A shadow of the Waring we once had
Bought this to replace the same toaster we'd had for so long we're not even sure how old it was. This is a shadow of that toaster- it's lighter in weight, doesn't feel as sturdy, and it doesn't work as well. We have to toast everything on 3 for a very long time. Worse- we bought this in July 2022 and now, in November 2022 the numbers are already rubbing off (4 is gone and so is 6). Don't know how that happened but it did (let's hope we keep 3). I can't say to stay away from this because new users might be pleased but we've been disappointed.

Hums While it Works, But It Works Well
Like other reviewers here, I had the Cuisinart doppelgänger toaster for many years before it finally gave out. I was happy with it and wanted to get the same toaster, only to find that it now carries the Waring name on it, and also lacks the slot selection switch (which I kind of hated anyway, because you'd always forget to switch it back if you ever used it). The first toaster I bought to replace my old Cuisinart was the Breville BTA830XL Die-Cast 4-Slice Long Slot Smart Toaster. I did tons of research and read a lot of reviews and recommendations and took a chance on the leverless toaster. I was apprehensive of all the fanciness, but so many folks loved the thing, that I thought it just might work out. It failed. I ended up returning it after it stopped working and started flashing all the lights, Customer Service couldn't help me, and everyone who gave it a bad review had the same exact problem with only one resolution - return it. So I returned it for a refund. This Waring toaster, however, is still going strong after just over two months' of near daily use. It works just as well as my old Cuisinart. There's just one thing: it hums while it's working. When I depress the lever, I get to hear a distinct humming that continues until the toast pops up. It wasn't a deal breaker after my last purchase, so I decided to just live with the noise. The reason I returned to this design is the fact that I can toast slices of any shape of bread, including those round Italian loaves, Ciabatta, homemade breads. or what have you. The slots are generous for width as well, so fat bagels are not a problem. I like the fact that you can lift the lever up a bit, once the toasting is complete, to be able to grab a smaller slice out without having to resort to using tools. For English muffins, for example, with that skinny, smaller side of the muffin, I might even lift the lever in a quick motion to throw the bread up a bit, just to I can catch it mid-air. It's really a fun skill to master. :) I want to say that the dial for selecting darkness is more sensitive on this toaster than on my Cuisinart, as I am keeping it near 2 for most commercial bread slices these days, but again, that's not a deal breaker for me. Crumb tray slides right out if you want to clean. The cord wraps around underneath the unit and hooks into the perimeter, if your toaster is too close to the outlet, like mine. It will take a little time to get it right, but you'll never have to do it again if you do it right. The chrome finish is nice, too. You can even use it as a very basic mirror if you need sneak a quick peek to check for food on your face or something like that. It's an expensive toaster, but if it lasts as many, long years as my old Cuisinart did, I'm happy to pay for it to get a good, reliable toaster.

Where it was made
I did the research. Tried to find a toaster made in the USA. Thought this was it. Got it and on the box says MADE IN CHINA.

Good toaster
We had an old toaster-oven that finally bit the dust. We replaced with an air fryer that was supposed to do toast, among many other things. Trouble is, we mostly only want to use it for toast, and using it was complicated. We then bought a toaster, but quickly realized that it was too small to handle the bread sizes we frequently buy, as well as thick things like bagels. We finally found the Waring, and we've finally found our solution. It toasts perfectly, no matter what type of bread we're toasting. Highly recommended.

Just About Adequate
We've been on a toaster roller coaster for months -- tried various toasters (high-priced and low), being disappointed and returning them time after time. Recently we decided to try this "commercial" toaster before we give up on automatic toasters completely and just go with a toaster oven of some kind. The main features we look for are wide & long slice capacity and even browning for a variety of toast items (breads, bagels, etc.). We paid something $145 for this Waring, which seems like an astronomical price for a simple toaster. The toaster is nice-enough looking, but not beautiful. It's pretty old school looking and feels very cheap -- thin metal, lightweight, tinny sounding. Certainly not what I'd expect of a "commercial" grade device. It toasts a little bit better than the others we've tried in the past year, but it still doesn't do a great job on our homemade artisan style breads. Haven't tried it yet on bagels or other items. We're giving this toaster a chance, but we haven't had it long, so we don't know how it will perform in the long run. Frankly, if you're looking for real quality, I'd recommend these days looking beyond automated, pop-up style toasters and looking more at genuine commercial manual toasting devices -- the kind you actually find in restaurants and cafes. Not nearly as convenient, not stylish, but maybe more likely to make better toast for longer. Overall, we'd place this particular toaster in a mid-range category for quality, performance, and value.

Poor quality for price
Bought this for replacement of a 25 year old cusinert toaster. Not the quality by any means and way way over priced.
