Nice but one major design flaw - misleading listing Title
I just don't understand why Toaster Manufacturer are still using design specs from the early 1900s. So the name/description of this toaster is the "Breville BTA720XL Bit More 2-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel". I got the 2 slice version as you can tell. The misleading part is the "Bit More" and the part in the description that says "wider slots to meet the demands of larger artisanal bread, thick bagels and dense pastries". Well you gotta really be careful about interpreting what these types of descriptions mean, because this is talking specifically about the thickness of the bread and not the width of the slices. I cannot understand why manufactured can't just make 6" be the standard for the length of the slots. most rye and other artisan type breads will not fit in a 5 1/2" slot. I really love the toaster but it just irks me that I'm right back to having to toast my bread twice because the slices won't fit. I had a four slice toaster before and had to only toast 2 slices at a time, again because 4 slices of the bread I eat won't fit in the slot in the 4 slice toasted I had. I got this toaster thinking oh a bit more, someone of finally fixed the issue. I didn't open the toaster right away when I got it and it never occurred to me to check the size of the slots but a few months later, after I set it up and finally tried to toast some rye bread, I realized the length of the slots was still too small. What a PIA. I debated between giving it 3 stars or 4. I settled on 5 but this would have been an easy 5 stars for me had they just added that additional half inch to the slot.

Great features, some slight improvements would make this the best toaster on the market
Needed a replacement for my dual long slot toaster and needed something with extra width for bagels. This one had the right specs. Love the temp control, love the "bit more" feature, love being able to check the toastiness mid-cycle. But there are a couple of niggling things I found odd. One, with this toaster being extra wide, the platform that supports the toasting appears to have been made for a narrower slotted toaster. Meaning take care when putting in thin slices of bread so that they don't miss the small platform and get jammed down in there. Two, there are NO heating elements in the center of the toaster, so if you like toasting extra long boule style bread, the middle will NOT toast at all! The only solution is to cut everything to normal sized bread and then ensure that the bread is all the way to one end or the other. The toaster is fine if you only toast regular sized bread or are doing two bagels simultaneously. Works great in those situations. My current long-slot toaster has heating elements all the way, so this seems like a major failure on Breville's part to understand why people want and use long-slot toasters to start with! If those two niggling issues could be addressed, this would be pretty much a perfect toaster. For the price, I can forgive the flaws, so thus a 4 star rating.

FANTASTIC TOASTER! ~ Breville, 4-Slice, Bit More, BTA730XL
This review is about the Breville Bit More 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel, BTA730XL This is an excellent toaster and has room for the largest of Artisan Breads. I toasted 4 regular-size, Standard Market, white Sourdough bread slices. All four came out almost identical to each other! That seems to be very rare amongst toasters these days. Two slices of their Artisan Light Rye bread, came out perfectly even. It has plenty of headroom to toast it dark or even burn it if that is your thing. Expensive? Yes, but I think you will find it well worth your money. "The Bread Or Toast Makes The Sandwich!" ~ Dave

Doesn't work well for rye or sourdough bread
Works great for regular bread and bagels. Does not work well for sourdough or rye bread the slots are not long enough. It toasts fast and love the feature you can take a look before taking it out.

WOW A Toaster That Really Works!
Who would guess that it is SOOOOO difficult to make a reasonably decent toaster that works? That actually makes: 'toast'. When my clapped out, 10 y.o. toaster quit, I purchased a less expensive $35 toaster. Results were tragic (took forever, and half the slice was not toasted, while the other half was burned), so it was returned (Thank You Amazon for making returns so easy!). Next I went a little upscale and purchased a $65 toaster, figuring (Incorrectly) that if I spend more $$, I will get a better toaster. WRONG! Literally about a third of the heating elements did not glow orange, with predictably poor, uneven toasting results. So back it went also (Thanks again Amazon). I went back to research mode, and read a LOT (a really lot) of toaster reviews. These reviews were all over the map. Some people loved the model they reviewed, but mostly I saw a lot of toaster hate. Who knew this country was so divided... over toasters? I then read the Consumer Reports ratings for toasters. This Breville was rated #1 or #2, and yes it was (is) a $100 toaster. $100! I ordered it anyway, figuring my kids wouldn't miss the $100 from the estate, when I die... OR one of them will inherit a really nice toaster! I have to tell you, this toaster is the greatest toaster since sliced bread! All the heating elements glow orange, This sounds like a no-brainer, but I can tell you from experience there are a lot of 'toasters' on the market, which should not be allowed to be called toasters, simply because not all of their heating elements work. The toast and bagels are toasted evenly (no light spots or burned edges). It is FAST! I haven't timed it yet, but it toasts at least 2X faster than my old toaster. I like the Lift & Look lever, which allows you to peek at the toast without stopping. That same lever is also the high lift lever, which allows you to lift shorter bread products higher for easy removal. The long slots accept the long sourdough slices we like. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. The temp slider has a quality feel to it. Set it to '3' (mid range) and toast comes out golden! I know this model is called a 'Bit More, 4 slice Toaster', but I never use the bit more button. Once I have toasted bread or bagels a few times and figured out which temp setting works best, the toaster repeats every time. It is awesome! This Breville Toaster is also not racist or discriminatory. It toasted white, brown, or dark rye with equal enthusiasm, and speed. If everyone on both sides of the aisle would own a Breville, I am guessing we could end politically charged arguing. < Well, maybe that last statement is a bit of a stretch... AND, lastly, this toaster has a Breville Assist™ plug. This electrical plug has a hole in it for your finger, and it is ergonomically shaped, which makes plugging and unplugging a breeze. It is fun to plug this toaster in, and I sincerely hope that a lot more kitchen appliances get a Breville Assist™ plug! This toaster is highly recommended! I hope there is a Breville in every home in America. Think how much nicer this country would be! This is not a paid advertisement. The views expressed are the sole opinion, and experiences of the reviewer.

