It works... kind of
I use it in the garage and it's not really a critical applicaiton. Which is good because it reads a couple of degrees high, and you have to tap it a couple of times to get the needle to settle at the current temperature. Looks OK, but kinda cheapie!

The "o" ring that was included was left out of instruction as to where to install....?
Used in other parts of the office.

Give It Time
Regarding quality: Some reviews say that the clock is plastic and that the face is cardboard - I can tell you neither are the case with the one I received. The lens is glass and the housing metal (aluminum perhaps). The painted face with the numbers is also a thin sheet of some type of metal. The construction - while not ultra luxe is, for the price, fair and the overall look is nice. Regarding accuracy: I was, at first, disappointed with the "off-ness" of the temperature but note that it seems to be *very* sensitive to handling (as in residual heat retention in or on the thermometer itself). After mounting it (I routed it into a burl for a project) and letting the entire piece acclimate to the room), the temperature is spot-on. Temperature changes take anywhere from 10-30 minutes to be reflected accurately but frankly if you need something more precise (and/or faster) than that - I would question purchasing a $20 thermometer.

Taylor Precision Products Heritage Metal Dial Thermometer (4.25-Inch)
Accurate, validated against two mercury filled secondary reference, calibrated from 0C to 50C and 0 to 70C respectively (0.5C accuracy); and also digital reference accurate to 0.02C. No deviation when measuring between 10F degrees and 66F ambient temperature (-12.2C to 18.9C). Thermometers were placed outdoors, under a north facing covered porch, no direct sunlight, eastern US. Measurements taken over five days. Thus far, as new, this thermometer is surprisingly accurate. In good light the dial is fairly easy to read at 3 meters or 10 feet distance, but not much further; your mileage may vary depending on visual acuity. It is slow to respond to rapid temperature changes. Moving back and forth between indoor room temperature (around 72F to 74F) and outdoors 66F, 54F, and 40F required several minutes before registering the correct temperature. I don't expect reaching equilibrium for at least an hour after moving it. The thermometer was so slow when I first moved it outdoors that I thought it was broken. During a recent storm, where the temperatures decreased gradually from around 50F to 10F, the thermometer remained accurate and kept pace with the decrease in ambient temperature. The barrel and pivot pin hinge mount is very loose, with about 2 mm space between the barrel and the pin. The mount is basically a Z shaped aluminum arm that fits two barrels on both the bracket and the back of the thermometer housing, with each arm end acting as a pivot pin. The thermometer moves freely on both pivots; with the slightest wind it behaves like a weather vane. A strong gust would slam it into the mount point, or if mounted on a window frame or door frame then it would hit the window or door. Vinyl electrical tape wrapped around the pins provides an easy fix and more friction. One of the pins came with a vinyl cap, which may be used for the same purpose. Only one pin was capped with the merchandise I received (the package was also opened). A set screw or cotter pin that fastens the mount arm position would be nice. The manufacturer decided on something more economical. Several years ago, another company manufactured this style of outdoor dial thermometer. I recall it was a German company. Their merchandise was brass, heavier and more substantial. Their mounts included set screws and the pin fit was snug and exact. That thermometer responded more quickly to temperature fluctuation, about as fast as a kitchen candy thermometer or meat thermometer. It was more expensive but well worth the retail price. This is not the same thermometer. Overall, its not bad for 15 dollars; not sure how long it will last.

Mounting bracket installation
Firstly, the instructions were horrible. I threw them away and went with instinct. I mounted the bracket with the two screws on the window. The unit came with two small O rings or rubber washers. No instructions on how to use. One end of the bracket had a plastic head and I fit that end into the bracket on the window. The other bracket on the thermometer was a very loose fit so I inserted the two rubber O rings into the bracket holes so when I pushed in the Z bar it had a tighter fit. We shall see how this holds up but it seems stable for the time being. It would have been nice to have had some instructions on how to use the two O rings. I have an older Taylor wireless electronic thermometer and it read 88 degrees. The new thermometer I just installed read 90 degrees, so that is pretty close. I'm hopeful this will work out but it's seems flimsy so only time will tell if it will hold up to wind and winter weather. I give it a 3 just because it seems to work. I give it a 0 for instructions.

Disappointed
Disappointed! Really liked the look of this product. Could see it clearly from far away. The accuracy went down the tubes after only one month.

This is a beautiful thermometer to display outside the house
This is a beautiful thermometer to display outside the house. We searched a while for an outdoor thermometer that was actually attractive and accurate. We bought one from a local store, but it turned out to be quite cheap and so we return that one. We found this one on Amazon with good reviews and gave it a shot, also the price is very reasonable. The thermometer came nice packaged, and easy to install in front of my kitchen window. It looks very nice, I love the antique look of it. The metal is a lighter material - not as heavy as I expected. I probably would've liked it a little bit heavier, but it may have a purpose for being lighter or maybe it's just because it was inexpensive. It does swing a little in strong winds which is not ideal. Overall, for the price, I'm happy with he purchase, it works well and matches my style.

Looks nice, works.
Nice to look out of the kitchen window and see the temperature. Not suitable for laboratory work but very happy with it.
