Works great for my tandem ebike
I had to modify it to work for my tandem ebike. I replaced the connecting angle with a longer one so it would work with a tandem bike. The only problem i have with it is that it is hard to get the straps around the frame of the bike.

Good Bike Rack but a bit narrow
When I first installed the rack, I was frustrated because it was too narrow striking the tires and forcing the bars to lean inward to meet the narrow joining bar. (see my 4th photo) But I found a review where someone had the same issue and repositioned their spare tire a little higher allow for more room. I retried the installation by first remounting the spare tire as shown in the 3rd photo. The top hole of the tire is now a few inches above the top bolt. This extra height gave just enough room for the Swagman bumper mount U-Clamps to be brought inward so the uprights are not angled too much. It's still a bit tight as it's touching the tire at the bottom but I am satisfied with the install. My suggestion to Swagman would be to provide the horizontal joining bar with greater length and perhaps multiple holes. Even 2" wider would be helpful to give more separation and clearance around tires. Also wider would help give better support for adult size bikes; the narrow bar seems better suited for child size bike frames. Installation of the upright poles into the braces was also a problem as I could not get them to slide into the square holes. I was tempted to pack up the set and return it due to the issues. 1.) Wouldn't fit the tire. 2.) Uprights wouldn't slide into the brace holes. 3.) Missing hardware. Note that missing hardware was a result of having purchased an open box set where obviously another frustrated buyer had returned the unit but without all the bolts. After finding the review for the tire fix (raising it up on the tire mount), I overcame all 3 issues. I ended up having to pound the uprights fully into the square brace holes (it will be difficult now to remove it necessary). Also had to purchase a set of 3/8"-16 nuts ($2+ at Home Depot for 10pc with nylon lock nuts) and found a bolt/nut for the horizontal crossmember in my spare hardware box at the house. Note that I got no support from Swagman via link from Amazon for hardware support. Appears the support is only for first purchase unopened product. You are on your own if you purchase the open box; but overall it was a savings for me with only a ride to Home Depot and $2+ cost. I see some negative reviews about uprights bending when loaded with bikes. I have not gotten to that point yet but plan on using ratchet straps to secure the bikes and rack to the tire as I believe the tire mount to be stronger. Overall I am now happy with the Swagman bike rack purchase but believe the company could make improvements to their product. Wider horizontal support bar with multiple mounting holes would be first on my list as it would not cost much more for 2" to 4" wider bar and more holes. Tolerance of the square uprights and related holes should be improved to ensure that all product can easily be inserted and removed with first time installation. I found mine to be way too tight requiring me to pound them into the holes making it almost impossible to remove later if needed like to change the tire. Finally the gauge of the upright tubes seem to need to be increased as buyers have reported bending when used to support 2 bikes with what appears to be normal use. Increase of gauge would increase costs a bit but should make for a more robust product and better customer satisfaction thus boosting the Swagman reputation.

I like the new rubber hold downs
Good value for the money. Fairly easy install. I had the previous model with the j hook hold downs. These new rubber hold downs are much better. This rack is made for bikes with a somewhat open bike frame triangle, like a typical man's bike. However, I was able to get my wife's small frame bike to work by using the top tube for one support and the underside of the bottom tube for the other hold down. It works great. I did add a pullback to the top of the rack to take some pressure off the riser tubes near where they go into the bumper holder. This is the weakest point. When the trailer is in motion the bikes bounce and therefore put more twisting torque onto the rack. By providing a preload tie back, the pressure will be mostly straight down onto the rack down tubes. This is what I did with the previous model and never had a problem in thousands of miles of travel.

poor workmanship-QC
I was excited to find this rack as it seemed to fit the need I had. Light weight and able to fit around my travel trailer RV. Product seemed sturdy enough, but I encountered the same issue several other reviewers noted. The vertical uprights do not fit into the receiver tubes in the frame that bolts to the bumper without using excessive force(rubber mallet) to bang or force them into or remove it from the frame. This is a deal breaker for me. WD40 didn't help. I believe the problem is due to the square vertical tube deforming slightly when the retainer pin hole is punched (not drilled) into it. Second, the corresponding hole in the frame receiver tube had material forced out during the drilling process that also prevented the vertical tube from sliding easily. Referring back to the punched out retainer pin hole in the vertical tube, one of the holes was not completely punched out leaving a big metal flap blocking the hole. This could have been drilled out, but by this time I was fed up with the whole thing. I expected more from Swagman. Come on guys, there's been more than a few complaints about this. Pay attention!

