Full review: Practical Experience and advise
Just installed a Curt custom trailer hitch on a 2016 Kia Sorento. We had a trip planned to Moab UT. That is a Mtn bikers mecca and with 3 new mtbs for our kids we needed a way to bring 5 bikes to make the most of some great trails in the State Parks. So we were depending on this to have some Spring Break fun on 2 wheels. Onto the Review. Overall: This is sturdy rack and a good value with some convenient design features. There are some design drawbacks that limit it's viability for some vehicles. Being able to carry five bikes on a trailer hitch rack is a big deal when you need as much cargo space inside your vehicle as possible and you don't have roof rack options at your disposal. This seemed like a good option and it carried 4 full-size adult bikes and one 24 inch girls youth mountain bike . 2 were Trek hard tail Mtn Bikes 2 were Diamond Back Trail bikes. So it worked as advertised and didn't fold under the pressure. The ability to lean it back away from the bumper was a good convenience feature that came in very handy a couple time when we needed to open the back hatch of the SUV! CONS: Okay there are some definite drawbacks to this design. · Horizontal length is long enough but barely! So the bikes are situated very close to your vehicle if your hitch receiver is not sticking out far behind your bumper. To fit 5 bikes on, One of the bikes must mount behind the post next to your vehicle/bumper. So this requires some careful planning of putting your bike on so you don't scratch the back of your car. This hitchrack isn't long enough to make it stick out enough to EASILY fit all 5 bikes on it. And there's no way you're opening the back hatch of your van or SUV. Without using the tilt down feature of the rack. On a pickup truck there is obviously no problem unless you have some desire to open the door on the bed of your truck. If your hitch sticks out really far behind your vehicle bumper then you should also be in pretty good shape and have some extra space to fit the bike on the front of the rack and the back of your vehicle. · Low clearance. For my SUV it was sitting pretty low to the ground and when the bikes were mounted they were also relatively low. The rack could have a taller post to raise the bikes for low sitting SUVs or vans. If you have a pickup truck or a high clearance vehicle where your hitch is more than 12 inches off the ground then you will have a lot more clearance for bikes. There was one moment when I heard the bottom of this rack scrape the ground going into a parking lot with a big dip. But we were moving a little too quickly. Other than that ground clearance was not a problem. I did worry sometimes so I was careful over bumps. · Hitch fit: If it easily into the two inch receiver. But when we hit any terrain that caused us to yaw you could hear the hitch rattling in the receiver quite a bit. You could try to do something like wrap some thin padding around but it's not a completely snug fit. The hole for the Bolt is smaller than standard therefore I could not use my lock to lock this rack into the receiver. The bolt that it comes with works but seems a little strange the way it is made. You will see. Basically the cons for this have to do with fit and clearance concerns found in the design. PROS: Nice features. Great value. Sturdy rack. Secure mounts. The two features that stand out are the pins which are securely wired/attached at key hinge points. 1 allows you to tip the hitch down away from your vehicle. That mostly comes in handy when you need to get inside the back of a van or SUV. It doesn't really help you load or unload bikes at all in my opinion. And there's a pin that allows you to lower the horizontal bars that your bikes are mounted on. This just comes in handy when you don't have the ability to take the rack out while you're on a trip yet you are not carrying bikes at all. It sits on your rig in a more tidy compact way when not in use. The rack is not Ultra long so it doesn't add too much length to your rig or but it can be difficult to put 5 bikes on this rack. All of your bikes must be really closely placed together because of the spacers between each set of rack mounts. When we first left I loosened the handlebars on the four adult bikes sitting on the back. Allowing the handlebars to turn parallel to the frame and wheels was helpful required more careful mounting to avoid cable damage on brakes and shifters. This was a moderate inconvenience because ultimately the bikes were still tough to fit in place so I don't think it was worth it. Plus it required having to deal with retightening and adjusting the handlebars after we arrived at our destination. You couldn't just get there and go fir a ride immediately or even walk the bikes around easily. Returning home I mounted the bikes without loosening the handlebars and all 5 bikes fit on the rack by alternating their orientation with handlebars facing opposite directions on each adjacent bicycle . This was a little more difficult to fit them on. You have to adjust pedals and handlebars to make sure the bikes sit well and strap down properly into the velcro straps and mounting brackets. I have had a trunk rack for years that has the same kind of set up so even though it can be difficult to figure out it's easy once you do. You just have to keep adjusting bike parts around each other. The reason I consider this a positive thing is because once you have the bikes all on and seated properly these velcro straps hold them very securely and I never felt like the bikes were going to fall off or come loose from the rack. It's also really easy to just loosen the velcro straps and pull them off when you're ready to go for a ride. So it takes time getting bikes on but getting them off is super convenient and easy. I do suggest having two people put the bikes on especially when you mount the very front bike that sits closest to your vehicle. It's very difficult for one person to mount that 1. I like the fact that your 5 bikes don't stick out more than 4 - 5 feet away from the vehicle. It seems like the compact design improves safety and streamlines your vehicle aerodynamics so the bikes don't get too much wind shear and the potential problems that could cause. It's very sturdy and I think steel Construction. I was a little worried about all the weight 5 bikes would put on this rack but it held like a Champion and seemed to have no major distress. I even tilted it down several times with all 5 bikes mounted on and it held just fine so that is a great feature allowing access to cargo. Summary: The Allen Sports 5 bike Deluxe hitch mount bike rack is a great value for a driver who wants to bring 5 bikes on the road for some group fun on two wheels. The rack is sturdy and big enough to get the job done while still being small enough to be convenient. It's not for professional cycling crews who have big expensive bikes that are competition ready. This is a great family vacation or weekend warrior rack for those who don't have pickup trucks or roof mounts that allow them to carry a lot of bikes easily. For the price it's definitely worth it just be ready to put in a little work to get the bikes on board. Getting them off and other uses are very well oriented in this system. It helps if your hitch is a little higher off the ground but if you're a careful driver you should have no problems. Smaller youth bikes will fit on this rack without a problem. This is a very good option for those who need to get their family bikes on the road and want to keep a tight budget.

