Catan Expansion

My family really enjoys playing Catan. So finding an expansion adds a whole new dimension to the game. Keep it from becoming boring.

This is an expansion to an expansion. Make sure you buy bothCatan 5th Edition , andCatan: Seafarers Game Expansion 5th Edition before you buy product. My board pieces were all cut very nicely. I know other reviewers complained about the images being off centered on their tokens but mine had no problem (The rest of the review will explain game play for Catan: Seafarers Game Expansion) Great Game, Adds a new aspect to the game of Catan... It's simple enough for a new Catan player to understand and adds enough variation that a veteran Catan player should have enough new challenges to make the game interesting again. . I own the 4th edition of the Basic Settlers of Catan. This is 5th edition that features updated artwork and styles. I actually enjoy the 5th edition artwork over the 4th edition. If cost wasn’t a factor I’d update my original set to the 5th edition so everything matched. That being said all the 5th and 4th edition pieces are 100% compatible. The different art styles are distracting, and it takes a few extra seconds to process but does not hinder game play at all. My favorite update from the 4th edition to the 5th is a little silhouette symbol that indicates the differences between the expansion and the original. AKA it’s easy to sort the correct pieces into the correct boxes when game play is over. The 4th edition didn’t have this so I had to keep a list of how many tiles went in each box. (However you might want to use a fine tip pen to mark the bottom of the trade tokens so you know which set they belong too.

Buy a New Copy, not a Used one.

I had noticed upon ordering this extension that some have had issues with the coloring and matching of the components relative to the base game and Seafarers expansion. I however had no issues with that. The pieces and board look great together. The discoloration may be due to the fact that some have ordered used copyright of the extension. An issue you might encounter is given the fact that you require both the base game of Catan, the 5-6 player extension to the base game, the Seafarers expansion and this item be prepared to have an experience getting them all to fit in the two base game boxes. Although I wouldn't really consider that an issue. It can be quite expensive for all 4 of these purchases to be able to play a 5-6 player game of Seafarers however I will note that it is well worth the money. A 6 player game is a genuine experience and i recommended it to anyone.

Expands your horizons - good addition to Catan

Seafarers was our first expansion to the base game of Settlers of Catan (besides the original 5-6 player expansion). You need the original Settlers of Catan set and the original 5-6 player expansion in order to use this one. So that is somewhat disappointing. But once you get going, you realize the value. Catan is one of our favorite games to play with 5 or 6 players. The only drawback is the time to play scenarios does rise with 5-6 players. You may want to play the scenraio with 2-4 to make sure you really like it before investing in the 5-6 player expansion. Other interesting expansions exist, and we prefer the Traders and Barbarians expansion to the Seafarers (more variety and has variants as well as scenarios) We have the 5-6 player expansion for both of these sets (and the original) and would recommend them to anyone as fun games for 5-6 players. Our kids age ten and up grasp the game just fine and have grown in their strategy ability. Having more scenarios avaialable for 5-6 players keeps the game fun, and variants add a twist. Highly recommend this 5-6 player expansion for Seafarers.

Gift for another

Nice quality but the price of this game addition is outrageous! Not as much in this set as in the base game and yet the price is much more. Yikes!

Super fun for those who know Catan!

Love love love Catan!!! So we ordered the Seafarers edition and expansion pack. Directions on different board set ups are not always accurate. But once you realize it, it is not such a big deal. They used different pictures than our original Catan game so that is kind of confusing (ex bricks don't look like bricks!) so on the bigger boards-you have to remember there are two different pictures of ore, two different pictures of bricks,ect. I recommend watching the Utube video of how to play-easier than reading the directions! Super fun though if you are a Catan fan! Much easier to block someone who is about to win-two ways to block -the robber and ship robber! Many different board set ups too! Hint: Sheep are actually a good thing in this game! Lol so many more strategies to win involved in the Seafarer! Remember you have to have the original Catan, expansion Catan, & Seafarer edition if you are going to buy the Seafarer expansion pack! Expensive game but super fun for serious board game players! Gave four stars only because of the confusion of different pictures!

I had the original game but had more friends to play with , purchased and worked great ! Fast delivery and excellent quality !

If you really like seafarers it is worth it.

If you really enjoy seafarers and want to play with 5-6 people you should definitely buy this expansion. My family and friends all enjoy playing it together. That being said it is not very good value for the money. 30$ is pretty pricey for a few more pieces of cardboard and wooden ships. I would suggest waiting to get some sort of sale. Would have given it 5 stars if the price was right.