Excellent bike rack, but don't overload it.
This rack is pretty much as advertised. I purchased it with the intent of putting a lightweight mountain bike on it, only but also added a very lightweight road bike. I have just finished traveling 4900 miles with it (along some interstates with serious potholes). Both bikes had horizontal crossbars and I was able to move the rubber blocks to fit them quite tightly. The rubber stretch straps are a bit stiff to put in place, but are very tight when they are. I also used the nylon straps included to completely immobilize the bikes from movement while on the rack (minimized bouncing). The only modification I did was to add a ratchet strap from my spare tire mount to the top bar as added insurance to prevent the vertical bars from bending. (See photo). My advice is; use this bike rack as designed, don't overload it, immobilize the bikes. If you don't want crap from other people's cars falling off and hazarding you and your family, carry gear outside of your vehicle responsibly. Update: Now 8,234 miles (yes, cross country three times and no issues)!

Easy to install and rack the bikes. Not easy to take apart as claimed.
Bought this carrier for my Travel Trailer. It was super easy to install, only 6 bolts. It is easy to rack and unrack the bikes. But I have two issues. First one is minor. The bases where the upper tubes slide into, fill with water and rusts on the inside. I drilled a hole in the bottom on each side to let the water drain out and hit the holes with spray paint. The second is major issue. The top half is supposedly quick release so you can easily get to the tire or store the rack when not in use. Mine WILL NOT come apart. I am a 220' Soldier. No amount of pulling would get the upper tubes out of the base. I had to unbolt the whole assembly. Good news is I won't have to lock the top half to the base to prevent easy theft.

Very solid bike rack
This bike rack was the only feasible method to mount my bikes to a class C motorhome. I could not use the conventional hitch mounted racks. The issue with this rack was my bumper was 2x6 inch, not 4x4. Some customization had to be done and bigger u bolts purchased to mount to the bumper. I am very happy with this rack. The metal construction is solid, and mounted to my bumper with bikes in place, I am confident there will be no issues. In my installation the rack is firm in place, no bounce. My bumper is heavy steel, not as thin as the 4x4 rv hollow bumpers. My only issue is getting the newer style mountain bike frames over the large cradles. My bikes were standard Walmart/Canadian Tire variety. Installing and removing bikes is a little bit of a task. They do allow you to twist the cradles to better position your bike. The cheaper version of this rack would eliminate this problem. The cradles provide more stability and protection from scratches. Rubber straps securely hold your bikes in place. A nylon stap is included to hold the bikes together. Removable pins allow you to remove the rack portion and access your spare tire. July 2022-5 years later and many kms this rack has held firm. Installing and removing the rack from the mounted portion before and after trips requires a rubber mallet and occasionally dry lubricant Recently was able to access the 16" spare tire without removing bikes and the rack. Still happy with this product.

Just don’t buy it
Purchased this product to carry our two bikes which are aluminum lightweight. Drove approx 450km & noticed that the rack had bent over, nearly destroying my 2 bikes. Clearly not good alloys used & definitely not reliable nor safe. I do NOT recommend this rack.

Have confidence in your trailer's bumper
Product itself seems solid enough, but is pulling the bumper off of our Sportsmen. Just an FYI to prospective customers (we love our trailer, though lol). Pieces required a fair bit of encouragement to fit together, also.

Not good for women’s bikes and can be difficult to install.
Great idea but difficult to install if the spare tire isn’t high enough above the bumper. I have OEM 14” spare tire mounted on a 4” bumper. The bike rack bumper mounts needed to be closer together for it to be able to be removed. The rubber pieces to hang the bikes on are much too large for a women’s bike. I almost sent it back but decided to make adjustments to make it work.

Great product
Looks a little cheap in the photos but it’s not. Well-made and sturdy. Easy to install. Great value for the price. Wobbles a little bit because of the quick release. A bungee strap will easily fix that so that the bike is not rattling while the trailer is moving.
