Quality product that makes delicious coffee
I have wanted a Moccamaster for ten years. However, the price and the size put me off until recently. I’ve gone through 3 Bonavita coffee makers in the past 9 years. Bonavita coffee makers work great until they don’t and the warranty and customer service are terrible. I was ready to try something new, something that would last. So I decided to finally get a Moccamaster after finding out they have a smaller model, the KBTS. It’s about the same size as the Bonavita but is a quality build and has a 5-year warranty. The Moccamasters are handmade in the Netherlands. They are meant to be the coffee maker you keep for a lifetime. If it breaks after the warranty, you can send it in for repairs to their US location in Portland, Oregon, for $59. They sell all of the parts on their website. I love a company that stands behind its products and repairs them instead of sending them to a landfill. So how does it brew? It makes delicious coffee. However, this coffee maker may not be for everyone. If you love great coffee and are willing to spend a bit of time dialing it in, you will love it. Think of it like an automatic pour-over. The Moccamaster coffee makers are known for being able to get the water hot enough (196-205ºF) to properly brew coffee. They are SCA certified meaning they meet stringent qualifications based on proper water temperature, brewing time, and ability to brew within the SCA Golden Cup recommendations. The Moccamaster works best with a medium-coarse grind, something similar to what you would use with a Chemex. If you have a burr grinder, you may need to adjust your settings. If you get your coffee ground for you, ask for a pour-over grind instead of one for drip coffee. If you buy pre-ground coffee, it will likely not work as well. If you are spending the money on this fine appliance, it’s worth getting good coffee beans and a burr grinder. The first pot we brewed was a little weak. We like a stronger ratio than what is recommended. They recommend 1:16, we like 1:15. The second pot was a little bitter. We were still using the grind setting for the Bonavita which was finer. We have a Baratza Encore coffee grinder, so we set it to 19 instead of 17. When we made it slightly more coarse, it was perfect! You may have to play with this a few times until you get exactly what you want. (By the way, the Baratza grinders are also well made and meant to be repaired instead of thrown out. Another quality company!) The stainless steel carafe has a pour-through lid. This helps the coffee stay hot but allows you to pour the coffee without removing the lid. It also comes with a second travel lid that you can use if you want it to stay hot past one hour or are taking it with you. Even though the carafe does not have a specific pour spout, that hasn’t been an issue. It pours evenly without a drop spilled. The opening to the carafe is small, so you will need a bottle brush to properly clean it. None of the pieces are dishwasher safe, so you will need to hand wash everything. As I mentioned, this is not for everyone. However, if you are a coffee enthusiast who wants something straightforward and well-made, the Moccamaster may be your next and best purchase. I am glad that there are companies out there still making quality products that they stand behind. It’s rare. You get what you pay for. There’s a great video on YouTube showing a tour of the factory. If you want to see how they’re made and by whom, you’ll see why they are worth the price. I figure I’ve spent almost $600 on 3 different Bonavita coffee makers that break after a few years or a few weeks, like my last one. Spending $300 on something that will last and is repairable is a bargain.

Half flimsey plastic half decent, update, I hate that I love it.
How is this thing 340 dollars? Half of it is worth the price, but then the entire top half is flimsy plastic that doesn't hold together. Everything is literally placed on top of each other in some sort of jenga-esk style configuration that will fall over like said game at the slightest brush of your hand. Seriously, this thing is only okay if it sits alone, surrounded by nothing on a clear safe counter where you can solemnly, carefully, reverently dismantle it for filling of water and grounds, and then ever so carefully and ritualistically placing each part on top of the other so that it will then deign to brew your oh so bespoke coffee. God help you if you fumble a bit. Returning. But will take pictures first to show you happy folk what I mean. Update: I hate that I love this. I stand by the plastic comments, but I just don't care anymore and I can't see a better way. It does a very good job, it's easy to clean and it is so stupid simple it just works. I would LIKE for there to be a metal option for the plastic parts, but I figure that would cool the coffee faster. UGH. I hate plastic, but this machine does exactly what it's supposed to and doesn't try stupid tricks. Oh and the coffee is improved over my last machine which wore out, so I can't complain! argh! :-D

