What it says on the tin, but not for me

This is sturdy, well made and does exactly what it says, but unfortunately calls for more hand strength than I have. Perhaps if the handles were longer there would be more leverage to exert more force, but as it is I ended up needing to apply the bit of cracked ice I managed to my poor weak hand. And since this cracks only one cube at a time, it's just not feasible for me. Other people very likely will have no issues. For me, I'd do much better to wrap several cubes in a tea towel and having a go with a meat tenderizer.

SINGLE, SMALL ICE CUBES ONLY!

[EDIT: After a couple of weeks of use, I can't recommend this product. As I stated in the original review, it is good for "1 SMALL ICE CUBE" only -- and let me emphasize the word small. I am not weak, but even I have a lot of trouble and find it almost impossible to crush a "normal-sized" ice cube. To really work nicely, the ice cubes MUST be small, so small that is is hardly worth crushing them. SO I CAN'T REALLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT AND PLAN ON DUMPING MINE (any offers) -- but am going to leave the product with my generous 3-star rating.] Three stars (it's OK) is a little generous, but two stars (I don't like it) is not fair. OK, I read a lot of the reviews and realized that I was getting a product that was only good for crushing ONE ICE CUBE. Well, guess what -- the ice cube had better not be a somewhat large/normal sized ice cube you get out of an normal ice tray -- because it will barely fit in the crusher and the handles are separated so far that it is almost impossible to get a good grip in order to squeeze and crush the ice cube (unless, of course, you are Andre the Giant, who is no longer with us). This is a single drink only ice crusher -- i.e. I got this just for me, for an occasional something-on-the-rocks drink. Forget about your wife using it (most wives) as it requires a lot of force -- but if you don't fill your ice tray to the top to get normal/somewhat large ice cubes, it will work OK. On the other hand, this is kind of defeating the whole purpose of the crusher -- I could have just filled my ice tray halfway up (or less) if I really wanted small ice for my drinks. So beware -- only use with single, rather small ice cubes -- and I think you will be OK. ron in round rock

Genius! Love it!

Wonderful little invention! I live alone and it’s too much trouble for me to get the blender to crush the ice for my one or two drinks. Also, if it’s late I don’t want to be making noises when breaking the ice cubes. This is a great little tool. I’m a small lady, so if I can crush an ice cube with this, anyone can, just give it a few second and the ice will break. - it does crush the ice one cube at a time. -if it feels too hard, give it a few second and the cube breaks. - it does come apart when you open more than 180 degrees, I don’t mind it. I can’t say enough. Love it. So happy with it! -Cheers!

It crushes!

I like how basic this mechanism is. I'm able to use it even though I'm of only average hand strength. Keep in mind it does not make very small bits of ice like used in a snow cone.

Good product... here are some helpful tips...

Love my new 'ice slicer'! You get everything from fine chips to large chunks that look like you sliced the ice cube. You get a bit of a work out (I have to use both hands) but I'm on the small side. Took a couple of times to find the best way to use this but here and there are no insturctions so here are some tips... 1- Keep it in the freezer. It melts rather than crushes when at room temp. By the 3rd cube it has chilled enough to work properly but easier to keep it with the ice 2- Lay the ice cube on it's side with the wide/top toward the hinge. I tried other ways and it sort of jams... you'LL see what I mean, 3- Keep it sideways over a container... it's sort of messy but you can contain some of the mess that way... I keep a dish rag handy for clean up after. 4- MIND YOUR THUMBS! I kept getting my thumb in the handle... only munched it once but now I make sure to keep them out of the way.

Hope you like pieces of paint in you’re ice cubes

Totally liked this product right away, takes a little muscle to use sometimes but it’s manual so not shocked. So great at first but the more times you use it the more the paint( or lead) starts mixing in with you’re cracked ice. I could also see if I used it everyday but I don’t, and it’s not worn out cause of a dishwasher, I don’t have one. If this costs $10 then I’d just buy a new one every time it’s starts breaking down.. but for over $20 not really worth it

Convenient for crushed ice immediately

This gadget is very convenient for those of us without an ice maker/crusher in our fridge. It's great for making crushed ice for 1 or two iced drinks.

Crushes ice cubes into chunks. Great for cold drinks or my own Ice Caps. Does not make fins crushed ice.

ALUMINUM, not steel!!

I bought this to replace an older one I had (same design, different manufacturer), that had broken; it was made of aluminum. This one is described as being made of steel: nope - this one is also cast ALUMINUM!! Works fine, but I hope it lasts. Item description should be corrected.

priceless tool for those who like crushed ice

I have a serious penchant for crushed ice. When our fridge's ice crusher function stopped working, my world went dark. I tried all kinds of ice, but nothing satisfied my crushed-ice need... until I found this little gadget. I use it several times a day... every day. I fill my glass with crushed ice and then add a little water / mio to fill. The best little tool I never knew existed! The ONLY gripe I have is that the coating is chipping off and sometimes those little paint chips end up in my drink if I'm not careful. But other than that? It's perfect. Heavy duty steel and will last forever. I'm just waiting until the coating all comes off and I don't have to worry about those chips any longer.
