Very lightweight, clean up the look of your bike
These things do a great job at what they are designed to do -drop weight off of your bike as well as clean up the lines of your bike. Unless you are racing or in the habit of removing your front wheel every time you lock your bike up there really is no need to have a "Quick-Release" on your bicycle wheels. The time it takes to remove these skewers on a bicycle wheel is mere seconds provided you have an allen tool. EVERYONE should carry one of these with you on your bike with your spare tube and/or patch kit anyhow as well as a pair of levers unless you know for a fact your tires are thumb-loose on the rims. (don't forget that tires that have been on for a while can be much tougher to get off when they get dirty and gummy inside and can be tougher to remove than they were to put on when they were clean.) Anyhow, these skewers have an alloy bolt rather than the typical steel rod that many standard QR's have and don't have the extra weight of the cam & lever of a QR. That saves a ton of weight. There are disadvantages of these though: * Firstly, these are not in any way a "security device" and anyone buying them to add security is fooling themselves. Sure a QR can be stolen by anyone with hands but many bike thieves have allen keys -they only cost a few bucks and they probably got them out of a tool kit from the bike they stole yesterday. The silly special pitlock and other brands locking QR's are just as easy to defeat with a simple tool that you can buy in any dollar store -so they aren't any better either. * Secondly, because these skewers have an alloy bolt they can not be tightened as tight as a metal-rod QR. The threads will simply strip if you try. On the front wheel or on a back with vertical drop-outs this is not a big deal. They don't NEED to be tight. On a bike with horizontal drop-outs you will not be able to tighten these tight enough to keep the wheel from shifting when you pedal really hard. Don't do it. Either you will strip the threads trying to get it tight enough or you will not get it tight enough and the axle will shift the first time you really stand on the pedals like taking off fast at a stop sign/light. * Thirdly, if you do take your front wheel off in order to lock it these will add a little bit of time to your locking routine. It takes 15-30 seconds to tighten or loosen them even after you dig out your allen key. Also the alloy threads may wear out after being tightened/loosened a few times -especially if you are tightening them even a little too tightly. Also, be careful parking your bike with the front wheel removed as the front forks are VERY easily damaged if bumped/kicked/or gods-forbid stepped on if the bike leans over. Bent forks are really hard to bend back correctly without a special jig and your bike will always pull off to the side for ever after. That sucks. Most bike shops these days will NOT TOUCH the job of bending back forks with a special jig that does this as it is just too much of a liability issue in today's sue-happy world. They will want to sell you a new set of forks for $BIG MONEY$ plus labor to install. Just beware. I see so many people with their bikes sitting at a bike rack and the forks just waiting to get stepped on or kicked. It doesn't take very much to tweek a fork. A second lock is the way to go for the front wheel -these "bolts" aren't going to stop a thief or slow him down more than a few seconds more than a regular QR

What a great product to ensure bike rims aren't stolen! High quality & installs in just minutes.
What a great product to ensure bike rims aren't stolen! High quality & installs in just minutes. Bought these for kids' college campus bikes so they only need U lock to lock frame & not rims too.

Use on an indoor bike trainer
When quick release is not important and solid anchoring of indoor bike on a stationary trainer is required. It uses simple tools to install and remove wheels if required. Well made!

Good for what I needed
I have a semi-hard shell travel bike box where the wheels sit in one side of the case. I've flown with this case three times now and found I like the extra safety of having my wheels secured with skewered in the side versus held there haphazardly. One my last trip of 2020, I used the bike's original skewers. TSA roughed up my box pretty good and actually bent part of the lock mechanism of one of the skewers. My bike and wheels were okay, but the hub on that wheel was a little loose. So when travelling to DC this past month, I decided to order these heavy duty aluminum/steel ones that also have a little smaller/less protruding lock cap. They worked great for what I needed! They didn't get bent or fall apart, plus they kept my wheels secured against the box! I wouldn't use these on my Tri bike on a normal basis, mostly because I like the ability to change a tire quickly plus they are heavier than my tri skewers. BUT, if you are looking for a heavy duty skewer that won't come loose during some rough TSA handling.... these are for you too! :) Happy biking!

Good bye, quick release!
I was apprehensive about buying these- some negative reviews about them being unsafe and prone to failure, or not fitting. They are a good price so I went ahead and took a chance. I've been wanting to get rid of my quick release skewers for some time. They had some bolt on skewers at a bike shop, but they were around $50. These are great! They are light weight, and were easy to install. I was able to swap them out without having to remove my wheels. Tightening them was no a problem. Just use the proper size Allen key and do not over tighten. I was concerned that they wouldn't be wide enough for my frame- a common complaint about parts in these reviews. If you aren't sure of the size or compatibility of a part- do not buy it! Do your homework first. I have a Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike, and they fit it fine. The only thing is there is an extra bit of bolt thread sticking out of the nuts, I concealed it by adding another small nut or two, but if you have bolt cutters trimming them shouldn't be too hard. I love these skewers! They look much better than the old ones, and I don't have to worry so much about theft. I have lost 2 seat posts and a front wheel to thieves. If you have to lock your bike outside for a long time, get rid of those quick release levers! Sure, you can lock the wheels, but not so easy on seat posts. Having bolt on wheels and seats won't prevent theft alone, but it will deter the casual thief- as they are less likely to have the tools and unbolting parts can take time. It is nice to not have to worry about locking my wheels each time I leave my bike. I am converting my mountain bike into a commuter. So far I have bought a rear rack, a kick stand, and these skewers for it. New tires and fenders are on the way, I am considering a front rack or basket and sets of panniers. Anyway, these skewers are great, and you can hardly beat Amazon's prices for bike parts!

Good set of anti-thief skewers if you don't mind the extra key
I've been quite into these anti-thief skewers for my bikes ranging from special keys like this one to gravity locked ones. While I liked the gravity ones the best as it uses standard hex keys, this one is probably second given it's price. I use it on my child's bike. The triangular shape makes it hard to clip using pliers but it seems all use the same triangular key unlike those unique coded ones from Pinhead. This also costs much less and aesthetically looks great on the bike. The key is also a single piece of metal that is also quite compact.

Broken
Easy to install, but thin and fragile. I’ve installed it on by vintage bike front wheel, it snap and broke in two pieces when trying to tight the screw. It could had happen while cycling.

More secure
I like the idea of the triangular key being not readily available as an ordinary tool to loosen thing. The rounded head cannot be easily gripped by a plier should thief decides to steal it very briefly

The item is excellent. I have other security skewers. These are the best.
