Good fabric for occasional use, large enough for two suitcases
Just used it for a long distance (350 miles) drive with the carrier full of luggage. I was driving at highway speeds- 70 MPH, more at times. No any rain to contend with, since it was a hot August day. So no idea about the waterproof qualities, though the fabric does have a coating on the inside to protect from rain. It held two suitcases very comfortably, but more could have been packed in it. I wish the straps were a bit more sturdy though. They look flimsy with eight clasps that are poor quality and feel like they might not hold up. The carrier when full is quite large and if it doesn't fit well within the bars of the roof rack, like in my situation, then the straps are all that's holding the carrier. I would like to see a little wider and heavier duty straps with stronger clasps that snap tightly. It performed fine but I took off one star for the straps.

Plenty of room
I bought this because I was moving from Boston, MA to Phoenix, AZ and driving myself and my 2 daughters. I was able to fill this thing to maximum capacity- and was able to fit a small padlock on the zipper to secure it shut. It rained and snowed on our trip and luckily, we had everything already wrapped up in plastic bags - this is not a waterproof cargo bag, but rather, water *resistant*. When we got to Phoenix, I noticed that the front part of the bag had frayed and a hole formed. I think this was more do to the straps that were hanging and hitting it than poor craftsmanship. I recommend this bag if you are doing a short trip, but not for long haul trips with a lot of highway driving. Good points: Was able to fill it really well, was very easy to install Not so good: straps really can't be secured down and end up flapping in the wind

It's sturdy, held a lot, and nice price.
The "water resistant" description is no joke-we put several suitcases in it (2 big duffel bags, one small, and one large suitcase), and it was just about full-we'd heard it would probably rain, so we put the items into large trash bags first. It was a 2 1/2 hour trip, and there were a few showers and one heavy downpour on the way. When we arrived, the trash bags were wet. So if you use it and you have a forecast of rain on the way, be proactive and protect the contents with something plastic. The carrier is tough, and although it took some maneuvering with the straps to get it fastened steadily on the roof rack, once it was on there it was quite secure. Definitely a thumbs up, considering the price and the capacity. Just don't get it if you think you'll be traveling in a lot of rainy weather and don't want to bother with additional protection for the contents.

Great Cargo Carrier for the price
I used it recently on a camping trip. Attached it to the top of my Hyundai Santa Fe which only has 2 lateral cross bars. At 15 cu. Ft. it can swallow up 3 camping chairs, 4 sleeping bags, and 2 queen size air mattresses. I ran high strength nylon rope between the 2 roof rails to create 2 more attachment points running between the rails. So it was attached to two rails front n back and wrapped around rope lines on the left n right sides. PROS: I stuffed it pretty full, almost to the breaking point and the zippers held and didn't break or pull apart. The 8 (2 on each side) tie downs really secure it to the car so it doesn't make any road noise or shift. On a downhill, got up to 82MPH and the thing held on without shifting or damage. This is about $10 cheaper than a comparable cargo carrier at Walmart which is only 13 cu ft. Works on 2 or 4 rail roof racks with the use of some extra ropes/cords. (not supplied) CONS: At full capacity, the tie downs seem a bit short, but just barely reach the roof rack. So make sure you slide the roof rails as close to the cargo carrier as possible. The tie-down net is a separate piece. Figuring out how to get it positioned on the cargo carrier, correctly, takes a little bit to figure out. Not bad, but it would be nice if it came assembled. Because it isn't rigid, it can be a little floppy and awkward to get into position. All-in-all this is a good product for the price and has definitely been wind tested at above typical Highway speeds (82MPH) I like the number of tiedowns, makes me feel like it won't come loose, even if I corner hard.

Used it this weekend for camping! So much room!
So now that we are going to be planning a lot more camping trips this year, we struggled with the blankets taking up SO much room in the large SUV we have. We have a Ford Explorer which is generous with back room but we couldn't fit everything in. Which brings us to this purchase. As you can see in the photos with my dog who likes to model, how big the actual bag is. We stuffed the bag with a tent, and about at least 5 blankets, thicker comforters, pillows and sleeping bags. Fit snug, zipped up well. It's a little tricky getting it on top with all of that in there, so it either takes two people after you have loaded it (which makes it easier to pack) or you can pack it while it is on top of your roof which is also doable. We have an extra strap attached in the picture because it was our first time using it and we don't have a front or back handle to hook onto, just the side ones so we were trying to be extra cautious. But we may purchase the front and back bars as I know it may make a little bit of a difference in secunity. We could also see that when we were driving, why it is mentioned to not have the zipper in the front because when we were on the highway the wind would have easily opened it up and blankets would be everywhere. We are pleased with this bag and it is good thick material and haven't tested it in rain yet but material does seem water resistant. For the price we would recommend

It's not very good, the straps that come with it fray really easy. We didn't even manage to get a road trip ib before the straps were fraying. The stitching on the bag itself seems pretty good. The only problem I have with it is that I noticed there is two small holes in the fabric on the bottom side. This probably happened when I was tightening it onto the roof. I suppose not the makers fault. but either way I don't think I'll be able to use it again. We only drove about 20 minutes down the road and it's already ripping! Overall I would not buy this product or recommend anybody buying it.
