Flexible set
We purchased this for my two year old (yes, I know small parts) and held some of the parts back until he is older. The set allows the child to saw a board (velcro like play cutting food,) and use screws and nails to attach boards together. I love the many options this set presents. I think it will last him a long time. First he just played with putting the tools into the holes in the top and the other things underneath. Then he hammered nails and now he is learning to saw and screw things. When he is older, he'll be able to build specific things with it. He started using his hands and now is using tools. I also like that it is fairly small. We don't have space for a big tool bench and my son has a variety of interest, so I want him to have diverse toys. Like many of Melissa and Doug's newer products, the soft wood will dent and scratch. I was okay with this at the price point. Overall, I'd recommend it.

Fun!
Grandchild loves playing with this toy with her Papa! I'm not sure who is having more fun! Sturdy and good value

The holes aren't big enough to enjoy the tools.
I got this for my 3-year-old, but the holes are too small for her (or me) to hammer in the nails and screws, so it's not nearly as fun as it could be. I was so surprised figuring that Melissa and Doug products would be a win without me having to do a bunch of research. I'm quite disappointed with this purchase. I thought maybe the holes would relax over time, but that hasn't been the case at all. I also tried making the holes bigger, but even my largest drill bit doesn't work. I'm sure I can buy a larger drill bit, but come on, the toy should just work. Now I'm considering getting her a different brand. The one by Robud looks nice.

Great buy!
Love it. Bought it for Christmas because my 1yo loves to smash things! He loves it, still plays with it every day and no signs of wear and tear yet! It's been 4 months of constant play, and my 3yo daughter loves connecting the bolts and boards together to create and build things.. my son tries to saw everything from the kitchen table, to all his toys... He gets his tools out when Daddy or grandpa are working on something and he says they are his tools! When he wants to help, we say go get your tools and he brings them all over and gets to work.. so cute! Great buy! Definitely recommend.

Fun toy
My daughter loves it. Her cousins (8yo) played with it though and easily broke the saw handle. We still use it though. It is otherwise sturdy

Mediocre quality and incompatible with other M&D construction toys
I am a maker and constantly have tools and materials laying around. So it was natural for my son to take interest in my screwdrivers, hammers and wrenches. So - this workbench playset seemed perfect for us to work alongside each other! We've had success with other M&D products but this one does not meet the standards of their other products. First, the quality of the wood was pretty poor. Fuzzy plywood that needed sanding was a hassle but not dangerous. But then when using the saw on the velcro board it got stuck on a splinter and ripped a sizeable piece of veneer off of the saw! Glad it was me and not my son who found this. Back to the sanding station, then the paint station, then the finishing station to bring it back to smooth. The colored wood boards with holes are also a disappointment. They are some sort of particleboard and not the plywood that makes up the rest of this set. The color started chipping off almost immediately. The clamp and accompanying screw are too loose to actually clamp anything and Im sure the clamp threads have been stripped out by now (after 3 weeks of occasional use). It is an awkward shape and can basically only clamp the yellow block to the bench. I did notice that the screwdriver had received some sort of film finish and the handle color has held up better and it is noticeably smoother that the rest of the items in the set. Not sure why it didn't make sense to apply the same finish to the rest of the pieces. My second gripe is that none of the tools, bolts, nuts or colored board are compatible with other M&D construction toys. We bought the M&D Construction Set in a Box (https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Construction-Building-Developmental/dp/B00D3IMEUA) at the same time and I was shocked to find that the wrench is too wide for those bolt heads and that the threads on the bolts and nuts are incompatible with the threads on the bolts that come with this workbench set. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they would not make all of their construction sets to uniform dimensions. I unfortunately found this out only after I modeled and cut a bunch of different board pieces on my CNC so we could build bigger stuff. More maple for the scrap pile I guess. Suggestions to M&D: Make the top holes threaded. Make that thread diameter uniform throughout the board/bolt/nut toys you sell. Redimension the clamp so it can be used for something. Sand your plywood a little bit. Consider a film finish spray to minimize splinters and prevent color flaking. Use plywood or pine for your boards - not particleboard. I'd pay you a little more so I don't have to take one of your toys into my workshop and redo the whole thing before giving it to my son. I'd return both sets of M&D stuff but theyve been slobbered on and sanded and color chipped, so I guess maybe Ill just tear it down and make a copy out of material that will last. Does amazon sell a wooden dowel threader??

Not well designed
Cool concept but you can't even screw the screws into the box--you can only hammer a nail in the hole but even then, it feels like you're breaking the toy bc the nail doesn't fit very well. I was hoping to teach my kid how to screw/unscrew nails but you can only screw it into the nut (i.e. you have to hold on to the nut. My kid won't bother with that.). Same with using the wrench. None screw into the box w/o a nut. Not a very satisfying, well-designed toy. I can see potential in the building aspect of this toy but if you're buying this to familiarize your kid with tools, this could be better.

Expected better quality from this brand
Bought this for my 2 year old daughter. A pair of bolts broke off within a week. This toy would have been perfect had the bolts not broke. Melissa and Doug had been high quality toys all along and we have bought many times prior, this time is a let down in terms of build quality.

Within an hour of opening the package the top of the tool bench started to splinter. The wood is unfinished and has turned out to be a real safety hazard for my kids
