Smaller than the originals
I've been using these ear plugs for over 10 years, and this latest iteration is quite the departure from the originals (with the red and green filters). They are smaller, and I found them difficult to remove when they were fitted to make a seal in my ear. I used to love these, but sad to say I'll likely be trying something else in the long run. I'll probably keep these as backups, and it's much safer to use them with lanyard attached before inserting them in your ears - at least that way you won't struggle to remove them.

The only earplugs I have used for years
I am a professional musician, and protecting my hearing is incredibly important to me. For years I had been using the earplugs available from most otolaryngologists (Earn, Nose & Throat doctors) which are generally called Westone or Etymotic Research; both of those brands are just great, and come highly-recommended. However, I switched to these Vater plugs because they have removable filters, which accomplishes two things for me personally: 1) The Vater plugs are easier to clean than Westone/Etymotic, because you can remove the filters and run hot water all the way through the ear-plugs; Westone/Etymotic plugs are sealed. 2) The Vater plugs offer 2 levels of sound protection via interchangeable filters. The cylindrical aluminum case is a nice addition too, which is more rugged than the plastic envelope included with Westone/Etymotic plugs. However, my only complaint is that the included fob is a little to large for my tastes; a basic aluminum pill fob available at most drug and grocery stores is significantly smaller, yet still holds these earplugs and extra filters, takes up less room in my pocket/on my keychain, and doesn't have a gaudy logo emblazoned on it. I guess the Vater fob is probably oversized to accomodate the lanyard as well, so maybe it's better for those who intend to use the lanyard all the time; since I don't use it: I don't carry it, but I realize others might, so I am not deducting a star for this. Vater didn't have to include a case at all, it's a big improvement over the previous case (a big square zipper pouch) and it doesn't detract from how great these earplugs are. I had my first pair for 3-4 years; they lived on my keychain, I cleaned them every few weeks, and I only stopped using them because the stems (the part which receives the filter) started to split, and thus would not hold the filters anymore. $20 for 3-4 years of hearing protection seems like a fantastic deal to me. Pros: --Excellent hearing protection; as good as Westone/Etymotic plugs --Interchangeable filters; like getting two pairs of plugs for the price of one --Lanyard and (improved, aluminum) fob/case included --Easy to clean --Will provide many years of protection with proper maintenance Cons: --Fob might be too big for some people's tastes

Good, not great.....
First things first; these work but not as great as others are leading you to believe. I picked these up a few weeks back and have used them 4 times since while playing drums in my practice space. I am not a hard hitter but I would say I am on average with most intermediate-advanced drummers. They do not filter out higher frequencies very well regardless of Red/Green filter (I tried both) and a few rim shots or harder china hits and your ears will feel it. For going to a concert or something of that nature I think they would be fine but up close playing I am saying there are better items available. I recently received a set of Eggz ear plugs and they are amazing. They are based out of the UK so if you look them up you can see that they are similar to some other silicone larger filter ear plugs you can find on Amazon. I am not endorsed in any way by Eggz just throwing it out there as a better alternative to these. The large filter, silicone style plug has a much better full spectrum sound reduction as far as I'm concerned.

A must for the serious musician
As a bass player for www.bourbonblues.net I find myself besides the drummer very often, so I went for this Percission set. I'm very pleased with them, they filter the nasty frequencies and I can hear the drums my bass and other instruments very clear, I can also listen to voices when someone speaks without having to remove them. The double set of filters is grat, this way I wan choose how much sound passes. This is great because you don't always rehearse or play in the same b¿venue and it's a great way to adjust to different situations. I've tried all kind of Ear Plugs, from foam to silicone, even the ones intended for industrial work, they all sounded muffled, not this ones. The aluminum case is a great addition, it even has a small o-ring to prevent dust coming in. Easy to clean, all in all a must for every musician, don't get infuenced by the brand "Vater Percussion" it's not only for drummers, they work great for all band members

The only ear plugs for me
I've been using these ever since I started drumming (2007), only ear plugs that consistently stay in my ear and have good noise cancelation. They do what they are supposed to do and come with a keychain so that you can take them with you everywhere.

Good Tonal Quality
I can honestly say these ear pieces provide a hell of a lot more tone than a set of ear plugs, which is what I've been using. I actually can use these under a pair of headphones and modulate volume so I can hear the music and my drum playing as it comes over the drum mikes. Professionals pay big bucks for musicians ears, up to a $1,000. So this price is darn good. How much attenuation I'm getting is hard to say. BUt I've reached the point where I can't play without some form of ear protection. These reduce sound levels while at the same time providing more tone. If you're a drummer, I don't se how you can go wrong. That said, you still have to be careful with sound levels using these plugs.

Great Product
They work just fine. The video tutorial in their site is very useful if you use this type of earplugs for the first time. I wish the chord was more discreet.
