Line is too short

Used in the Maldives. Works OK but the line needs to be longer than 45". My fins were bouncing on and off the reef. Probably 6' would be good and it could always be shortened with a knot if necessary.

Sturdy no frill hook. Does the job. Price is good .

Top dive shop quality at a fraction the cost but with one difference.

As you can see in the picture the clip on those from a dive shop is a quick attach brass one. These are steel. Would recommend buying this and then upgrading the attachment to the brass. It is still cheaper than retail but easier to use and won’t rust. Are they strong? Yes! I have used them in strong ocean currents when spearfishing. Lastly couple of quick comments from a divemaster: 1. Single hook reef hooks are easier to place onto anchor points than double hooks 2. Practice taking it out of the holder, attaching to a d-ring on your BCD and then onto rocks before you have to use one. Do it a lot. You need to be able to do this one handed, by feel only and fast. You’d be surprised at how many people can’t and then get tangled, mess it up and come off the anchor point. They drift off 300 ft and the DM has to go find them. No fun for anyone.

Good tool for diving in strong currents!!

The media could not be loaded. Good price, lightweight for travel. I was very happy I had this on my liveaboard in South Maldives (wish I had this in Palau). Simple to use: just hook under a rock, inflate a little air in your BCD, then relax in the insanely strong current watching the sharks swim by!

Line is Far Too Short (<4')

if you replace the line with a reasonable length, 4 stars. This hook and snap are fine, but whoever decided to only put 4' of line on a reef hook has never dived in strong current. 4' of line is woefully inadequate as it keeps one far too close to the anchor point, and a current change can drive one into the reef without warning or control. IMHO 6' is minimum length for a reef hook in Palau's Blue Corner, for example. I kept the item but replaced the line with a 7' length (after tying it off). One star because I think it's dangerous as shipped. I knew this going in, and bought it intending to replace the line, because it was cheap. And the rest is sturdy enough.

Heavy duty

Took it to the Maldives for two weeks in heavy current. Very strong, exactly like the ones the Divemaster’s were using.
