Size in description WRONG across the board
Amazon product page says "Child" sizing is 55-57 cm. The helmet I received is 53-55 cm. Helmet looks and feels like good quality. But I can't use it because the sizing is off. Update: These helmets have serious sizing issues. First, I got the child version (5+), which Amazon stated would fit head sizes 55-57 cm. The one I got says 53-55 cm which didn't fit my daughter (54cm head). Ordered the "youth" version (8+), Amazon says 56-59.5 cm, the one I got says 55-57cm. Now, here's the real kicker - both the helmets, despite various sizing, are exactly the same size physically. THEY ARE IDENTICAL in shape and size. In fact, the 8+ version having an adjustable pad thing makes it less roomier than the 5+ version. They are VERY NICE helmets, but the sizing is all over the place.

Razor Child V-17 Helmet
Customer support at [...] was very helpful in sorting through which model of V-17 helmet is for children 5+ (small shell) and which is for children 8+ (medium shell). The children 5+ small one is the one reviewed here and was only available online at the time of this purchase. The model number is 97780. If you want the small one be sure it has this model number as opposed to 97778 which is the bigger one for 8+ years old. My son is almost 5 and still this helmet was pretty loose on him. It comes with two foam inserts, one is slightly thicker than the other. However, they are not meant to be used both at the same time. We have to use them both (safety pinned in) to make it snug. I wish this helmet came with inserts that were desinged to be added to the existing foam to make it tighter instead of designed to use one insert or the other. I later saw another 5+ helmet (may have been a Tony Hawk one) at Toys R Us that had much thicker foam padding and fit him tighter. Still he loves the helmet and it looks sharp on him. It is of high quality in my opinion. 1/8/2010 update. Helmet still great for my 6.5 yr old son. BTW, if looking for the satin pink version of this helmet, the model number is 97784 and if looking for the matte black version of this helmet, the model number is 97785. 97780 - Child's gloss black 97785 - Child's matte black 97784 - Child's satin pink

Great helmet will be around a few years.
We bought this product for our 6 yr old grandson who is just a tad small for his age and who has a fairly small head. With some adjustments, he barely made the lowest end of it fitting, and he will have much time to grow into it. Some additional padding comes with it if these adjustments don't work for you. I can't promise that the padding stays in place because we didn't have to try, but it looks reasonable and like that it might last a little while. That said, buying a helmet that requires too much adjustment isn't much good either, and it would be better to stick with a slightly smaller unit. Our grandson loves it. It is exactly as it looks like in the pictures with a satin sheen to it instead of high gloss. That means that any slight scratches that might happen as a child drops it on the pavement to run into the house won't show up easily and the helmet should look good for along time. I fully expect that short of leaving it somewhere, he should still have it in 5 years. Now if they'd make this in one size smaller and in pink, we would also impress our granddaughter with one as well.

Inflexible fitting and strap system
The helmet is very solid and well made. A little on the heavy side for the young ones I think. I really wanted to like this one with the sturdiness as the colour scheme but here are the problems: 1. The helmet is not adjustable. There is no adjustable dial or anything inside the helmet. The inside foam is very hard too and there is 0 give to the size of the head. So, unless your child's head fits exactly to the shape and the size of the helmet (which will be what, 1 season?), it will not provide the right protection. 2. The thin padding that sticks to the helmet does not follow the contour of the foam. So 1 side of the the padding sticks out of the helmet. 3. The thin padding can be removed I suppose give provide a little more space but that exposes the prickly side of the velcro on the hard foam side so it is not an option. The extra padding came with the helmet is simply a replacement for the front padding and no way to add to the existing unless you want to duct tape it or something to provide more comfort or make it tighter. 4. This is the biggest issue. The chin strap, though somewhat adjustable (only from 1 side, which is another issue) does not provide much room to make the helmet strap shorter without affecting the straps around the ears so I found the strap (adjustable side) dig into his ears if set the strap length appropriate. Sure the ear hole can be adjusted somewhat but not to a point to be customized or independent from the chin strap itself. 5. The strap material is not as soft as our old Uvex helmet. So, coupled with my point #4, my son does not want to wear this helmet. I bought this helmet strictly based on specs (size) to take it on an extended overseas stay for my son and my fault I suppose for not testing the helmet extensively before the trip. Truly disappointing as I have no option but to toss this and try to find a different helmet for him in this foreign land. He's sad because he likes the logo and the colour and disappointed that his head does not fit properly to the helmet. Our Unix helmet (more a bicycle helmet than this multi-purpose one) we did not bring had the exact same maximum size with this and we reckon another 0.5 inch of dial expansion left on that one.

Good for 8 year old
Seems to fit the head of my 8 year old fine, but seems like it might move a fair amount if it ever hit the ground. He rides slow, so I'm not too concerned for him, but just something to be aware of. I have a helmet with MIPS for myself, and fit seems more snug. I was hoping the fit would be be similar, but maybe I'm asking too much of a kids' helmet?

Well-constructed helmet that looks good too; sizing can be iffy.
I bought this for my 8yo daughter for use biking, skootering, rollerblading, etc... It is attractive and well-built; it feels very solid. The paint holds up well to the abuse of an 8yo. My only complaint, and hence the 4-stars, is that the size adjustment is poorly thought out. The size adjustment is comprised of two strips of padding, one slightly thicker than the other, that velcro to the inside of the helmet. In theory, you can use the thin one for larger heads, and the thick one for smaller heads. in reality, they are very thin, maybe 1/4" and 3/8", and don't make much difference in the sizing. In my daughter's case, even with the thick strip in place, the helmet was too loose. My solution was to use my own velcro to attach both strips together, and then have that velcro'd in place inside the helmet. It's far from perfect, but seems to work ok. YMMV. I bought a blue one for my son and since he has a bigger head, the sizing was not an issue.

Awesome color and depth to paint
Awesome helmet. My son loves it. However his head measurement is 21.5" and this helmet is a bit big even tho it says it is for 21.5-22.5" the included foam pads are both the same thickness so I can't even make it fit better. Mine had a scratch on the top of it when I took it out of the shipping box and I thought about exchanging it but after a little thought I think within the first few weeks of use it will probably have many more scratches and this one will blend right in. My sonis almost 3 years old but has a large head I think it will fit him well this summer. We got it for his new razor t3 scooter and it matches so well he is so proud of it.

He didnt find it as comfortable as his bike helmet as it drops on his ...
Fits my 7 yo sons head well. He didnt find it as comfortable as his bike helmet as it drops on his forehead lower (as its supposed to) after some coaxing, he wore it all day and enjoyed it. I kept reminding him we need to keep his forehead safe to keep his big boy, smart, brains inside. He uses this helmet when he rides his scooter, and I ride my longboard. The shape matches my Triple Eight helmet, and he seemed to accept that.

WAY smaller than described
Description says this is for heads that are 21.5-22.5 in but in fact, it's TINY. The label when it arrives says 20-21in so much smaller and did not fit my 6yr old. I would say it's more the size of 3-5yr old.

be aware of wrong sizing !
The one I have in my hands is for 20.87''-21.49''. The description says "Fits head sizes 21.5 to 22.5 inches; for ages 5 to 8; complies with CPSC standards". I am not opening the box and returning cause my kiddo's size is 21.5, will be very small.