Why pay more? This is what you NEED.
2 adults, 3 kids. Kids are getting bigger, which means bigger bikes, which means they no longer fit in the back of the minivan with luggage... Clearly, needed a solution and this 5 bike model fit the bill. I haven't loaded all 5 yet, but considering I used to be able to get 5 HEAVY bikes on a trunk mount with MUCH less space, I have no doubt that this one will do great, especially since my wife and I have upgraded to proper road bikes (Giant Defy & Cannondale Synapse) from the unwieldy and chunky big-box store bikes we used to have. Locking system is GREAT and I love how it tightens up in the hitch to prevent a ton of swaying. There will still be SOME swaying, but guess what...your vehicle sways too! I also appreciate the tilt feature so you can open up your minivan/SUV gate if needed; there's quite a few "nice" racks on the market where you'd lose rear gate access completely as long as the rack is on. Not so with this Allen! I'd love to have a "name brand" tray rack someday, but if you're looking to haul multiple bikes without paying more for a rack than you did 2 of your bikes, go with the Allen. The construction is great, the installation is easy, and they are built to last.

1300 miles offroading, kicked butt
1300 miles of road tripping and offroading, kicked butt. I almost never write reviews, came back just to say thanks to this Allen Brand for making this relatively cheap priced, but well made ???? 5 bike rack. Bought the deluxe or whatever for $190 cause it can fold down(go slowly) WITH 5 bikes loaded if you need to. And the straps are rubber with 3 points of contact, instead of the backpack strap material Went off road through Big Bend National Park, handled hella bouncy conditions no effs given! Can't speak on the cheaper versions of this 5 bike rack, but 20 hours of driving with 5 bikes and I'm so happy to have it. Also, the hitch lock mechanism is sick and basically prevents ALL hitch mount jiggling. 5 stars

Does not store flat, heavy steel frame
Great value, works well no real faults in product. Would recommend to bigger/stronger person or someone who leave rack attach for long periods of time. Not super convenient to set up each time you want to ride. I am small so I install the 5 bikes rack on my van in two parts. First insert bike rack hitch, tighten locken screw if equipped. Then I attach bike rack part, its just to heavy as one assembled unit. You will need to separate the hitch part off of the bike rack if you want to store it flat. Mine did not come with any washers for the bolts you might want to order some. With the amount of assembly and disassembly I would of appreciated 2 provided wrench that could be kept in vehicle at all time incase you need to tighten the bolts on long trips.

