Surprised
Did well. Could’ve been worse, could’ve been a bit better. For the price well worth getting several trips out of it

Made an 850 mile round trip!!!
We needed to find a method of getting more storage capacity in a short amount of time. The car is a 2021 Mazda CX-5 (no roof rails). Was looking at all sorts of products and came across the Rightline ACE 2 product. After reading the reviews here and looking at their website, I decided to take a chance even so some reviews discussed problems with moisture leaking through straps and durability. I followed the instructions as recommended by other users as well as the manufacturer. I did not over pack and made sure to keep the shape of the bag. I used a protective, non-skid cover between the bag and the car. We put 2 beach chairs, 3 boogie boards, beach toy games, 3 small duffle bags, a twin size aero bed, and 6 beach towels to kind of keep everything tight. I put my duffle bags and aero bed in garbage bags in the event it rained. Everything else I did not mind getting wet. THE ONLY THING I DID DIFFERENTLY was where I mounted the clips. The clips did not fit on the outside of the weather stripping. Therefore, I put the clips under the weather stripping against the frame. We had a little wind noise. Not terrible. We had noise from the strap. However, a quick adjustment to make sure the strap was flat made a difference. My experience on my travel days had no rain so I cannot say how it would perform in rainy weather, but I was pleased with the product. I can see the ACE 2 bag is not as durable as the “better” models. I did see other Rightline Gear bags that were better. My bag held up with no problem. The items we put in the bag were more outdoor items. Traveled from the NY area to Outer Banks, NC. Definitely feel a difference in the handling of the car as well as gas mileage due to drag. Overall, I was pleased with the product.

Did it's job well with 2,000 km of driving
Held up well with 2,000 km of driving at speeds up to 85 miles per hour. Just make sure you install it correctly. Though not sure why some customers experienced buckle attachment glue giving up. That should never happen and no matter how big a mistake I don't think those should ever come undone.

Just What I Needed
The carrier holds quite a bit of stuff, more than I thought it would. It worked great, stayed in place and everything stayed dry while driving in inclement weather. Highly recommended.

so it wasn't like the carrier didn't get a workout
Mounted this on top of a mini-van, with a pad, for a trip to Florida. Used two of the 12 foot master straps for additional strapping through the mounting rings, and criss crossed them under the straps that came with the top carrier. Tried to keep all straps in a crossing pattern front to back and tucked all extra material under the straps before pulling them finally snug. Wrapped loose strap ends around the straps and tucked them in under the tight straps. All of this led to a quiet ride, with minimal loss of mileage, I think. Only put clothes and articles that could withstand heat in the carrier, and made sure the zippers were closed at the back of the car. Contents arrived both directions dry and undamaged. Also made sure the zipper flaps were down before the final tightening of the straps. Rain storms along the way at times required pulling over due to no vision, so it wasn't like the carrier didn't get a workout. Product worked as advertised and gave us the extra room to go to the beach with our 5 people and a big dog. Negative: Loading was a chore, requiring long arms and small bags were easier to heft onto the roof, duffels of all sizes seemed to be the best kind of bags to put up there, and stuffing them with the largest towards the front seemed to make the best sense. Shorter people will need a ladder at the side of the car to load the carrier and to thread the straps through roof rack supports and tie down openings.

Cheap but does the job
I debated on buying this because of the mixed reviews. We drove over 12 hours and never had a single issue. It was rained on and everything stayed dry! If you’re looking for something quick and not too expensive get this!

Great buy!! Tips included on how to get the most from this carrier
I tied this bag down to my Kia Soul without a rack to drive 1,600 miles from Baltimore to Colorado and it literally saved me from having to spend hundreds of dollars to ship all of the things I otherwise wouldn't have been able to fit into my car. I don't have a single complaint about it! I fit 4 LARGE boxes of clothes/other random things into this bag, it is HUGE. I know there's a lot of mixed reviews on here about this item, but let me tell you how to avoid having a bad experience with this bag. Fill the bag up as much as possible! The heavier it is, the less it will slide and stick onto your car. The more shape you give the bag, the less noise it will make in the wind (barely made any noise for me) and the less likely it is to tear (mine didn't have a single tear afterwards). I used my comforter as the top layer so nothing sharp could poke through. We didn't buy the car clips so we slid the rope through the car clips holes to get a better grab at the bag. I would highly suggest that. Also, to prevent the bag from flying open, put the zipper opening towards the back side of the car so the wind cannot blow it open. Tie it as tight as possible and you should be all set to go! It'll be pretty heavy to throw up onto your car, so you'll need an extra hand or two. After I emptied the bag when I had reached my destination, the bag literally still looked brand new! I hope you have as much luck as I did with this carrier! Great buy!!!

Good quality, held up nicely under pouring rain and on the highway at 100km/h
Bought this for my family camping trip this year as the trunk space was not enough to fit all the camping gear. This was a more economical option to a hard top carrier as I would only use it a few times per year. Pro - good price compared to a hard top carrier - it folds well and comes in a small box. Good for storage and doesn't take up a lot of space - good quality and the material feel durable - used it in the rain. Was skeptical at first with its waterproof ability so I place a tarp inside the carrier and also put my sleeping bags/tents in plastic bags. However, it stand quick well against the rain as the inside was completely dry. The water didn't get in through the zippers either. - I used the straps that came with the carrier to tie it to the roof rack rail on my SUV. The straps were quite strong and had no problem holding the carrier down even driving at 100km/h on the highway. Con - nothing really. The zipper can get a bit tricky to close around the corner. I highly recommend this carrier. I did use it with a anti-slip layer under it to prevent it from sliding on by cars roof.

Watch out for rain
We use it and don't have rails on the roof of our vehicle. So we strap it to the door frame. At the beginning of our trip (several hours in), I was impressed. It held well to the car and it met my expectations. BUT, it started to rain. Water is not a friend to this product. Water followed the straps in to the car, and we could not stop it. It entered by all four doors. It dripped until the rain stopped. It was not pretty. Thats our experience. It works well if there is no rain.
