Works fine for people who understand collimator bore sights
I read the negative reviews from people who claimed design flaws for this magnetic collimator bore sight tool and had to shake my head at their ignorance. This tool CAN have alignment problems if the firearm bore is not perpendicular to the plane defined by the barrel crown. That's your gun's problem. The tool CAN also show erroneous alignment if the face of the magnet is not perpendicular to the collimated beam axis. That's a manufacturing problem. The collimated beam does not need to fill the entrance aperture of the scope. In fact, the output aperture of the collimator is smaller than the objective of most of my rifle scopes. The rifle scope only needs to see a portion of the collimated beam to form an image of the grid pattern in the scope. You can move the bore sight tool vertically or horizontally in the scope field of view and the grid pattern does not move relative to your scope crosshair. If you rotate the bore sight tool on the crown, then you will see the grid rotate relative to your crosshair. Simply rotate the tool until your crosshair aligns parallel to the grid lines. The alignment is trivial and you don't have to be an Optical Engineer for the company that builds NASA instruments that provide your nightly satellite weather images (that's me) to make this tool work. I used 8 rifle/scope combinations to test the bore sight tool I [purchased. Each of these rifles have been previously sighted in at 50 or 100 yds by benchrest firing live ammo at targets. Each scope has variable magnification, so I increased magnification until the grid pattern filled the scope view. I also set the scope focus (when adjustable) to the infinity position to optimize grid pattern sharpness. The tool was rotated until the scope crosshairs ran parallel to the grid lines. In each of the 8 cases, the vertical center grid line overlapped the vertical crosshair. The horizontal center grid line varied vertically from the horizontal crosshair, but stayed within the lower half of the center circle on the grid. This variation could be attributed to ballistic variation among caliber and ammo. I have not yet test fired a rifle/scope combination not previously zeroed to verify the round will hit paper. I have confidence from the 8 examples I dry tested the tool will work as described.

Magnetic bore sight
This will only work if the front of the muzzle is metal, it will not work on plastic

Don’t expect bulls eyes just after use
As stated this is to get you on paper, don’t expect it to be your final adjustment. With a .22 at 40 yards you will be on paper, but fine tuning is expected and needed

ACCURATE AND REPEATABLE
I reverse checked this bore-sighter against two confirmed freshly sighted-in center fire bolt action rifles. Both rifles are sporting high to extra high rings with a 1" tube 44 and 50 MM objective lens variable power scopes that are sighted in at 100 yards for 3" high elevation impact and dead on for windage. This Bushnell boresighter indicated both rifles were within 6 minutes high [inches] of elevation zero at 100 yards and dead-on for windage so a wild and raw boresight would have put the crosshairs within 3 minutes [inches] of the rifle's confirmed impact. Magnet is plenty strong to secure this to both rifles in my "test". I am also able to use it on a .308 AR-10 with a HIGH riser and 44 MM variable power 1" tube scope. I just have to balance and attach the bottom of the boresighter on the top of the flash suppressor to raise the boresighter high enough to witness through the attached scope. You will need to use gentle movements to calibrate the scope also. Seems well made but made in China so longevity is still questionable and a one star deduct because of China's persistent lack of quality control across the board. If I can save a box or two of centerfire ammo, this boresighter will pay for itself.

and they work great. I bought this for trips to the range ...
I received my Bushnell magnetic boresighter today. After reading some of the negative reviews I was a little worried that this product would not work. I currently own an arbor type, and a laser type Boresighter, and they work great.I bought this for trips to the range where I frequently help other shooters sight in their rifles, and it sometimes cuts into my shooting time setting up the other type of bore sighters. This Boresighter worked great for me.I did five rifles at an average of 3 minutes each. For those having problems make sure you line up the top of the boresighter with the top of the scope reticle,a 2- 3 foot small level works great for this,or you can just eyeball it.Unlike other boresighters,You can also crank up your magnification, and really line it up to perfection.Remember guys a boresighter will get you on the paper not your zero. You still have to go to the range and shoot the rifle.I have got lucky a couple a few times and hit dead on the first shot, but that is very rare.If you have an extremely high mounted scope (ie.Some AR rifles) you may be better off with a laser to avoid maxing out you adjustments.I am totally satisfied with this product.

great boresighter
Great product. I have used different boresighters over the years from Laser to mechanical. This one is magnetic just level the firearm and boresighter in a gun vise. Align the recticle of boresighter with recticle in scope. Recheck for levelness of firearm and boresighter. Just make adjustment so cross hairs in scope align with crosshairs in boresighter. I like to sight in with starting at the 25 yd. method. Using a good size piece of cardboard with a paper target pasted in center. I shoot one round at 25 yds and I have been on cardboard every time. Then I sight in scope so it is hitting center of target at 25 yds., usually doesn't take any more from 3 to 5 shots if you are real good at sighting in scopes you can usually do it within 3 shots. Then I sight it in to hit 2 inches high at 25 yds. usually 2 more shots. I have found that 2 inches high at 25 yds. gives you anywhere dead on, from 150 to 200 yds. depending on firearm you are shooting.

Disappointed in bushnell quality
This works ...BUT..... the grid lines inside are not properly aligned/centred. Once you learn what is centre it works ok.

Works great
Tested on new scope. On paper with first shot. New zero logged for next time I switch between red dot and iron sights on my .44

Interesting gizmo you can easily live without.
This gizmo sticks magnetically to the muzzle of your rifle, the you line up your cross hairs with the grid in the image. It'll get you close to zero but you'll still have to fine tune using a paper target at your preferred range, so it's a little pointless.