Best Coffee I’ve Ever Had At Home
I’ve been using this coffee maker for about 2 months now, and I’m convinced this has been the best investment into my mornings in my life. It brews a fantastic cup of coffee very quickly if I’m in a hurry, or mornings a have a little more time, I love that I can bloom the grounds and play with the depth of flavor. The carafe keeps it plenty warm, and the machine itself has been flawless and easy to operate and maintain. You honestly don’t need to go out to a coffee shop for a normal cup of coffee if you have this machine. It’s that good. I’ve had multiple programable machines, most recently 2 Ninja’s (which both brewed decent coffee, but not nearly at this level of flavor extraction). I thought I needed that programmable timer being a lazy morning person. However, I find that waking up 5mins earlier to get this fantastic a cup of coffee is no big deal and well worth it. Yes, I know it would be even better if I ground the beans right before I brew, but this still tastes amazing doing it the slacker way. Anyhow, if you’re on the fence and are comfortable with the price tag, buy it. You won’t regret it. It’ll probably save you money in the long run between longevity of the machine and the quality of the coffee you can have at home.

FAST!!! ... but way OVERPRICED
I'll start by saying I DO like this coffee maker. It heats up the water incredibly quick compared to any other coffee maker I've had. And, I do like the design. The problem I have with it is the price vs the build quality. There's nothing wrong from a quality control standpoint but when you spend this kind of money, you expect it to be built like a tank. It's not. It appears to have the same light/thin plastic & metal parts that would come with any garden variety coffee maker. Why is this thing $329! The carafe has a unique design being full circle on top (there's no indentation for a spout to help channel the coffee when pouring it out). While it works, it's annoyingly scattered coming out since there's no spout. You also have to rock it back and forth to get the last little bit of coffee out since it appears to get hung up on the inside do to the design. None of these are deal breakers so I've kept it and do enjoy it. The speed is fantastic. But, in my opinion, this thing should be $99, not $329. No way.

Worth the expense for a excellent cup of coffee
While traveling in U.S. mid west we discovered that our coffee was getting cold very fast in the thermal carafe. After testing the temperature of the eater coming from the coffee maker we found that it was less than 165F. At home we had been using a mocamaster KBGT since about 2010 in our B & B, where coffee is the most important part of breakfast. We ordered another mocamaster for our rv and had hot coffee 195F for the rest of the trip.

Wonderful coffee, good usability
I prefer this over the glass carafe coffee makers I've used in the past. This is an older model but still holds up quite well and hasn't had any issues. The carafe and construction has a few nuances and things to get used to. The usage can be cumbersome the first few times with the multiple pieces, but I've grown to appreciate that this is to prevent delicate moving parts from breaking. Everything about this machine screams "I'm designed to outlive everything else in your kitchen". The replacement parts are easily available which means that your investment will hold good for a long time. The carafe is excellent and holds heat for almost 2 hours. I prefer having multiple small cups through the morning and it works perfect for me. The carafe can be slightly challenging to clean but it just takes 2-3 minutes of brushing and rinsing.

Exceptional piece of coffee hardware!!!
Received the coffee maker today and brewed a few pots of coffee. This really is an exceptional piece of coffee hardware. The build quality is unparalleled and it looks great on counter. I found my coffee to be much hotter and more flavourful that my previous brewer. This model allows you to brew half pots which is good if you’re the only coffee drinker in the house or simply want to brew a smaller amount. Cleanup is simple and quick using paper filters (#4 cone style). I tested the karafe and it held temperature for at least 2 hours. I would highly recommend this brewer to anyone looking to brew a serious cup of coffee.

Worth every penny!
Perfect temperature providing great flavour! So impressed. The best coffee I've ever had at home, and when only brewing 16 ounces. Highly recommend.

Makes delicious coffee
The brew is nice and hot, the coffee tastes really good. This model is only 8 cups, which is fine for just me and my husband.
