This is nice when it's working, but it takes a lot of work to (keep) it working.
I am not compensated by anyone to write my review... This is nice when it's working. My pool has two vacuum ports, and this takes one of them...It's isn't providing much suction so, it's not the best. However, when it is working, it's nice to have. First, I must say I have a 9' x 18' x 52' Intex pool. It has two suction inlets. Also, just as a top item. I wish the assembly could better seal so the only way to suck in water was over the blue ring. The following is a description of that failing to work correctly. In order to get this to work properly, you must restrict the flow of the other. I have found a custom made plug, much like the gray one contained in it (only with a few extra holes from leather punch) works best. HOWEVER, you cannot leave your pool this way, as you will not get proper filtration and will have crap build up at the bottom. I usually take it off restrictor either each night, or when I think about it and let the pump run normally for a while with no skimmer attached. You could also just remove the skimmer hose, but it is a giant pain to grab again from outside the pool. It also helps to have this "skimmer" in the back corner. I thought the middle would work initially but it didn't seem to work as well as the back edge. I am afraid I might be disturbing the proper circulation though. One MAJOR problem, air in the lines as others have stated. ADDITIONALLY, periodically, the suction will no longer pull the basket down and activate the (blue) float ring to dip letting water flow over it. So instead it basically pulls water in from under the upper lip, or from the very bottom defeating the purpose of the skimmer. I really don't care for this design, but with some constant TLC, it will clear the leaves and bugs, etc. from your pool. My pool is next to an oak tree on one side, and a cherry tree on the other (holy moly, lots of cleaning). Essentially, I have to use whatever I can get to automate the surface. I also have to frequently vacuum, but it is worse when the skimmer isn't working. Today, I clean an nights worth of wind blow debris in about an hour (without manual skimming), but I did have to keep resetting the skimmer, and emptying the basket about every 20 minutes. This bring out another point that many have made. A good wave or wind, maybe a large bee are all good culprits and blowing the debris in the blue ring all over the pool. One method I use, take hand leaf skimmer (the oval looking one) and depress the blue ring while skimming the top bit of debris. That cleans a lot of it without much manipulation. Depending on quick/accurate I am, it usually fairs well. For the other times, it takes a bit to catch all the stuff I just dumped back into the pool. The mounting arm is pretty flimsy, and quite annoying. However, keep in mind it is adjustable for a purpose. If you have the arm too high, the basket will be very close to the top ring and might create to much suction, which will eventually cause it to stop functioning. If however, it is too low, the suction will not be strong enough to keep the blue ring below the water (ie situation described above where the water is sucked in below the blue ring), eventually causing it to fail. It takes a balance, and a lot of attention. I have taken to ,moving mine so it is angled forcing the front of the blue ring to always be slightly in the water (skimmer moved towards side of pool). The at least delays the suction issue where the blue ring won't dip below the water. Not great, but we do what we can. Skimmer socks (smaller cloth based filters that fit over the basket, inside the blue ring) will work great for a short while, but then get filled up with junk and blocks the port. It also makes it harder for a weak pump. I've tried them on the inside around just the basket, I've tried them around the entire assembly, which works for a bit. Ultimately, I think I might have figured out a way to keep them working, but alas, pull them off each time. The crap off Oak Trees can pass right through some of these wide filters, and reduce the suction on your pump. If you have a filter style, stop and clean it. One time mine was nearly clogged in under ten minutes (is in, I just replaced the filter with a new one, started the pump, 10 minutes later I had to pull it out and rinse it off again). I've also had the sand one need a backwash after a short time for similar reasons. Another note as some have stated. The blue plastic connector port for the side of the inlet WILL NOT work directly with a vacuum hose. That was an older connector design (probably around 2014 or earlier) that allowed a vacuum hose to be inserted in to the connector. Now that same area is covered by a plastic grate to prevent large debris. Apparently as others have said, the only way to get the correct attachment is the cleaning kit. I've just ordered one, so I'll review it once I have it. All in all, it's definitely a good thing to have, but it IS NOT set and forget. Sometimes it works great for a week, sometimes I have to screw with it every 10 minutes. Most of it has to do with the conditions it's operating in.

