Good stuff
Most coco bark I get is great. Only once I got a block and had chuncks of coco bark not ground up like it normally is but worked great for the frogs.

handy if you don't live anywhere near a pet store
supposed to be used as terrarium substrate for reptiles but i got it for my orchids since the orchid soil wasn't drying and rotting their roots. this seems to be working well for them plus i like the wild natural look it adds. also is a nice accent to top off soil for indoor plants in addition to moss. one brick would be good for a quite a few orchid pots (i just tore off a portion to dampen and use since it does expand) or small tank, a large tank may need a couple

Keeps soil good and moist
This is 5 stars because the product is very useful, soft for reptiles if that’s what your using it for, keeps the ground moist and the air humidity level for the most part, and is overall a very functional and natural look in a terrarium. However I would 100% NOT recommend this for ball pythons, or any other snake for that matter because the first time I fed my snake in her new enclosure using this substrate, she missed her food and ended up choking on a piece of this- I had to use tweezers to get it out of her mouth which was probably extremely stressful and terrible that I had to remove her from her tank while eating. Great for reptiles that wouldn’t mistake this for food though!

Easy to use
It is much cheaper to buy them here in bulk than in stores which charge about twice as much. The first time I used this item, I ended up soaking it with too much water and the substrate became too moist for my tortoise. I found it easier to control the moisture of these items by actually trying to break apart the brick into pieces first. It isn't super hard to do so, but good to be careful because some pieces may be very sharp and painful when it is dry. After breaking the block into pieces, you can add water, and they will be just right. When the block is too moist, it will stick onto my tortoise and cause a huge mess, but after making it less moist, it was much better. This substrate makes it very easy to clean off any uneaten foods and poop that my tortoise left behind. I don't have to change it on a weekly basis either, so it is great. Will continue to buy this item in the future.

I have been using this product in my ball python terrarium for about 2 years. The compressed bricks are easy to store (great when I was in a small apartment!). I use two of them for my 4' x 1.5' terrarium. Very absorbent and nice to slow-release moisture and keep the humidity higher in dry climate. There can be a little excess water after soaking... I've taken to prepping the night before I plan to use and reducing the amount of water by ~1/3 - this has worked well for me. It has a nice sweet earthy smell. I also use the old stuff as ground cover in the yard or on the top of pots to prevent drying out. Just putting on top of the soil for a pot has doubled the time between watering. If you plan to use in the garden or to mix in with potting soil- keep in mind how absorbent it is and use sparingly - too much may lead to too much moisture and root rot.

It's just okay and not really good for hermit crabs
It took a long time of soaking to get this stuff to break apart and absorb the water. I used really hot water, but wish I used boiling water because I noticed mites in the food bowls shortly after adding it to my tank, which I never had before. Also these chunks of husk dry out fast and turn really hard. They mostly end up in the water bowls, so i'm constantly cleaning them out. Lastly, I bought them to hold in moisture as shown on the packaging. Hermit crabs need humidity and this coco husk substrate constantly dries up and I keep having to spray it down with water. I wasn't impressed with this product and it just made more work for me. At first, being something new, my crabs played with it a lot, but it seemed to get old with them fast. I wouldn't recommend this stuff. Find something softer that holds moisture better.

Not bad but could be better
I could not tell from the picture the amount of shreds vs actual chips, and after getting three packages it runs about half and half. This product does not expand as some of the bricks do, it took two for a good two inch layer in a 30 long tank for my rainbow boa and it would take three for a 55 gallon tank. This was after the product was soaked. It, like most coconut bedding products, seemed to hold and provide excellent humidity levels, and will be less ingested due to the greater size for most smaller snakes if fed on this substrate. I like this much better than the mealy compressed bricks that are sold for bedding, looks more like a jungle floor to me than just dark dirt like the compressed coconut fiber stuff does. I will buy this again since I cannot find any other bedding with the coconut small chunks similar to Reptibark, which does not absorb odor or moisture as well in my opinion.

Great coco husk, some thiccc pieces
I got this to make a dirt blend for my plants cuz miracle grow SUCKS! The brick of coco husk is far cheaper than the already ground up stuff, just superrrr chunky in comparison. If ur using it for plants, let it soak longer, then do ur best to make the pieces smaller :)

MOLD started gorwing righ away
I bought two bricks. Followed instructions to re-hydrate. Product had very heavy thick chunks in, more than I would have liked. Came back two days later to use the product and saw white and green fuzzy MOLD growing everywhere! Went to return the unused brick to discover NO return policy. Will not purchase again.

Not great
Won't ve buying this again. Large chunks of material, in an uneven mix. Whenever we purchase in store it's a finer husk, and more uniform. Doesn't retain moisture as well either. It'll do the job, but it's not what we were hoping for. Sorry Lagero!

Works alright so far
Too many big chunks. I was using it for a planting mix.. the bigger chunks might work for aquariums?
