Great for coin hunting.
I thought i would a least wait to review the delta 4000 until i was able to hunt somewhere other than my own yard. i hunted my dentists office that used to be a house in a small town that was 50's 60's era. but the town has earlier history. this detector has settings that you would have to pay a lot more in other brand detectors like the notch setting- pin pointer-volume control - depth-sensitivity. the key with this machine is learning the coin numbers by doing air tests & then write #'s on a card to carry when out hunting to compare with the coin id at bottom & going by the higher tone coin sounds. if you use all 3 together it is almost always right. this detector does like dimes & cents. i found 4 dimes and 12 cents along with some old brass gas line fittings. i had less junk signals when i notched out nickels & all targets below it in the settings. this is a great machine that's easy to use but the more you use it the better you get using it and finding coins. i was getting deeper signals but because of old gas lines & where i was hunting i did not want to dig deep holes & leave spots in the grass so i stuck to just 4-5 inch targets. this detector tested 9-10 inches on my coin air tests in all settings.

The Manufacturer
A good product shouldn't just work good. Its nice when it looks good too. But just as important is when the company that designs, assembles and ships it backs up their product with integrity. That may sound like fluff, but if the 5 year warranty isn't appealing enough for you, the customer service, should you need it, is 5 star as well. I needed it and it was handled in supreme fashion. Great metal detector from an outstanding company

Missing Targets and Sensitive.
I am a newbe at metal detecting. I am also pretty intelligent when it comes to frequency waves and sound wave since I was involved with Sonar, Radar and other TR equipment in the past. I have a pretty good understanding of what can throw off signals and how signals can be scattered based on the objects profile and the medium it lays in. Now that you know my background let me say what I think about this Teknetics and what I have experienced. Through the last month or so I have went on about 7 outings to various parks in the Down River South East Michigan areas. I have productive days and trash days. Using the same settings at all locations (Discriminate all up to dime, qtr, 50+ and Notch in Nickle) with the exception of Sensitivity which has to be adjusted quiet often. Now with that being said most people I have talked to in the club that have been treasure hunting many years have never really put their sensitivity to more that 6 on a analog or digital system. So now this makes me wonder how all these different machines are calibrated or configured. When I am at a sensitivity level of 4 - 6 which is pretty much the most I can do around here due to chatter. The depth is only approx 2 - 3 inches depending on the target. I have found 1990 - 2005 dimes at about 2 inches on level 5. Thing I am getting confused about is the tin or aluminum crushed cans and screw tops I am getting. These are coming up as Dime solid 88 most of the time. I guess I am not using this machine correctly or I need to understand the segment number system better. I have been told this is a very good machine. I have been continually getting out targeted and out coined by my son and his 147$ BH that I even tried using. Mind you has less features then mine such as depth detection, Pin Point, Discrimination is less categories and I was 4 for 5 on target to trash. 3 qtrs, 1 dime and a piece of beer can. All with just tone and a criss cross pattern for pin point based on tone. Here are my pros I like about this machine; Lightweight Battery Life Pin Point and Depth readout excellent Adjustable sound level. Cons Detection Catagories No memory, Have to set all settings every time you turn on. Seems very sensitive lots of chatter or false target above 6 on sensitivity. I really can not rate this machine any higher because I do not believe its worth the price I paid. Again, I could be wrong and just need more practice understanding my hits. If there is anyone out there who owns this and has any suggestions...I am all ears. Thank you

so far quite pleased
For a decently priced detector I am quite impressed so far and have since retired my 2 bounty hunters. I went back over an area I had hit with my bounty hunter and have found at least an additional 110 coins. The first hit I got with the teknetics I spent an hour on one spot and pulled 44 coins from 1926 to 1961. I love the pinpoint and volume features makes it much easier not having to dig big holes. I have also found fairly light artifacts at well over a foot deep and didn't even have the sensitivity over a 9. Ive only had about a month, and rarely write a review for anything but thought if someone was shopping for a detector Id give my opinion of what to buy and it would be this one. thanks. I have had this detector for awhile now and have found hundreds of coins and old store tokens along with numerous interesting old artifacts, still give rave reviews and am now purchasing another. oldest coins Ive found recently is 1906 and 07 pennies 1920 to 1944 various dimes and an old 10 cent store token with original town name before was relocated in 1908, have many more places to hit wish I had more time.

Great all around detector,,
Has many features on it that the high price machines have,, It is very lightweight to swing and has pretty good depth I would say 7 to 8 in on coins, Only takes one 9 volt battery which is very economical as well,,

Good Beginner!
I'm new to metal detecting so i figured I would try this out. It was a little confusing for me at the start (being new to me) but after some trial and error I was able to pick it up quick. It's very light weight so you can use it for awhile without any arm strain, it has low battery usage so they last for what seems like forever. I'm happy with it, now to go forth and find all that treasure!

Great Introduction To Metal Detecting And It DOES Work On The Beach
Great little metal detector, not the cheapest by any stretch but a very very good unit to break you in to the hobby. This was bought as a Christmas present for my daughter so she could come with me, I use a White's Beachhunter which cost more than twice the price. The White's takes a lot of getting used to but my daughter was able to use the Delta 4000 and out perfrom me in under an hour, this was on a salt water beach. I was gutted. Of course it takes a little getting used to before you can be 100% confident in what the unit is telling you but that is no different than any metal detector and to be fair this one is much easier to read than most. So what makes this so good? It has notching and discrimination which really help to cut out the junk, it also gives you a 0-99 number scale which is usally found on much more expensive units. If you're hunting a tourist beach then waving a gold ring, 50p and pound coin before you go will give you a solid indication of what numbers you are looking around to avoid digging most junk. Most metal detectors are set for US coins so being able to see what UK coins read as is a massive advantage. Depth wise this detector has no problems, when we were testing it found a quarter inch long piece of thin electrical wire 5-6 inches down, it had no problem fnding coins deeper than 6 inches. Again in wet sand. Downsides? As much as the preset ground balancing seems to work fine (you need to adjust the sensitivity to suit, I think this is where the reviewer on Amazon.com went wrong when he talked about salt water performance) it would be nice to be able to ground balance yourself. Basically this is adjusting the unit for the mineral content of the ground, this unit takes cares of it itself whilst most others require you to go through a simple balancing procedure. When moving from one type of ground to another, or starting again after laying it down the 4000 can go crazy for a few seconds but it does settle down quickly. The other thing is the pinpoint function. Unless you are working in a team with 1 person digging then it's not really worth having. By the time you've got up and down from digging to checking half a dozen times you'll really wish you bought a seperate pinpoint probe (http://amzn.to/1yqWtOt) Overall though a fantasic metal detector and I wouldn't hesitate in getting another one for myself, which is probably what I'll be doing for when we hit some fields later this month.

Nice bargain detector
This one is a replacement detector for my wife who’s really just a power and go detectorist. Not really interested in learning the finer points. Likes the walk. That’s ok. She has used a Garrett Ace 250 and now likes the Delta 4000 better. It’s definitely an upgrade. Easy to use out of the box. Time will tell so I’ll post an update in a few months.

Great product
Took it out for the first time. Found tons of neat stuff along the River. Probably better ones on the market but this one seems pretty good! We really enjoyed it and can’t wait to go out again tomorrow!!

Ottimo entry level
