Good little radio - I'm very happy with it.

I'm total newbie and did a lot of research before I decided to buy this radio and I'm overall I'm very happy with it. Since there are already more than enough reviews here on Amazon about this model, so I will focus on the issues that I found less discussed: - Microphone Volume: It is true, the microphone volume is not impressive. However I according to what I read this is often the case with other waterproof radios as well. So it seems to be somewhat of a necessary evil for the water proofing function. Interestingly just like I read in someone's review, it was as if the microphone got better after opening the external microphone port and letting the pressure to equalize. MOST IMPORTANTLY you MUST talk CLOSELY and DIRECTLY into the speaker/microphone, meaning your nose should almost touch the mode button. If you are trying to talk like on a celphone, then the radio won't pick up your voice well and the others won't hear you loudly. - Range: If you research this subject you will find that most of the experts will agree: the manufacturers claim of 35 miles range is likely (if at all) only going to happen under ideal conditions from mountain top to mountain top. As for RANGE IN SUBURBAN CITY TESTING we got close to 1 MILE on the stronger (2 Watt) GMRS Channels (Channel 15-22) and about 1/3 MILE on the weaker (0.5 Watt) FRS Channels (Channel 8-14). It needs to be mentioned that it IS VERY important what channel you are using not only because of the differences in range, but also because currently the FCC actually requires you to get have a license for using the GMRS Channels. Having said that, while one GMRS license will cover you and your entire family, there is no license requirement for using the FRS Channels. You will find this information printed in the users manual of this radio as well (on page 21 under General Specifications and Licensing). -Compatibility: From what I read so far, FRS and GMRS Channel Frequencies are standard, which means you can talk to any other FRS/GMRS radio as long identical numerical channels are selected. - GMRS Repeater Capability: Those who are interested in using this feature will already know, this radio is not repeater capable. From what I read, as far as hand helds go, currently only a few Motorola phones and a phone from Olympia are repeater capable.

Ditch the batteries and the talkies are actually decent

Purchased in 2016, used only a handful of times 2016-2021; since late 2021 I daily use for projects. There has always been a clarity issue. The WKs come with 1000 mAh no-name batteries and since replacing them with a Nuon brand 2500 mAh batteries (increasing the total charge by 2.5x), it appears the deconstructive chatter is gone; clarity improved. I recommend anyone purchasing these WKs to replace the stock, no-name, rechargeable batteries with brand 2500 mAh or 2700 mAh batteries. There is also a sweet-spot such that when I speak either too close or too far to the microphone, the reception mangles. There is one spot in which colleagues hear me well somewhere in between. Strange.

great radio easy to use. Good voice transmission VOX and optional headset work good also.

My wife and i use these for kayaking, and they work great we both like voice qualitie. Already dropped one in the lake work just as expected, there waterproof. Here is the beef. The belt clip is the worst. It snags on everything the size of a shoe lace, but no way dose it stay on a belt or the way o like to cary it on my backpack the spring on the clip is soon. Weak. You can pick up your radio from the end of the clip and the weight of this lightweight radio that floats is enough to open the clip up. ItJust needs a stronger spring added, and that might fix that issue, and the battery door be patient its sealed tight even after recommended decompren. It takes a lot of steady pressure to get it to break that water proof seal. I still think that this is an awsome radio even if clip is a bit weak.

A little disappointed

I wanted floating walkie-talkies for kayaking, camping, etc... I thought these would be the best choice...well, the antenna cover slid right off which made it not waterproof and took away the floating ability. I used waterproof glue to fix it and it worked better than what the company uses. I then noticed the battery life will not last you all day. You could probably switch them out for another brands rechargeable batteries...the sound quality is as expected from a waterproof walkie-talkie. Overall, it could be alot better for the price. I'm not really impressed, especially with everything I had to do to with them. Maybe buy another brand.

They work for what they are

Having had some experience with these types of radios in the past I knew not to expect that much in the way of range. We've mostly used them on a long camping trip when I was out on the lake and wife back at camp or when I'm in another building or out in the woods on the property at home and for that they've been acceptable. The rewind is a nice feature because it can cut down on "what was that?" replies. I can be a little confusing because it plays back the whole buffer which is a certain time length of possibly different transmissions. Haven't tested but we like that these are waterproof and floating since they're used in a canoe sometimes. I also like the call function as it's better at getting my attention when I'm working with power tools vs just talking and the lock function is nice for handing to our 2 year old ;).

No recomiendo este vendedor y el producto

Pesima compra, al recibirlos funcionaron bien, pero al mes que se volvieron a utilizar ya no se lograron apagar, no había conexión entre ellos, para apagarlos se debía quitar la batería. Informe del problema y nunca recibí alguna notificación.

muuy corto alcance se queda muy imaginativo sus especificaciones de alcance, la bateria no dura mucho solo me falta probarlo si es aprueba de agua pero como todas las demas han quedado cortos seguramente no es a prueba de agua desepcion de producto
