Non standard wiring code

The cable and plug seem top notch. The junction box made wiring the trailer and troubleshooting problems much easier. No more need to undo electrical tape and trace issues or add other components. You can disconnect the suspected wire to see where the issue is with relative ease. I attached the junction box to the trailer frame with some self tapping screws and washers big enough to fit the holes. The holes provided were big enough to use 3/8" bolts if you want. Self tapping screws held it just fine though. I used crimp-on lugs for all wires that I connected to make the connections solid and easier to remove if needed. The most important connection is the ground. Make sure it's solid. I connected 3 different ground points to make sure. Now for the only gripe I have with this. WHY did they use a non-standard, weird color code? Hopkins did the same thing on another vehicle side connector I bought. I had to follow the little color code instruction sheet to find each wire. Would it be so hard to use standard colors? The only standard wire was the white one for ground. Once I figured out what was what and got it all connected, everything worked great.

Pretty nice product but 2 things stop it from getting a 5. First the freaken wire colors DO NOT match standard wiring as least on my 2012 F150! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…. Someone did mention it but without a multi meter would have been a real PITA to get wired correctly. Second is that it's a sealed plug end going into your power source (truck). That's good and bad in that it's watertight BUT if you have a wire problem you'd have to throw it away and buy another one. No way to get into the plug and fix it! Be sure and order the 6 ft length as the less expensive 4ft would present problems unless the junction box is mounted WAY forward on the tongue. I did catch I ordered the 4ft model but was able cancel and get the longer one! Over all having a nice sealed junction box is the BEST way to wire a trailer imo. You can mix and match wires inside it if something doesn't work properly. No making additional splices, etc! They could make it a lot better by giving users access to the wiring inside the plug end and using standard wiring code for trailers!

Match to replace Flagstaff Classic Aframe from factory

Upon getting a new tow vehicle with a need for a longer wire, this was found here. Same thing. Hubs pulled the old one off and exactly matched this in its place. Viola! Long enough for the new truck and long enough to be able to open the tailgate too. Actually a tad too long on a Ford Lariet with drop and slight extension hitch. But.. We just wrapped it around the jack post once and that fixed that. Who knows if one day that extra length will be needed for some other toy to pull. Conntek trailer harness

If you have a 7 pin / 7 7 way trailer harness this product is the way to go. I bought a trailer with a 7 pin setup but I never liked the setup or the quality of the harness. The other week I had an issue with the wiring and decided an upgrade was needed to the harness and the break-away kit. I installed this and while its a little job to setup and install, the quality and design of the product is great. I like the weather protection and the logical layout and ease of installation. If like me you have a trailer where the wire color codes meant nothing to the OEM...then its worth your time and effort to setup and install this product. Great product...I should have bought one of these day one when I bought my trailer. You generally see these on goosenecks and 5th wheels, but my dual axle metal deck trailer should have come with it....I was a novice when I first bought the trailer and have since added various improvements. Great choice for the front end half of your trailer wiring where 7pin / 7 way plug is needed.

Makes for a easy install

My trailer wiring splits to run down both sides, plus I have a break out for 12v power to charge the batteries. I could have done it with crimps, I even have the 2 to 1 reduction with epoxy heat shrink, but once you add in the cost of those plus plug end, this is actually cheaper. Not to mention cleaner, easier, and more maintainable. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars for three reasons. 1st, they really need to include a 2nd set of wire hold down clamp and screws. 2nd, the bottom entry doesn't have the posts to use the wire clamp. And 3rd, their needs to be at least a 1/4" more clearance between the final post at the end with the dual entry. It can get very tight there, depending on your wire count/size, and it's tough to keep the wires protected from that stud.

Great box for updatng trailer wiring

This was the perfect item for my trailer. I have a small trailer for camping that come with a 4 wire connection because it has no brakes or other accessories. I added a tongue box with battery and wanted to be able to use the Jeep I pull it with to charge the battery while driving. I picked up this setup, and simply used my existing 4 wire cable and ran it into the box, attaching the wires to the proper point. Then I added the power cable to my charger and I was all set. As other have mentioned, this comes setup with the older RV standard wiring, instead of J2868 standard wiring colors most people are used to on trailers. I took the included diagram that showed each wire and what color it was, then matched it up to my existing wires and was all set. This item was similar in price to buying the items separately, and it came pre wired, so I only had to do the one side of wiring.

Junction box makes repair / replacement easier

This trailer plug with junction box makes repair / replacement sooooooooo much easier than splicing and taping. And after reading the reviews here, I realized there might be more than one way (order) to connect the wires and the colors weren't necessarily correct. Concerned I might have to make the connections more than once before I found the right sequence, I crimped some lugs onto the old wire, This made hooking up a breeze! I was fortunate in that the colors were the same for my RV and I got it right the first time. Maybe it's somewhat different for a cargo trailer? The kit also comes with a strain relief clip and grommets to seal the junction box where the wire enters.

Plug wired up incorrectly!

Received on time. When it was installed the wiring on the plug end was incorrectly connected. Ended up having to cut the plug off (because the plug is a sealed unit and does not open) and install a new plug that I had to purchase. Everything else was fine..... but this was a major inconvenience. Sealed plastic injection plug made it impossible to rewire it.
