring book I'd made for my littlest sister ???? It certainly did what it said on the tin! It sliced through 10 sheets of thin card plus 2 sheets of 300gsm gloss card with no issue at all. It takes a few slices up and down but it's not physically difficult whatsoever and it made quick work of this book, plus a couple other books I'd made with the same thickness! I popped the book in as is, which is 4mm thick when closed. I'm pretty confident it could handle thicker stock, too! The magnetic ruler is pretty awesome and the whole guillotine didn't slide about on my smooth wood table. The way you clamp the blade ruler down before use holds your work strongly in place, but I'd recommend holding it down yourself too to ensure maximum precision. I've only used it 3 or 4 times thus far so I can't comment on durability over years, but I should hope for the price and based on how sturdy it seems right now that it's gonna provide years of smooth.like.butter ????
