ALMOST a Great Radio!
Did a LOT of research on this radio! Since it's for MOBILE use, it's display was paramount for me as I have a hard time seeing the displays if they are too small or the colors (or, lack of) were hard to see. IF you are NEW to HAM radio, don't buy this UNLESS you have a friend that can explain it all to you! THERE IS NO MANUAL!!! It comes with ONE sheet of paper that just tells you that this button is the squelch, this button is for DTMF, this one is for TOT, this is for edge-scanning (etc). It does NOT tell you HOW to make it 'work'....which, IMHO, is the reason for having a manual to begin with! DUH!?! SO, if you look hard enough, you can find a PDF that is more detailed, but STILL doesn't explain HOW to do what you want to do on many operations. That means that you have to do all your studying with a laptop. Ever want to read (or, do anything in the sun) your manual OUTSIDE when it's a beautiful day? I don't know about you, but I need to have to be in the SHADE to be able to ready ANYTHING on my laptop or phone. With a REAL MANUAL, you can take it ANYWHERE and read it. *** When you are concerned about 'saving a tree' by using a PDF format, just think about all the trees/coal/fossil fuels that it takes to run your phone and laptop as you plod through every function that's listed in that so-called "GREEN" PDF just to be able to read it. I've spent at least 24 hours (and counting) reading that cheesy manual in PDF form. Sure, I could have it printed, but since I'm not a big company, I can't afford to print a few thousand manuals just to get that big discount. My so-called manual would be as big as a magazine and printed on one side which would make it twice as thick. It STILL wouldn't have all the information in it simply because the PDF is missing many examples of HOW to do the various operations it's claiming it can do, to begin with. Seems to be a really well built radio, but you have to spend $40 for the programming cable and another $30 for the software. BTW, the RT Systems software is CRIPPLED. You have to buy another copy @$30 to use it on another radio....even if you bought the iCOM 2300H AGAIN (perhaps as a base radio for beginners or another car)!!! The 'CHIRP programming software' is FREE and works on most radios. I really find it hard to believe that they would sell a HAM radio that needs programming WITHOUT the programming cable, the software to program it with and NO *REAL* MANUAL! Lastly, the over the phone assistance I got WAS helpful....but, I'm on my 2nd call so far....simply because there is no real manual and the PDF is INCOMPLETE. ~ Mr. Q.A. ~

Nice 2 meter radio
1/11/2021 Well, I'm updating this review, but it's because this radio is great. I've literally had it turned on (with a few minor power outages) for over two years now, 24/7. Still working, still sounds great. Doesn't get hot, doesn't have any issues. I would strongly suggest this radio. KI7NZW 11/13/2018 First off, I am NOT an expert by any means; I am a complete novice, so please keep that in mind when reading my review. Unit looks durable, not sure though as I haven't used it in a vehicle or such as of yet. Sound quality seems good; I can hear people clearly I am using this in conjunction with a Comet GP-3 antenna (mounted on top of my house). I am able to hit local repeaters easily, and on the local net people say that I sound very clear. My experience is that it takes a while to learn all the functions and buttons on the microphone. Lastly, and quite possibly most importantly, I stress that this radio is only good for reception/transmission on the 2 meter band. For some reason, when I bought it, I thought that it would also RX/TX on 70 centimeter band. derp. It doesn't, and it's completely my fault for not doing more research. So I will probably eventually put this in my car or give it to a friend, and get at least a dual band radio. So far, so good. If things stop working, I'll update this review.

It works is about all I can say.
Sound quality is not the best. All the controls are on the mic, hard to use when you need them. It works. But there’s better stuff out there

Good basic 2m radio, but Chirp programming didn't work.
The radio is very solid, has a substantial heatsink for very effective passive cooling, and operation is very straightforward. However, I wanted to be able to program the radio with Chirp, since I'm using either a Mac or a Linux computer with it, and other options require Windows. Chirp appeared to program it, but when I would restart the radio, it would show an error, and lose the programming. This might have been a one-off problem with this particular unit, but I returned it and bought a different radio.

Perfect First Radio
Didn't actually buy this as my first radio, but it is the first one that I got any real use out of. Paired with a GP-3, I've been able to hit repeaters as far as 150 miles on a nearby mountain! Multi-colored screen is nice, I prefer green but amber and orange are easier on the eyes in low light. I would definitely suggest buying a programming cable for ease of setup, the one I've got is a cable with 6 adapters that works with all my radios. Only concern is the front volume and squelch knobs, they've got a little play in them side to side but otherwise they're securely mounted and work as intended. Radio scans fast and even has an S-meter, which I didn't expect at this price point. Overall, wonderful radio!

Buy it here if the warranty means nothing to you
I sent this radio in for repair last week after less than a month of ownership (wouldn't turn on). I just got a call from the iCom America tech and he said that my radio (sold by MARS Impex SIA via Amazon) was a South American radio and is not covered under warranty in the states. They did make a one time exception and repaired the radio free of charge, but they warned me about purchasing iCom products on Amazon and said they will not be able to repair this radio under warranty in the future. If the warranty is important to you I would purchase elsewhere. I'm giving it three stars because iCom did stand behind it even though they didn't have to.

Breaker, Breaker You're Coming in Clear!
Husband bought this, installed it in the house now it's all I hear. So sound quality is good, price seems to be fair from all the other radios Ive seen when my husband drags me out to look at radios. Not sure about durability yet, after I lose my mind from listening to "Roger, Roger" and beat it with my bat and let ya know if it still works. So yay!

ICOM is ICOM
This is the best reviewed base station by a premium maker world wide.. simple in operation and sturdy in nature.. My ICOM F3 bought in 1997 is still in robust condition and naturally I wish this one too would run into decades... This transceiver is Japan made but the accessories are Chinese... Though I have used the 'Y'& 'K' brand base stations... this is much superb simply
