Super strong magnet

I work as a seamstress and was looking for a good pincushion. This one takes the cake! It is so much fun to sew and just flip the pins towards this purple square, and they all magically land pinhead out around the square!! Yeah, i know my life is boring, but we all need something to cheer us up. Only drawback is it's heavy and hard to just pick up and move without getting a handful of pins...maybe i should just order a second one for that other sewing table....

Really cool!

This thing is awesome! I do entomology pinning and this works so well. Also works fantastic for finding the stray pin I dropped on the floor. Highly recommend. Only complaint is that I received the wrong color, but I'm not taking any stars away because the product is amazing.

It is wonderful except

When I first saw this thing at a fabric store I was super impressed. So, I bought one. I loved it few a while and may love it again. However, the magnet is powerful and will magnetize your screwdriver, scissors, tweezers, seam ripper and any other ferromagnetic item it touches. Having pins clinging to any of these items is beyond annoying. I have ordered a demagnetizer for my tools and will see if that can salvage my relationship with the Zirkel. Perhaps and thin plate of steel on the bottom would make this thing behave. Otherwise, I will return to my try and true round magnetic pin holders.

Really, really strong magnet ...

I've rediscovered my love of sewing in recent years, so I got this as an extra pin cushion. The magnet in this is so strong it will basically clamp itself to my ironing board or any other suitable metallic surface. Once it latches on, it's hard to move. Fine, if that's what you want, but til now I didn't realize that what I want is another lightweight magnetic pin cushion much like my other one, that's not so heavy or prone to stick to other things. On the plus side, I got the one that's a bright vivid green for high visibility, and it is, indeed, easy to see. My other was the same color as my (red) sewing machine, and sometimes the pin cushion was hard to spot, LOL! I'm keeping this, because it does work as intended, but the super strength magnet caught me by surprise. Hope I don't set it down on something sensitive and damage something.

Stop waiting and just buy it already

You know you want one of these, the old and tired pin cushion is begging for retirement or at the very least it wants to change to part-time. So go ahead already. My wife wanted one for a while, we never got it for whatever reason, but now that we bought it she get's to find pins on the floor because our 8 year old plays with it (in all fairness, the old and tired pin cushion was played with too). However this is magnetic and has some heft and when you take all of the pins and drop them on it they stick in a ring around the top - hours of enjoyment! Plus it's a paper weight. It's purple and she's into that and it's not a weird funky pillow-fluff stuffed... um tomato? with... is that a strawberry on a stem connected??? What is that thing exactly?!? Do not buy her a giant brick magnet that is not square and purple-y! You will regret it! Buy the zirkel.

Happy To Finally Own A Zirkel

An unexpected 5 stars. I had never been all that interested in owning a Zirkel until I had a specific sewing need that I thought it might satisfy. So I am late to jump on the Zirkel train. Since I am always looking for free shipping because of where I live. I generally check Amazon first if no local Indie shop has what I want. In this instance I wanted the Lime green Zirkel, but could not justify it costing an extra nearly $6. The blue and black were significantly less so I chose the blue. When it arrived I was really happy to find that it is more of a happy turquoise than the tru-blue that shows on my screen. I quite like this little pin holder, and now that I have tried it I might just get another. I have used it close to my computerized sewing machine with no ill effects.....as claimed it seems fine to use near your machine. Being magnetic I would, however, use common sense and not snug it up right next to the motherboard of my machine, or right on top of my cell phone etc. When I need to sew with using a whole lotta pins removing them in from of the needle as I sew is easier using the Zirkel .. rather than having to remove the pins and stick back in my pincushion. Tossing them on the Zirkel just feels quicker. Is it better than any other, less expensive magnetic pincushion? I don't know because I never had he desire to buy any other brand. The pins do fan out as advertised...you just need to drop them pointed end down to get that effect...so I do seem to get fewer pin pricks now too. Necessary? No. Nice to have and use? A resounding yes!
