Happy Mother’s Day to myself!

I’ve never liked my ironing board cover and pad (foam, really? not much of a pad…) and my latest cover had elastic in the casing that kept needing to be pulled tight hence the cover repeatedly falling off, scooting around while ironing, you know what I mean. Then it occurred to me the other day to search with the word ‘professional’ added to ironing board pad and cover since I was done with my current ones. Ritz has come to my rescue!!! I cannot say enough about how completely wonderful this set it: truly THICK and sturdy separate pad, beautiful HEAVY cotton cover with cording in casing to tighten, extra elastic with alligator clip to attach underneath for extra stabilization. Definitely worth the money! This set checks all the boxes for me : ) Oh, and I also got myself an orchid!

This will work for what I need.

I iron twelve to fifteen articles of clothing with heavy spray starch every week which consists of my husband's dress shirts and slacks. Recently I had to replace my ironing board and bought a standard 54" x 14.5" four leg ironing board from Wal-Mart for less than $20. I purchased Wal-Mart's standard brand ironing board cover for this size ironing board for approximately $10 and it was made of poorly constructed foam backing which tore as I stretched it across the ironing board. I went to Target next and purchased their mid quality cover (made to fit boards up to 54") for approximately $14, and I was impressed with it's thickness and quality backing, but it was probably sewn incorrectly at the manufacturer and would not stretch the full 54" to cover my 54" ironing board. Next I turned to Amazon.com and read through the reviews and decided to base my purchase on what I read there. I am beginning to trust the reviews on Amazon because I am agreeing with most purchasers' products reviews. I will rate this ironing board cover based on my experience of how well I feel it stacks up to what I have used. Pro's : - It has a drawstring around the outside perimeter that allows me to place the cover over my ironing board and pull the string to my desired tightness. Most store brands only have an elastic sewn edge. (I give it a whole star for the string closure) - It is sewn with extra width and length correctly so that it overlaps my 54" length by 14.5" width ironing board on every side. I love that! (Counts for one whole star) Wal-Mart and Target's items did not match up on this. - It has an elastic band and metal clip fastener sewn in the mid section under the cover that stretches across and clips to the other side. Love this feature! (Counts for one whole star) Walmart and Target's items did not have this feature on the items I bought and tested. - Costs less than what I had paid for a cover at both Wal-Mart and Target. - I ordered this on a Friday from amazon.com, and received it the following Monday. And this was with the Super Saver shipping!!! :) Con's : - The cover is thin and would not work well without their pad underneath. - The fabric's surface cover tends to cause the shirts and pants to not easily glide across it as I pull them on it to arrange it. I am describing gliding potential. I am placing a 60% cotton/ 40% polyester Van Heusen Men's shirt on it and tugging the shirt tail a bit to get the shirt to move down on the surface from where I have it placed and it does not easily glide. (If you have dry hands and you glide a nylon sock across them and it grabs and holds, this is the same type friction I experience with this cover) I am not sure if this is from the treated surface or just the type cotton (says 100% cotton cover) material that is used. I have not used it enough to see how the starch residue will affect it and may give an update on that in time. I will say that if you are debating buying this cover, make sure that you already have a quality ironing board pad. I also purchased the Ritz Professional Heavy Weight pad and I am very pleased with it's quality construction and price (I rated their heavy weight ironing board pad 5 stars) and paired with this cover, seems to offer the best possible use of my ironing board for what I need. The pad is very thick and quilted construction. If used with this thick pad, I can understand why the cover itself is so thin.

I'm self-sufficient and won't ever pay someone for what I'm capable of. I like to iron and do things around the house and maintain the place I call home. The only thing is the overly fresh smell from heavy fabric fresheners/softeners in the factory - it marks very clearly on the package - DO NOT MACHINE WASH so I will just have to wait for the smell to dissipate. It's sturdy, lays flat very well and absorbs a lot of moisture from the steam to prevent my board from dripping excess water which used to make ironing take twice as long. Ironing tip for men's dress shirts - I've always used this order to make things go faster: 1. Start with sleeves, lay flat, crease top & bottom of arm (keep sleeves unbottoned, iron around cuff while flat to get rid of creases) Creased cuffs are not flattering. 2. Shoulder (use the end of the ironing board to iron shoulders - some will have depth while others are very small) 3. Flip shirt over as a whole, move to the back of the garment, working from left to right. Shirts that have excess material (creased "slats" on left and right side under the shoulder line are a sign of excess material and those kinds of shirts should only be worn by men with larger frames) should be tailored as these are difficult to iron. 4. Flip shirt again, pull the top of the button side over the bottom of ironing board to get the neck area, then move the shirt parallel with the board to iron the button side of the garment. 5. Same as Step #4 but you are moving to the yoke side (the side that receives the buttons). 6. Finally the collar - if there is excess material, start by ironing the back of the collar first so any creases are hidden. I'm always sure to give a good blast of steam to the points of the collar. Note: I ONLY starch the sleeves, yoke and collar of a shirt - starching the entire garment will defeat the purpose of ironing at all as it will wrinkle with the smallest amount of contact.

I have purchased a few ironing board pads lately and returned them all except for this one. It thick and is of great quality.

It fits my ironing board perfectly over the Ritz 80000 Cotton Pad. My board is 53" long. I was worried it may not work because I have an iron stand on the end of the board, but it worked great. It has strings to tighten it which worked fine and also has a strap to go across the middle to hold it tight. Very happy with it and would purchase again.

Lasted Almost 3-Years

Although I believe this cover is of better quality than anything I could have purchased from a local bricks and mortar store or elsewhere online, I was somewhat underwhelmed once I removed it from the fancy packaging. I looked at it and thought, "I paid how much for this?" During initial uses, water accumulated along the underside of our expanded metal ironing board. When the board was folded, the water ran to one end and saturated an end of the new pad and cover leaving a noticeable stain or mark when dried. Now it is a reminder not to set steam production too high on our steam generator iron. Not having purchased an ironing board cover for a long time, I can not compare it for fit to anything else. After almost 3-years of domestic use, the cover has developed holes and needs to be replaced.
