They definitely work but they're really fragile
I bought a 60mm tube for my roadbikd and didn't check the depth for my wheel which is 80mm. I bought two of these instead of the one I needed because I was worried they would be fragile, and they are. They do work very well and if you read the little instructions paper it comes with it will make sense. Basically it has a plunger that screws onto the presta valve core so you don't need to remove the core. However the width of the hole on the wheel for my valve stem was a little tight when I put it through so I pulled on it to get it back out and the valve came out with the internal plunger completely separating from the outer shell of the extender and ripping the rubberized seal threads out of the extender. Basically it completely fell apart. But this is why I bought two. Second time went fine but just avoid these all together and get a long valve stem tube from the start and forget screwing around with these things.

Perfect for emergencies when you can't get a tube with a long stem
Product does not deserve so many negative reviews. I always keep this in my bag because there is always someone on a group ride with deep section wheels and a spare tube with a valvestem that's too short. I use this and we're on our way. If you have a deep section wheelset, always best to buy tubes with a long stem. If you can't find, next best option is a tube with removable core and a valve extender, where you will remove the valve core and reinstall on the end of the extender. There are also the old Zipp style that required you to open and leave the valve open at all times - those were terrible. The Topeak extender is a far better option, but something I keep in my bag in case of emergencies only. I found myself on a long gravel ride with numerous flats and needed to borrow a tube from someone in the group. I was running a 60mm wheelset, but this extender let me use any tube I could get. The unit threads onto a stem and you simply press down on the brass tip and use friction to open and close the valve. After inflating, simply close the valve and even remove the extender if you'd like! Don't wrench the thing on there like a gorilla, it only needs to be on well enough to inflate. If it leaks a little during inflation, no big deal - you'll be closing the valve below the threads anyway. Yes, the threads are soft material, but it helps with the seal. I think it's a fantastic solution and am not aware of a similar product. In fact, I will buying two more since I have given all of mine away.

fits in your bike bag
This is a great tool to have in your bike bag. My wheels are thick and its hard to find tubes for them. This was great alternative to use the tubes I have and I don't need to purchase new tubes just yet.

Will Not Fit
The diameter of this extension is too large to fit through the rim hole of my HED Jet 6 Plus wheels. If you run into this issue do NOT enlarge the rim hole as I've seen others recommend. The rim hole is the diameter it is to support the valve stem and if you enlarge it the valve stem can separate from the tube while riding causing a dangerous blowout. Here are some options for 60mm rims: 1) Purchase 80mm tubes. 2) Purchase 48-60mm tubes with removable valve cores and use the valve extenders designed for those. My HED wheels came with those type of extenders (I only bought this Topeak extender in case of an emergency). 3) Purchase a valve extender with a smaller diameter than this Topeak one. 4) Purchase 60mm tubes and use this Topeak valve extender or one similar to it (the valve stem on a 60mm tube will stick out just enough on a 60mm rim so the valve extender can be screwed on without having to go through the rim hole). 5) In an emergency you can use a presta-to-schrader valve adapter with a 60mm tube (I had to do this once). The valve stem on a 60mm tube will stick out above a 60mm rim just enough to screw a presta-to-schrader valve adapter on and then you can use a CO2 cartridge with a schrader CO2 inflator tool (which is what a friend of mine who was riding with me uses; make sure it is the schrader tool and not the presta tool). The valve stem on a 60mm tube might also stick out enough on a 60mm rim for a pump or presta CO2 inflator tool but don't count on it. As mentioned above, this Topeak valve extender will also work in this scenario since it doesn't have to go through the rim hole. In any case, I recommend you always carry a presta-to-schrader valve adapter with you because then you can always re-inflate your tube from a gas station or garage or a portable air compressor that someone might keep in their car (even in a rural area someone might have an air compressor in their garage; just be careful not to over-inflate when using an air compressor of any kind). If you are using deep rims then just make sure you have options in the event that you run out of tubes during a ride (just in case no one else in your riding group is also carrying 80mm tubes). Also carry a patch kit and tire boot (or use the dollar bill trick) to be safe (especially when riding solo).

Get one to keep in your bag if you have deep rims
Great little extender, worked perfectly for me. Prefer this style of extender as it can be installed, used to fill the tire, then removed after tightening the nut on the valve beneath. Doesn't need to be left on, nor do you need to remove the valve core, which is great if you end up ever having to bum a random tube off someone (which might not have a removable core). Just make sure it will fit through the hole in your rim.

Great whilst they last
Excellent product until they fail, I have bought several of these and they make having Zip 303/404's bearable however when they go wrong it's game over and a completely new one needs fitting. I would say I average around 10 months out of one before it fails which is doable I guess but it's annoying so you always need a spare

nice piece
Very nicely made. I was skeptical but it is quite clever and works really well. Just to be clear, this is not like the semi-permanent presta valve extenders where you move the presta valve working guts to the end of the semi- permanently attached new extension tube. This Topeak device screws on for the pump up and then you take it off and tighten the valve per normal (ie. you need to have enough of the presta valve poking through the rim to be able to release the valve for the Topeak screw-on piece.) If your valve stem is so short as to be hidden down in the rim - get the semi-permanent extension tube referenced above (Continental makes some good ones, also at a ridiculously high price. I like the Topeak "temporary" extender enough that I even bought a second one, despite the ridiculously high price - the only downside in my view.

Chech the valve holes in your wheel, first.
Item looks great, well made etc. but too thick to fit through the hole in the wheel. Valve extender is 6.5mm in diameter.

Needs a better description as it will not fit most wheels.
The packaging contains a better description than the amazon product page listing.
