READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY IT:
This thermometer has to be calibrated, because it will probably come to you "way off". I followed the instruction on the YouTube video, "How to Calibrate an AcuRite Coil Thermometer", which shows to take the cover off and turn the pointer needle on the front--it worked for me. There is also a tiny screw on the back, but it was too hard for me to handle and use, so I did it according to the video. If you turn the pointer dial in the front, be gentle and don't break it. And, you have to turn it slowly--watch the video. Repeat: Turn the pointer slowly, up to a MAXIMUM of 2 or 3 turns, and release it SLOWLY. I need more time to see if it is going to be accurate. For what I wanted it for, how I am using it, and the small amount of money I paid for it, it is just fine. It is easy to install, or hang up, but the calibration is a bit of a pain. I like it and would buy it again, but I don't know how much to recommend it, if at all. UPDATE: I am using it in the indoor temperature controlled hallway in my seniors' apartment building, so the temperature does not vary out there very much. However, after I calibrated it a few times, and compared it to another thermometer I have that is accurate, this thermometer has been "spot on". But, the calibration actually does require patience and finesse (if calibration is needed). Just what I wanted--I like it.

Wish I had bought this sooner
Easy to read, easy to put up. The numbers are well designed, so reading the dial from a short distance is possible. It is pretty accurate, and definitely more accurate than two other thermometers I had put in place in the past.

Set it next to digital thermometer right out of the box to see if I needed to adjust it, and it was right on the money. Perfect right out of the box.

Very well made
It is very well made with clear numbers and easy to read. We use it by our pool and can read from 40 ft away no problem. I like that you can calibrate it yourself - just turn the mounting bracket on the back to right or left. When mounting it outside you need to be aware of location. Of course NOT in direct sun, but also you must have air circulation behind it. I had to mount mine on a seascape wall hanging to get it off the hot surface behind it - then it was pretty accurate.

Replaced a similar one. This is white and easier to read.
Thermometer hangs on a covered part of our front porch, and we can easily read the outside temps without ANY batteries or WIFI needed! I earlier rated this higher, BUT - now a change. I have a similar one by the same manufacturer made from metal. This one is made from plastic. The plastic one doesn't register the actual temperature change when outside and placed against the wall, like the metal one does. Seems like the plastic actually inhibits the changes, so if you plan to use it outside where the temperature changes a lot (Midwest), well, I told you so! Mr Zipp

Easy to read
It came in a box that had been previously opened, had scuffing on it's plastic face. Don't like getting opened product unless it was mentioned to be.

+/- 5 F Degree accuracy
This thermometer was not sufficiently accurate for my purposes. I wanted +/-1 degree F. This thing is more like +/-5 degrees. It can get a little stuck and not respond to small changes in temperature depending on orientation, ambient vibration. But the main reason I don't like it is that the calibration is not user-servicable. Some reviewers talked about calibrating it, I don't know what they're talking about. The only way to calibrate this thing is to physically deform the wind of the "mechanism". It's clearly not indended for any calibration by the user, and it comes inaccurate out of the box. If the +/- 5 degrees F is immaterial to you, and it may be, given that this is billed as an outdoor thermometer, you can use it. It's likely that air currents from the outdoors will provide sufficient vibration to prevent the wind of the "mechanism" from getting stuck. I don't know. I did test it at a range of temperatures, and it did respond, just not in the way I would prefer.