Expensive but it works well and looks to be of good quality
Pro... Closely spaced heating elements give an even tan, without burn lines Fits large slices LEDs Show countdown towards being finished Cons.... Longest time setting + "a little bit more" is only just enough for our heavy homemade bread. Expensive

Well balanced toaster
At the end of the day, the toast being toasted equally on all sides is what is key and this unit does that well. It's a bit larger in size than many 2 slice toasters so make sure you have the counter space, but works well.

A beautiful but inherently flawed design
Decide to splurge and buy this Breville BTA730XL toaster. I generally like Breville products and always find them to have classic lines and as such they are often easy to clean and maintain. This toaster is definitely easy to clean and looks amazing on the counter but, had I taken the time to really look at the functional design and read the manuals before buying it, I wouldn’t have ! its not a 4 slice toaster, it’s a big 2 slice toaster! When you toast, ALL burners are on! One toast or four toast, everything is heating! Also, there is no toasting element in the center of each slot (for maybe half an inch or 15mm) so large slices aren’t perfectly toasted either! And, I’m nitpicking here, but each slot too small for 2 slices of some of the wider sliced bread we have today, so really, it’s a “sometimes 4 slot but often 2 slot toaster”! All that being more of a personal preference, I might have decided to keep it if it had actually toasted properly but it would over-toast one side while almost not toasting the other so I returned it… Having read more and more toaster reviews after this minor disappointment, I am amazed how inconsistent most toasters are in the end… The percentage of 1 star reviews on well liked toasters seems higher than for other small appliances and most negative reviews appear to be related to uneven toasting… Doesn’t anybody know how to build a sturdy, consistent and efficient toaster in 2020? I ended up buying a CUISINART CPT-340 instead… Almost half the price and toasts quickly and evenly but not as nice looking! Still even the Cuisinart, at 80$ had weird design issues, like a bagel setting that it isn’t really a bagel setting, just an “extra toasting time” setting… I might end up digging out grampas stove top toaster at this rate!

Better than other toasters.
I resent how flimsy toasters are today. I’m always disappointed no matter how much or how little I pay. There are several features on this one that I like a lot and so far it’s standing up well, but I still find one side toasts better than the other. This really shouldn’t be a technological challenge but I haven’t found a toaster yet that does the job perfectly. In the meantime, this one’s pretty good. I love Breville appliances generally. I find they’re better than many other name brands.

Solid toaster with all the bells and whistles
The main wish I had for a toaster was to toast evenly. The rest would be nice to have, after having Proctor-Silex toaster that cost $12 for the past 8 years. So I tried a few name brands with fancy features but all burnt the toast unevenly. Still not sure why some toasters cost hundreds of dollars but decided to get this one for a 100. Worst come to worst I could just return it with Amazon Prime - no hassle. It came out to be a decent toaster. Pros - Keeps the outside cool (slightly warm after long toast) - Wide enough slots - Looks sleek and high end (which it is) - Have the bagel button - A bit more button - countdown led timer (the red light bar) - You can lift the lever to check the toast while toasting is in progress Cons - the price. - I wish the lever range could go a little higher to help get the toast out better - Slots are wide, but not too long. Still sufficient for a single toast. Bottom line - Even though this was a little high price to pay for a toaster and I outlined a few things could be even better, I decided it was worth every penny to what it had to offer and still deserve 5 statrs. The features it presents usually come in more expensive toasters. P.S - I paid full price
