Great feel, but breaks

My favorite rod for crappie and whites. Can feel even the slightest bump of a winter crappie bite. Makes every fish feel big yet has all the strength you need to set a good hook (not whippy). I have broken 6 of them swinging fish in or getting hung up on a stump. Berkley does a nice job of replacing the rod either for free or for $10 depending on how old it is and who you talk to at customer service. For the money, it's a great rod w a solid warranty.

Great rod for the money, used with braid for jigging the Detroit river, good sensitivity with 3/4 and 1 oz jigs. Handles it well. Recent limit catch.

So far so good

I have had this for a month and used on a large beach fishing trip, and a small day trip in a jonboat. I prefer the two-piece robs for packability, since I don’t have a dedicated boat to keep them stored in. This is at least my third 12# rod in my garage, and has the most flexibility. It works great up to approximately a half oz lure. I paired with a Quantum Reliance Size 30, and they seem well matched. I put 12# berkley big game mono on it, finishing the package. Landed a 3-1/2# largemouth with it, and felt that it was a fair test.

Awesome quality rod

I gave my brother an ultralight rod for helping me out and knew he needed one. I chose between the Berkley and an Ugly Stik Elite UL. Hands down this is a much better rod. Casts further and has the correct action. Not too whippy like the Ugly Stik but plenty of action. Great for light jigs.

Excellent inexpensive rod

This is a lightweight rod that balances perfectly with a 2500 series reel, has plenty of backbone, and fishes like a one piece rod. My first time out, I caught 15 largemouth bass fishing plastic worms in thick weedy cover; this rod had no problem at all holding up to the fish - as I would expect - but to the extra pound or two of weeds that often came in with the fish. And to getting them out of the thick weedy cover they burrowed into once hooked. I was using 8# line and 4" or 5" worms, no weight, and this rod casts very well whether close or far. The rod is well finished, has 8 guides, comfortable rubberized cork handles, and a bit of exposed rod blank to improve sensitivity. The reel seat is well designed too; I don't like exposed threads on some rods that do their best to rub your hand raw by the end of the day. This one does not. My only quibble is that I wish they had put the hook keeper on the left side of the rod instead of the bottom. I wanted a quality medium power 2-piece spinning rod for road trip use that didn't cost a fortune, and this rod is perfect for that. I also bought a Shimano Stimula 6'6" 2-piece rod when I bought this Lightning Rod, and the Shimano will be going back for another LR.

Broken after second use!

I purchased a Berkley Lightning rod 1 month ago. I have had multiple of these exact rods in the past and really enjoyed them. This rod snapped aprox 10" down on the second use! I am hoping to be contacted to see how we can rectify this issue. Thank you .

8’ Ultra-Light. Good deal.

Caught about a dozen fish on it last weekend (July 2020) and it did quite well. You can really cast a smaller lure quite far. Very good sensitivity and lots of fun getting the fish into the boat. I also own a 5.5’ Lightning Rod 4-6lb and it’s a great rod as well.

Didn't make it through the first fishing trip

I have owned Berkley rods before and lived them. This one might have been a dud. But it arrived with the bottom of the cork handle pulling off. Then on my first trip out with the rid bass fishing I got snagged a stomp. I barely pulled on the rod and it snapped like a twig. I was not very happy with it at all. It is heading back for a full refund!

Love this rod, bought it as a backup light rod and now it's my primary. Lightweight and yet stiff. Casts great, feels good and responsive.
