More of a project than I expected
First off, one answered question stated the ball to be 5/8". It is not. More like 3/8". This was my 3rd attempt to fix my drain. First was a rod identical to this from HD. Ball too small so went back for a "universal" kit that had 3 balls. The large one fit but the stem going into the drain was too short. Had to rotate the plug to the back of the sink to engage with the rod. That didn't allow enough up/down range to drain the sink fast enough. Now to this rod. The ball is too small but since the price was so low, I decided to risk destroying it to swap the ball from the old corroded rod. Removing the ball required a vise and hammer. Installing the old ball also required a 10mm deep well socket to evenly hit the ball down onto the rod. I thought this would be a 2 minute fix but it turned into 4 days to "engineer" the solution.

Works, but no hardware included
This worked for me, but no hardware and the old spring clip that holds it to the clevis strap had holes that are too small for the diameter of the new shaft. Have to rig something up

Be aware...
Drain rod has a ball which is smaller than the one it replaced. I had to use the old ball that was alright to make successful use of the part. The rod was also about 3" too long for space, but easily rectified with a hacksaw. Overall, the part is great, just needs modification at times.

High quality
Our contractor installed short drain rods in our new house so the drain stops did not close all the way. These rods are longer and worked perfectly.

The quality is as good as usual, Kohler never disappointed us, the reason for 4 star is that it is way much longer than Moen. Don't have time to return it will just keep it in case we will have another Kohler in our bathroom.

Unfortunately, this Longer Rod was not Long Enough
Bought this K-1041840 Longer Rod to go with a Kohler center drain sink and a Kohler drain, as one needs a Longer Rod with center drain sinks - but even this piece came up about three inches short. Makes sense in hindsight as some cabinets might be Deeper than others, and a fixed size rod may not always work. Too late to return it, but in hindsight was better to have an extra part that wasn't needed than to lack a necessary part during the install. And... always important to NOT throw away old parts when Swapping Identical Sinks - might need something critical from the original install (like it's adjustable extension drain rod). Am only out $13.50, and considering what it costs to A) purchase a sink, B) purchase the proprietary drain, C) Hire a plumber, a mere $13.50 is just a bump in the road.

Did the job!
This item isn't rocket science. It's the rod that controls the drain stopper going up and down in the sink. My old one had rusted almost all the way through, and this was the perfect replacement. Fortunately, I had plenty of room and did not have to cut the rod, but if I had needed to cut it, that would have taken a minute or two. What is astounding to me (in the best possible way), is that Amazon can sell this item for $3.20 AND deliver it to me the next day (with Prime). Great product, great price, outstanding delivery speed. What's not to like?

Not the final answer.
The rod works fine but it does not come with the spring needed to keep it in place. Holes in the existing spring are too small for the rod to fit through. It should be sold with the spring.