Amazing!!! Keeps our pool MUCH cleaner!!
The deluxe kit works well with the Intex Easy Set or Bestway Fast Set pools, which have the inflatable rings at the top. The skimmer comes with a bracket, which fits those type pools, AND a bracket, which works with frame pools. (Read description to make sure both brackets are included in set you purchase.) Also make sure your filter pump handles at least 800 gph. Suggestions for best performance: ????1. Unless you are using a powerful filter, use the plug, which comes with the kit, to put INSIDE the second strainer cap/cover. The plug PURPOSELY has a hole in it, so it slows down the suction on that strainer, but increases the suction on the skimmer! (The same plug is used, if you connect a vacuum to the pool.) ????2. Because high temperatures can cause the inflated ring to lose air, be careful! You don’t want your entire skimmer to slip to a slanted position, which will cause the skimmer to suction air into your filter!! ▪️I discovered, if I tie the skimmer bar, where the nut is, that adjusts the height, to the strainer base, which goes through pool wall to attach to hose, it keeps the skimmer from flipping up, if the pool is left unattended. You can still change the height of skimmer, depending on water depth. I have used a “horse knot” but a regular, tight knot works fine. I wouldn’t trust a bow; the suction could untie it!! Make sure ends of tie are short enough, so they aren’t flowing into skimmer. ▪️????This year, I just used a small, ball-bungee cord to tie it down. Super easy! ▪️Also, make sure the bracket is fastened pretty tightly—not so tight it could hurt the ring, but secure enough, that it’s difficult to turn it on the ring. Remember…, the inflatable ring will lose air, at times, so if the bracket isn’t tight enough, the entire skimmer could tilt up, when you aren’t looking, if it isn’t tied down, and air will be suctioned into your filter!!! If it’s tied down well, and bracket is snug, you shouldn’t have problems! (I haven’t had it tilt, since I began tying it down!! Yay!!) ????3. The Blue case, which has the basket inside, MUST FLOAT a little above the white outer casing! I would suggest allowing 1-2” between blue top edge and white casing. Water will flow inside white casing a little, which also filters water. When the blue part floats freely, the water is suctioned over the top, pulling debris on top of the water into basket. (You will notice leaves and bugs gradually moving toward the skimmer and then flowing over the top. Once inside, they can’t get back out,…as long as pump is on. ????4. BEFORE TURNING OFF THE FILTER, grab the handle of basket and pull it and the blue casing COMPLETELY out of the main, white casing of skimmer and out of the pool to dump debris on the ground. Then, you can turn off filter, replacing the clean basket/blue casing back into position. If you turn the filter off first…., the debris in the basket, especially bugs, will flow back into the pool! ????????‍♀️ (Sometimes, we learn the hard way! ????) ????5. Keep chemicals/pool water balanced. I mainly use chlorine, stabilizer, and algaecide. Baking soda can be used to raise ph and alkalinity, if needed, which will improve clarity and stability. Run filter a few hours/day. I use shock (generally liquid) and algaecide, if I will be gone a few days (leaving filter off). I haven’t had to drain the pool or had any problems flats year or this year. (I bought the skimmer last year!!! Makes a difference!!) I don’t cover the pool anymore, either, since I have the skimmer. ????6. The handle on my basket broke during the second year of use. However, it still works great. Recently, I attached a strong cord, so I could have a handle for my basket again. (You can buy baskets on Amazon. Just make sure you get the right size.) My basket has worked for 2 years, and I only had the handle break. ♦️NOTE: This year, we purchased a sand filter, which was made for these pools, and I have been AMAZED how much easier it has been to keep the pool water clean, clear, and balanced! I run the filter a few hours a day (skimmer still attached, of course) and test the water 1-2 times/week, as long as it’s balanced. I keep chlorine tablets in a floater at all times, but I don’t use NEAR the amount of chemicals with the sand filter, as I did with the cartridge filter!!! Watch for sales, which is what we did. The Bestway cartridge filter worked well on our 18’ pool, but the sand filter paid for itself, since I haven’t had to use and purchase as many chemicals!!! ✏️ We live in the country (farm land and ranch area with a dirt/gravel road), so the skimmer has been amazing for us!! It skims leaves, bugs, grass, etc, into the basket, keeping our pool MUCH cleaner, since they don’t sink to the bottom. You might wonder, at first, if it’s really working, but watch as items make their way towards the skimmer! When you clean the skimmer, you will see how much debris it captured, especially, if you live in an area, where bugs and leaves are constantly getting in the pool!! I realized that I have only had to vacuum the pool after big wind/dirt or rain storms. (It has been extremely dry here!). Of course, if I have been gone a few days, which means the pump and skimmer weren’t turned on, I will need to vacuum the pool and run the filter/skimmer, before swimming. I used the skimmer on a bestway fast set, 18’ pool last year and an intex easy set, 15’ this year--using the SAME skimmer! I won’t have another pool without a skimmer!!

Adapted Well To My Pool - An Effective Skimmer
This skimmer was not designed to be used with my above-ground pool, but a visit to my nearby hardware store enabled me to adapt it nonetheless. What impressed me was its performance. The included plastic clamps that secure this skimmer to my pool's support rails worked perfectly as did the adjustable vertical plastic mounting bar that enabled me to easily adjust this skimmer height to match the water surface. What I needed to adapt was the clear plastic hose from the skimmer that needed to be connected to my pool pump. The included hose was about about 2-inches in diameter, but the opening in the side of my pool that led to one of the hoses connected to my pool's filter pump was only about 3/4 inches in diameter. Once I found and connected a couple of plastic adapters, as shown in the lower left of my photo, that I could use for size reduction, I was able to establish good water flow from this skimmer. After adjusting the skimmer for optimum height the skimming process began. Within less than 24 hours all of the pollen, bugs, beetles and other debris that accumulated on my pool's surface were completely removed and eliminated either in the skimmer's basket or in our pump's filter. Instead of having to hand skim with a net, my wife and I can let this Intex Deluxe Wall Mount Surface Skimmer do the work for us...thereby giving us more time to enjoy our swimming pool instead of cleaning it.

Works really well.
Has helped so much in keeping the pool clean of the stuff I use to have to net out. I still net my pool but the time has been cut down.

Really good quality and does exactly what it needs to.
With my above ground pool situated on grass and having leaves and bugs around this is a must for a pool. I was actually surprised as to how much debris it scooped off the surface of the pool and kept the water clean.

Another Intex product that doesnt work that well with Intex products
I have a large Intex metal frame pool filled to the fill line as according to Intex Instructions. The clamp for this skimmer is as high up as it will allow but the floating basket is now barely still in the housing. Any movement of water in the pool and it floats away. Intex really need to check their own products work with their own products, this is the third Intex product I have that does not quite work with others.

Really good skimmer
Excellent skimmer, takes all the mess off the top of the pool, really powerful. I use it on my 15ft metal frame pool.
