Great Value, good performer

This is the perfect light cool vest for having what you need. The open design is much cooler in hot weather, allows better freedom of movement with minimal interference. It lays closer to your body (not protruding out in front, I can see my feet. LOL) I was pleasantly surprised to find how much gear could be comfortably stored in this vest. I gave it 4 stars due to the lack of external straps / rings to hang your tools. I'm not a big fan of pin on zingers, having lost a few negotiating brush, rocks, etc. straps or rings allow you to use carabiners / snap-hooks. I also bought the Allen co. Boulder Creek chest pack, I couldn't make up my mind and as the price of both is less than some single vests I decided to compare both first hand. The chest pack held a huge amount of gear, but made me feel like I was on a Nasa space walk. It protruded so far in front I had difficulty maneuvering. Everything That was in the Boulder Creek Pack fit in the Gallatin. Both are constructed very well and have held up well (one summer of fishing; three days/ week or so). I hope this helps you. I think the Allen co. products are very well constructed, durable and reasonably well thought out.

Perfect!

Bought this for a salmon fishing trip in Pulaski NY. Held everything I needed and still had plenty of room for other fly boxes; pliers; etc. Great vest.

Amazing vest for flyfishing!

Hands down the best fly fishing vest for the money. I have tried a lot of sling packs that hurt your back... I have tried a lot of fly fishing vest with mesh get so hot. To the gentleman that said it hurts his neck I have not had any of that issue. I have a wider frame in wider neck it doesn't hurt at all. The stitching is perfect haven't had any problems. Love the fact that it has little loops above the pockets to add zingers. I have four zingers one for clippers one for floatant and one for pliers. The pockets are perfect size for tip it spools and anything you need for fly fishing. Honestly if I was rich I would buy this vest still. Absolutely no need to spend more money.

what you see is what you get

I wear this all the time just because I don't like carrying a purse but I like having a lot of pockets. I wish it came in other colors, though; I'd like to cover it in rainbow embroidery but I'm not sure if putting a million tiny holes in it would be a good idea. My friend was shocked that I got a whole package of wet wipes in the inside pocket. Could probably get a paperback book in there. The other pockets hold my phone, smokes, trash, could probably get an ashtray in there too. The two top pockets are tiny but are just the right size for a car fob or a small set of keys. I haven't tried to hook anything onto the back loop by the neck, but it looks useful. There's a lot of pockets. It's not the softest material, obviously, but it doesn't chafe too much, though it can rub the wrong way under a seatbelt or if you're unlucky enough to fall asleep wearing it it will leave marks.

Top notch fishing vest

This is one of the best purchases I've made for fishing ever! Before I was lugging around a massive heavy tackle box with all my stuff. That's fine for fishing somewhere stationary like a dock or pier, but it became a huge pain when salmon fishing along a river where I need to be very mobile and keep a close eye on my stuff. It looks great and fits well. It holds a surprising amount of stuff for its size without bulging or becoming bulky. The quality throughout is outstanding. No cheap Chinese knockoff here, like much of the stuff on Amazon these days. I strongly recommend getting some small plastic lure boxes to keep all your hooks and lures together and keep in the big front pockets. The perfect size is about 6-7 inches by 4-5 inches and an inch or less deep. I can fit two boxes in one pocket easily and it's a great way to keep all the small and sharp stuff organized and accessible. I'm one very happier fisherman since I got this! Highly recommended!

The big zip pockets are fine for water bottles

I'm giving it 5 Stars even though I didn't buy it for it's intended use (for fishing) but as a lightweight hiking vest. For hiking purpose initially I'd give it 4 stars as the neck piece is a little bulky and all of the weight in the from makes it 'hang' (i'll add a way to clip it to my belt or belt loop in the back and it'll fix that). The big zip pockets are fine for water bottles, but take up a lot of space. The front mesh is barely deep enough for a water bottle and I now put my iPhone or other easily accessible there. The upper pockets are nice size and I've stash a bunch of gear there, the best part is that with no back it is cool in the summer AND you can wear a pack with it (with a little strap deconfliction).

The design appears to be cooler than a mesh vest. However it is made of very heavy duty nylon and actually weighs more than many mesh vests. The padded neckpiece is a nice touch but is spoiled by stitching with rough edges which can be irritating. The zippers appear to work well. Many pockets, but aside from the main pouches are rather small and don't hold much, ends up putting more items in the main pockets which make for a bulky fitting. No loops to hold a rod. D ring on back for net is very thick plastic and you may have trouble clipping a ring on. Many adjustments will allow fitting just about anyone. Overall well made from very durable material. Excess weight and number of minor but irritating inconveniences detract from overall excellence.

This worked well for my needs. Holds enough fly paraphernalia for comfortable fishing. Not over-cumbersome. A good choice for the stream fisherman
