Sturdy, well made, thick, waterproof material with good zippers.
Note 1: Also purchased the Amazon Basics Expandable Hitch Rack Cargo Carrier Bag, Black, 9.5 cu. ft. expandable to 11.5 cu. ft., 3M 3432 Red Micro Prismatic Sheeting Reflective Tape, 0.125" X 5yd (1 Roll), CURT 45770 Receiver Tube Adapter, and the MaxxHaul 70050 Heavy Duty 5/8"- Hitch Locking Receiver Pin With 2 Keys. I will cross-post this review with a review of those items. Note 2: This review is mine alone and was completed without reimbursement of any kind. Note 3: I live and work overseas. You cannot find US-spec hitch haulers in Germany or on Amazon.de. I used the Amazon Garage and looked at items that would fit my vehicle, however, those items were not available for shipping to an APO (Army Post Office) due to size, weight, or the vendor doesn’t ship to APO addresses. Therefore, I opted for shipment to my German address. The shipping cost was high but I needed this hitch hauler for long-distance trips with a vehicle full of people and little room left for luggage inside the vehicle. A cargo bag on the roof was a cheap option but it can be a mileage killer. Hitch haulers are much easier to load and don’t reduce mileage as much as a roof-top carrier. I purchased the CURT Cargo Basket (48-inch) for use with my US-spec 2015 Highlander LE AWD. I have a factory-installed hitch with a 2” receiver. This item comes with a plastic U-shaped receiver insert to convert the 1-1/4” shank on the Curt Cargo Basket to fit a 2” receiver. Some reviews for the cargo basket noted a wiggle or “play” when using the plastic insert. After test fitting this on my vehicle I can attest to those reviews being spot on. So, I ordered the CURT 45770 Receiver Tube Adapter and the MaxxHaul 70050 Heavy Duty 5/8"- Hitch Locking Receiver Pin With 2 Keys. After fitting the adapter and hitch locking pin first, then the 1-1/4” shank into the adapter, the fit is much more snug. It’s not perfect but there is less “play.” As you will see in the pictures, right out of the box without using the Curt Receiver Tube Adapter, there is about 4-1/2” of offset from the factory-installed receiver to the basket itself. This is enough room for my lift gate to operate with or without the Amazon Basics Bag in place. With the receiver adapter in place, and using the threaded 1/2" hitch pin, there is about 9” of offset and it seems to be just a little too much offset as if there’s not enough of the shank inserted into the receiver adapter (opinion). With the receiver adapter in place and the shank pushed in a little further, past the threaded hole, it feels more secure and there’s about 8” of offset. I’ll use a locking 1/2" hitch pin without threads in this configuration. I also purchased red micro reflective tape and placed that on the sides and back of the cargo basket for more reflectivity. The cargo basket comes with one support that has a small amount of red reflective tape and I didn’t think that was enough. Also, for European drivers, neither your license plate nor your tail lights can be obscured like it is with a bicycle rack. The combination of the cargo carrier and the cargo carrier bag, even when completely full, do not block either my license place or my tail lights. Separately, the Amazon Basic Cargo Carrier Bag is thick, waterproof, and has one zipper to expand the bag and a double zipper to open the bag. The double zippers open away from each other when opening the bag. They and are covered by an overhanging lip with Velcro (hook and pile tape) and the zipper has a waterproofing right up to where the teeth come together. If you’ve ever used a waterproof bag you understand what I mean. The top of the bag has 2” attachment straps with plastic friction adapters (with teeth) that are long enough to wrap around the cargo carrier and back thru the plastic adapters for a secure hold. In the attached pictures you’ll see that I put a medium size cooler and two carry-on size pieces of luggage into the bag with room to spare upward. Most of the width and length are fully used with these three items. Regarding the lock, it works as advertised. The keys turn to the right to unlock the locking head from the hitch pin body. The only drawback is the keyhole cover. The “O-ring” that holds it on to the hitch pin body is very close to the end of the locking head and easily comes off. Other designs put that design feature more towards the receiver side and not the keyhole side. Overall, I like the components I purchased. I have not road-tested anything at this time although I expect all the products to perform well. I may post a follow-up review in late autumn after I take a 650-mile, multi-nation Euro Trip this fall. The reflective red tape was easy to unroll, remove the paper backing from the adhesive, and apply to the cargo carrier’s upper and lower bars for more reflectivity. We’ll see how well it holds after a road trip in hot, cold, wet, and snowy weather. More to follow.

Got the job done
We like this product for the price. It is much cheaper than other soft car top carriers. The price does factor into the quality. The zippers get stuck sometimes, and my husband has to muscle with them. We made the mistake of (unknowingly) putting the bag backwards on our car. We traveled from North Carolina to New York in the rain for most of the drive. Everything in the bag was wet when we went to unload it. We haven't had as much of a water problem now that we make sure the bag is on the correct way. Some water does still get in. We have started putting all our stuff in garbage bags to protect our things from the water. For the price, this product works fine, and the slight inconvenience is worth the cost savings to us.

