Did it's job

First let me say I don't profess to know much about metal detecting. I bought this metal detector to find my wedding ring, which flew off my finger the other night while I was playing volleyball in the backyard with the kids (it was a chilly night and the ring was loose on my finger.) After an hour of searching, I figured it was worth it to buy an inexpensive metal detector in hopes of finding my ring. I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived on Friday (2 day shipping for $3.99 with prime.) I put the batteries in, read through the well-written booklet and did the tests it suggested. We had no problems finding the test objects (penny, quarter, nail) so I started "sweeping" the area where I thought it might be. I found it within 15 minutes. Granted, it wasn't buried in the ground or anything, but we did have several other "hits" that were definitely objects in the ground - strong signals but we just didn't take the time to dig since I knew my ring was buried in grass, not dirt. The kids can't wait for their turn now that the ring has been found. I think they will get some fun use out of it and they want to dig on our other "hits" from tonight. The pros for this item were the fast shipping, easy to use right out of the box (just had to insert 2 9V batteries), well-written instructions, and it is Made in the USA. It felt sturdy and well-made but it was short in length (it is a Jr. size, after all) - didn't matter for my use but an adult wanting to do some serious detecting would want a longer one. The length feels just right for my children (ages 11, 8 and 5) and it is not too heavy, either. It is very simplistic - two dials (one for power/sensitivity and one for target elimination - like for ruling out iron or other metals if you are getting too much junk in your detecting) and one needle gauge called the "Target Indicator". It made a buzz/beep sound that was easy to hear. One thing - I do not see nor did I read about where you can plug any earphones in - which is a feature other detectors have. If you have a specific need (like finding a lost ring!) or if your children want to try their hand at metal detecting, this seems like a great product.

I do not write product reviews that much as most of the time I don't have any thing special to say about them. However this Bounty Hunter metal detector is something I would recommend anyone to have in their home, because without it, I would have lost my wedding ring. The product cost was nearly $50 and I paid like $16 for express delivery. Let me tell the background of what I lost and how I lost it. It will give you an idea how useful this metal detector is. Yesterday we had a picnic organized by my workplace colleges. One of the events was to play volleyball. The Volleyball court was full of grass and the grass was think and about 4 inches high. I played few shots and suddenly realized that my wedding ring was gone. I never asked from my wife how much it cost to her, but I knew that it is an expensive ring made from Platinum,gold and 5 diamonds. Although we had about 20 people who spent reasonable amount of time to search in the ground for it, we failed to locate it. The grass was little bit wet too due to previous days rain.One of the friends suggested about the metal detector. I tried to buy it from several shops, but they did not have in house. I gave up the ring and came home. But I thought that I would buy a metal detector and make a last attempt. I searched amazon for a suitable product. Based on the description and price, I felt that this has to be simple and good enough. Even if it doesn't work, it will be only $50. If I find it , I will get my $3500 (and priceless sentimental value) ring back. I ordered it from amazon to be delivered from express delivery. The order was placed at around 7:30 PM yesterday and the product arrived at my door steps at around noon today. It gave me few hours before sun set to do the search. I noticed that the sky had overcast conditions which means that I am going to have a rain in the week end. Initially it gave me few false alarms for other metal objects like a coin which was hidden under grass. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to search in that area. Then I suddenly heard the beep. I wasn't sure, I moved grass back and forth and then saw my ring. It had been in the volleyball court in my office for nearly 24 hours. Without this metal detector, I wouldn't have located it. It was a great relief for me because I cannot buy back my lost wedding ring. Only that I have to find it. It was possible because amazon delivered the product on time and the product is an excellent product. I would strongly recommend everyone to buy this product. And you Amazon are Amazing!!!.

This is a good pad, but frankly

This is a good pad, but frankly, I do not see any difference in brands. The important thing is that a good rug should have a pad under it to keep from wearing as fast. And pads are necessary under smaller rugs to keep them from slipping. If you are looking at a review, I expect you might not know how to lay the pad and the rug, so I will tell you how I do it. I did it by myself, but it is much easier with two people. I bought this pad to put under a large oriental rug. First, I rolled out the rug and measured it to see the exact measurements. (You will need a steel tape measure.) Then I rolled the rug up into a good tight cylinder and put it aside. I laid the pad down on the floor exactly where I intended to put the rug, and smoothed it out, then cut the pad to fit the measurements of the rug. The pad wrinkled and folded over itself a lot, but this usually happens. It is frustrating, and takes a lot of patience, because as soon as you get one wrinkle out, another one pops up. But it is absolutely necessary to get the pad flat, or the rug will have a bump, and the bump will wear badly. After the pad was perfectly flat and perfectly positioned, I placed the rug (still neatly rolled in a cylinder) at the edge of the pad, matching the edge of the rug to the edge of the pad, and rolled it carefully over the pad. Then I trimmed one edge of the pad where it showed. It trims easily with scissors. Then I placed the furniture on the rug, making absolutely sure I did not drag the furniture over the rug. Dragging furniture over the rug makes it wear, and it may rip the rug, and it definitely makes the rug ripple. Good luck, and give yourself about an hour to do this with a big rug.

It's a proper metal detector!!!

Bought this motion detector for my 6 yr old to use on the beach (dry sand). Not been to the beach yet but I have done some tests and it works great. The handle would have been better if rubberised, but I have sorted that by putting some rubber grip on it from an old paint roller. It's lightweight so it's suitable for kids, the handle extends, so is suitable for adults too, will fit in a ruck sack. You will defintely find stuff on the beach with this detector, unlike some of the toy detectors out there. From the tests that I have done, you will find a coin at about 5" maximum, and that is pretty ok.

Didn't work very well on beach, expected it to be a lot better than it was. Burried coin ourselves only slightly in sand not deep and couldn't find it. Daughter bored very quickly

So very pleased. My 8 year old got for christmas and she loves it. It works perfectly and she has had a wonderful adventure in the woods so far. It is not meant for serious treks I would imagine, but just for a child who is starting to get interested. I would buy again.