Difficult to load 5 adult bikes
Great rack, sturdy, very easy to mount on our Lincoln Navigator, and it folds down to about a 45 degree angle to access the lift gate. The huge problem with this bike rack though is that my husband and our 4 teenagers all have mountain bikes (mine is more of a road bike). It took my husband probably 20 minutes to try to load the bikes on the rack and it was NOT easy. He had them staggered, so one bike faced in one direction and the next bike was in the opposite direction. He still had to jam the pedals and handlebars through the tire spokes to get all the bikes on. Once those bikes were on, there was no way we were going to want to have to take them off and put them back on more than once during the current road trip that we’re on. The bikes were very stable once on the rack though. I was nervously watching them in the side view mirror during our drive, but they didn’t bounce around that much. All in all a great rack for the price, but just wish the bikes were easier to mount. Road bikes would probably be easier since the frames aren’t as fat as mountain bikes.

Allen Sports 5-Bike Premier Locking
I got the Allen Premier locking for 5 bikes because it requires no tools at all to attach to the hitch, fold the rack down when not in use, or fold away if you have to open the trunk. It has a built in lock with keys so a hitch pin isn’t required, the rubber securing straps are good quality, and it literally takes only seconds to install or make any changes. The only thing I don’t like is that the bikes shake a little when going over pot holes or train tracks so I try to slow down for them. Not sure if other racks also shake a bit since this is my first hitch mount. I've also started securing the bikes with additional bungee cords, or the included securing strap, which has helped. I've used it about 10 times in the past 14 months and have had no issues carrying 3 large mountain bikes or 4 smaller mountain bikes. Never tried 5 bikes but it doesn't have any issues loading bikes on all 5 of the different spots, which are equally spaced out (see images). Just need to place the smallest bike closest to the front if you're going to carry 5 bikes as large handle bars or pedals might touch the car. Also, if you're going in a long trip with 5 bikes you might want to lighten the load as much as possible by removing seat posts or front wheels if there's space to keep them inside. Good quality and all the time saving features needed in a rack. It's the best. Get it. Update: I loaded it up with 5 full-size (27.5”) mountain bikes on 4 trips in the past month. Each trip involved about an hour of driving. Bikes were secured with two extra rubber straps and they didn’t shake. The straps (not included) makes a big difference as they keep all the bikes secure.

Great bicycle Rack but a bit of Tetris to get 5 bike on it.
It does what it said but you will scratch your bikes a little bit and might have to play Tetris with the bikes a bit. Don't use that if you have a crazy expensive bike. But if you are like me and you like something simple that does what it made for, this rack is great. I've used it both on my F-150 and BMW X3 with no issue (doesn't touch the bumper) When you tilt it, the X3 tailgate can open, but the F-150 will sit on it a bit. I really like the locking mechanism that also removes any play and rattle. All other bike racks I've own did not have this, it makes such a difference and it's so convenient.

Terrific
This is a solid product, well built, intuitive, seemingly durable, and easy to use. It's as good as any Thule or Yakima, but half the price. It is supposed to fit five bikes, but the slot nearest the vehicle will only fit a road bike (which has narrower handlebars than a mountain bike); I think this is normal and common to all bike racks. Would definitely recommend to a friend and am happy with the purchase. (Original review: 5 stars) REVISED REVIEW: All of the above holds, with two exceptions. First, this is not really a rack that will hold five bikes without wrecking your paint. The brackets to hold the first bike closest to the car are almost unusable. Second, over the space of two summers (May to November) the rack has rusted at the welds. My guess is that it will not have a lifespan greater than five or so years -- once the rust gets worse, I would not trust its integrity and safety. I bought this Allen rack because it was the only one I could find during the great bicycle rush of 2020, although I now wish I had bought a Yakima or Thule.

Great hitch Bike rack
I got the 5 bike option with the lock and the locking option is definitely recommended. Super easy to install and seems very sturdy driving while the bikes are on the rack. Allen sports products always have great quality. Easy to put bikes on and off and also can tilt on an angle so you get access to to the truck on my SUV. I think similar quality bike racks cost a lot more than this one.

Great quality
It's great quality but very tight to carry 5 bikes. Love that it doesn't wobble on the road!.