Great quality, ok design
The material the bag is made of seems really sturdy and high quality. I tested on 2 short 2 hour trips and there were no real signs of wear. The carry bag provided has ample room and is surprisingly good quality. It rained during the trip, but I did not leave the bag on the car. I think people misunderstand that the bag is only water proof in transit and when mostly full so water can not pool. If you allow water to pool on top of the bag, it will definitely leak into the seams, even if they are sealed. If you are stopping for any length of time during your trip and it is raining, be sure water can not pool on top of the bag, beneath it, and especially near the seams. I'm giving it 4 stars because it is not designed well for use without a cargo basket. If you only use rails, you are left with a set of straps that cannot be tied down in the correct direction. For example, if you have side rails, the front and back straps of the bag are not used an must be tied down in an ad hoc manner to prevent flapping. They can not be removed and pulling them across to the side rails will create tension on the strap attachment point in the wrong direction and eventually tear the bag. Other bags I have seen have solved this problem by allowing you to remove the straps that are not being used. Overall, I'd recommend, especially if you have a cargo basket.

does the job
We did drive through rain and snow, and our luggage was safe and dry. Too large suitcases fit in well. We could have stuffed more in, but we didn't need too. We covered about 3000 miles with it. Our mileage was only a little lower than normal (from 27-30 down to 24-26). It did take some trial and error to use, with loading and with road noise. Our roof racks run side to side, so we had some whistling and flapping, until we moved the suitcases around. The straps are a little difficult to tighten once locked down. But for the price, its a great tool that will do the job. Once you play with it, you will find how it works best for you to use.

Highly Recommended! Eight Months On My Car With Zero Leaks!
Highly Recommend! I left this bag on my car from October to June and everything inside was completely dry when I eventually opened it! I had all of my items in vacuum sealed bags and then placed in this bag so I wasn’t super concerned about leaks. I honestly kind of expected it to leak. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the bag after 8 months (and a Midwest winter), to find ZERO leaks and the interior of the bag bone dry. During that time I drove around 6500 miles. Naturally, make sure the zipper is zipped AND the flap that covers the zipper is down and velcroed. I did notice that after awhile that the straps of the bag did start the fray. It didn’t concern me because I did not use the straps to attached to my car. I have a cargo basket that I placed the bag in and then used ratchet straps and a bungee net to secure it to the basket. I would have given it 5 stars across the board if it wasn’t for the straps fraying and plastic clips not feeling super strong. Highly Recommend If You Have A Cargo Basket!

Great carrier at a great price
We used this to transport camping gear on our SUV with roof rails only. It looks sleek, appears well-made, kept our gear dry and even includes a nice case to store it in. The straps were strong and easy to adjust. This is a great bargain.

Awesome product
This is the most awesome product I have ever bought from Amazon. I put it on my SUV roof and did a road trip of 3000KMs. Traveled through all kinds of road and weather in plains as well as hills. Did not face a single issue/botheration with the luggage. Not a single grain of dust went inside the bag, my luggage looked as good as new when I got them out of the bag. Initially it took me 45 minutes to figure out the best way to place the luggage and get it safely loaded and secured. 2nd time onwards I started getting more efficient and finally it was taking us 15 mins to secure luggage and 5 mins to unload. The quality of materials used is top grade - very strong and robust. The zips are very strong and appear waterproof. The extra flap on the zips with Velcro fastening ensures no water slips through. The Nylon ties and buckles are also very strong and helps to secure the bag firmly on the roof carrier. Doesn't move a millimetre once buckled. I carried three heavy suitcases and couple of small duffel bags in it. Note: This bag cannot be used without roof rails/carrier - the straps need to pass around the rail and come back to the latch. Even if you manage to secure the bag in some innovative way, the danger of your car roof getting dented by the weight of the luggage is always there. So without roof rail or carrier you shouldn't use this bag.

Excellent product
Excellent product by Amazon. You can trust it for long journey of 500km or more. Just make sure to tie it tightly to roof or carrier.

Very well-made and very waterproof. Made of tough material, not flimsy at all. Surprisingly roomy.
Product arrived very quickly, but that usual for Amazon. The bag itself is surprisingly brilliant. Like other reviewers, I sort of expected something fairly flimsy and "short-term-solution"-ish. It's actually brilliantly well-made. The material is very tough and thick, it's more like tarpaulin material than "backpack" material. It zips around 3 sides and opens like a clam. It fitted perfectly into our Streetwize Universal Roof Tray (120cm x 97cm) like it was designed for it. (We got that tray from Toolstation if anyone is interested, stick it in google. They pair really really well). Now, the straps... The straps are actually great. Really strong, well-sewn and tough. The buckles are nice and strong too. In my opinion, they are easy to adjust, BUT the key thing I'd say is that the first time you use the bag, stretch them all out to get them roughly stretched to the right length for your car setup, because it's this part that takes a while to sort out. I'd suggest doing this the night / day before you travel. When travelling time arrives, you can then throw the bag on, then put all your stuff in it while on the roof, close it up and buckle it on without having to faff with all the straps at this point. Once the straps are all about the right length, they are VERY easy to adjust once buckled and because there are 8 straps (2 for each side), they allow for very flexible packing. Point the non-zipped side forward into prevailing weather and it will be watertight. The zip line is really well covered by the zip cowl, which velcros down really well. It's really quiet on the move too if you tighten the straps taugtly. The bag rolls up into something the size of a deflated, folded up air matress, and has its own little waterproof bag with a carry handle, which can then be tucked into a cupboard or behind a seat in the car if need be. An absolute bargain for the price. If you're thinking of getting one of these instead of a bulky roof box, definitely do it.

Useful bag on bike rack on back of T6
Great bag, large size, great value, well made, tie downs a bit fiddley but ok once played with them. I use the bag to strap onto a Thule towbar 4 bike rack on back of VW T6 camper to put chairs/awning/toilet/table etc into. Works a treat, and great for throwing all the wet/muddy stuff into after a festival rather than getting the van dirty
