Well made
Technivorm is my favorite affordable coffee maker and I love that you can replace almost any part. I dropped and cracked my old one, so bought another. Works great and well made.

Could be so much better
Please keep in mind that I really enjoy the coffee that come out of my technivorm, I've had the machine over 20 years, and I use it just about every day, it makes good coffee, however it's plagued with use-design fails that would be SO simple to correct, that I shake my head every day thinking about how something so nice could fail to such stupidly simple things. The carafe won't pour a stream.. Because the spout is poorly shaped, it pours a big wide splashy river that is virtually impossible to get in a small cup, or god forbid a thermos. Every dang part requires gravity to keep it in place.. nothing clicks in, slides on tabs or channels or makes any positive connection that won't be disconnected by, let's say and earthquake, or someone closing a counter drawer too hard. When the top covers inevitably fall off, then are made of thin brittle plastic that shatters (I keep buying replacements..) This part, the basket, has a lever on the side that, might, possibly move a flow constrictor a half a millimeter, it might close SOME day, most days it goes from full flow to full flow when a microscopic spec of coffee clogs the constrictor. You could literally change this whole assembly with a sliding piece of plastic, instead of the ineffectual snippet of steel that doesn't work. The push on hot water arm bar might as well be a tube, instead of having multiple holes. It drops all the hot water down in one location, no spreading of the water over the grounds. It kills me that so many of these things that make this a pain in the rear would be SO easily fixed by simple design changes that wouldn't affect the function or the aesthetic of the machine..

Important replacement part
Same as original part (and necessary for the proper operation of the appliance).

Empties way too fast on half-open
I’ve owned a Technivorm for about 15 years and this is my third brew basket. I use the brewing method suggested by Sweet Maria’s Coffee: keep the basket closed for a while after the water reaches the coffee, then stir and switch to half-open until the brew is finished. However, I’ve found that, for some reason, as the baskets and their drip mechanisms age, the coffee takes longer and longer to exit the basket on half-open. Eventually, the baskets start to fill up, and it becomes necessary to switch to fully opened towards the end of the brewing cycle, in order to avoid an overflow. I replaced my original basket when I had to switch to fully opened after only a minute on half-open. The second basket followed a similar pattern, fine at first, then taking more and more time for the coffee to exit the basket on half-open. Unfortunately, this new basket has the opposite problem. It empties out so fast on half-open, there is almost no difference from having the basket fully opened. The result is weak, less flavorful coffee. I tried to find out from Technivorm if this very fast emptying time was by design, but they have no data on what constitutes a normal half-open emptying time. After ordering the new basket, I learned that it was possible to buy a replacement kit for the drip stop mechanism for $5 from Technivorm. (Wish I had known.) I ordered one and put it on the old basket. It was a simple process and now the old basket works perfectly again. The half-open emptying time is significantly shorter than with the old mechanism and significantly longer than that of the new basket. There is no longer a need to switch to fully opened during the brew cycle. So, I’m happy using the old basket with a new mechanism. I have ordered another $5.00 drip stop mechanism to install in the new basket, which, hopefully, will slow it down. I am amazed at the variability in the emptying time for these baskets. You can try to work around these issues by changing the grind, or turning the machine off for a while during the brew cycle, but it certainly would be preferable if those adjustments were not needed. As other reviewers have said, these baskets are by far the weakest link in an otherwise excellent system.

Better basket than the automatic basket.
I own a used Moccamaster from eBay, ( $330.00 new at Amazon). It has a broken basket bracket. According to Technivorn, USA the automatic and the manual systems are interchangeable. I have ordered both coffee filter baskets at Amazon for comparisons. I very much prefer the manual. On the manual, I can brew 4 cups maximum per brew. The half drain switch is excellent for this. I don't think I will be brewing a full tank of coffee unless I have a company to share some coffee with. My wife prefers Keurig. But, the manual drain shut off is the primary feature of this review. I will definitely order the manual mounting bracket on Monday. I always prefer the pour-over (drain off), stir the slurry for a min and a half, plus a 4-minute immersion process with 400 ml of water and then open the drain switch. The Moccamaster's main role in my system is to supply, consistently, the 200 degrees F of water and the basket as the jig. I really like this basket. Why I only give it 4 stars? The manual sliding switch from Closed to Half Open does NOT have a positive feel to it. Not enough detent. Technivorn should redesign the switch, i.e., 3-position cam actuation with detents. I recommend this basket to all pour-over users with or with no Moccamaster brewers.

Finally a Basket that Works
We love our coffee machine but have been through a number of these Brew Baskets and were giving it one more try and finally got one that works perfectly. I would order again

Perfect replacement
The basket was exactly as described and a duplicate of our old one. The drip is working as it should now. Perfect.

Just like the original basket that I'm replacing.
Just like the original that came with the machine that I inadvertently damaged.
