Don't go tent camping without a sleeve and loose shock cords
You can't fix a tent pole without a sleeve. If your poles are out of symmetry, your tent will leak. Why risk it? If your fly isn't tight because the shock cords are shot, your tent will leak. These are the shock cords that fit your tent. That wire thingy. I'm sure it does something. Why possibly run the risk not having an extra wire thingy? This kit, and a bottle of Kiwi Camp Dry spray, bring my 1984 REI half dome tent back to life every ten years. Yes, that is right, I am too cheap to replace a nearly forty year old tent because this stuff keeps it going. Well, that and nostalgia.

Useful little kit
This was very handy when the string on our tent poles came undone. It is a good kit to have on hand when you need it. I gave it 4 stars because the wire that came with it was very thin and actually broke while I was using it to re-string the tent poles. I was able to improvise with some tape and loops but the wire included could be of better quality.

Repair kit for one tent pole
Little disappointed that it was not long enough for both poles. Had to reorder to fix both poles

Adequate to use to fix tent pole
Pretty straightforward as far as what to do with this but it does not come with any directions. I was able to stretch the elastic string through the poles to fix a tent that previously had the elastic in the pole break. I did not need to use the guide wire and like I said, it's pretty obvious how to fix this. However the only thing I wish was more clear was how to tie off the end with the included washers. I just rigged it up using a couple washers on each end so the elastic can't slip back through the tent poles, but some instructions or best practices would have been nice. Overall though this is a inexpensive and effective way to fix a tent and would be good to pack on a camping trip to have just in case too.

Caveat emptor: misrepresented and mislabeled product
TL; DR: I did not receive the product as described and even the packaging I got was labeled wrong. See photo. The Amazon listing says 2 ferrules of different sizes, 8.5mm and 9.5mm. My poles are 9.5mm so I ordered the package based on this information. What I received was Coghlan No. 0194 but the package was labeled differently: "2 ferrules (9.5mm). That shouldn't have been a problem for my case, but people ordering this product for 8.5mm poles will be in for an unpleasant surprise. I tried fitting the ferrules onto my pole... too small! So I measured the inside diameter with a digital caliper (see pic) and they are neither 8.5mm nor 9.5mm, they are 9mm! In order to use the product I had to shave my fiberglass pole down with a box knife. After 10 minutes of whittling and gentle persuasion with a hammer, my pole is fixed. But not without some hassle. For the $4 price this wasn't a disaster, but I feel this was bait-and-switch on Coghlan's part. If they're going to change the product content they REALLY need to keep their listing updated. AND make sure the product matches the label.

Useful kit but check that it will fit your tent.
I've had a valuable life lesson here: just because it says it's a tent pole repair kit, don't presume it will repair your tent pole. Realistically, it's unreasonable for a generic kit like this to be capable of repairing any tent. The ferrules have an internal diameter of 8.2mm and an OD of 9.5mm. So it will only repair an 8mm diameter pole though it might fit inside a 12mm pole. (It neither fits inside nor outside the 10mm and 11mm alloy pole for the Vaude Space 2). The shock cord was amply long enough for its 3.95m poles using those valuable little washers supplied. I had no problem with the wire leader, which I found essential for the task.

Worked really well
Worked really well to repair a broken pole. It only took a few minutes to do and instructions were clear and easy to follow. Great value as we wouldn’t have been able to use the tent again otherwise.

A good set of parts to repair tent poles
A good set of parts to repair tent poles. This includes everything but the poles themselves, (approx 11 feet of elasticated shock cord, 2 1/2 feet of wire, 6 washers and 2 ferrules) This set does not include the tips which are requried on either end of some tent poles. The ferrules can be used as the ends for tents that have a pin to hold the poles No instructions are enclosed, so this will be difficult to use for your first attempt. The enclosed ferrules can be used to extend a pole set, or replace a lost / dented ferrule. Place the ferrule on one end of a pole segment, it can be left on 'loose' but is best knocked into place with a soft mallet To replace the elastic shock cord: 1)ensure the pole is clear of any mud etc (use the wire through the pole to poke out any obstructions) 2)Unless the cord is secure on its winder tie a washer to the end 3)you may be able to feed the cord through some poles on their own, but to make it easier pass the wire into the pole and twist the cord on the end of the wire 4)once a few pole segments have been threaded onto the cord it will need to be tensioned, pull it quite tight through most of the poles so far, wind it around a pole to maintain the tension. Temporarily tape it in place 5)When complete secure the cord with a washer on either end, before cutting the cord ensure their is sufficient cord to allow you to fold the poles and assemble the poles with a small amount of tension.

Great product , fiddly job .
It was just a little painful to use and understand, I would recommend using some gloves as I was picking fiberglass out of my hands for a week , not your fault, but a faulty pole section
