Great design - not the best assembly control
The clock's function is excellent, indeed a great design. Unfortunately the quality of the assembly control is not very good. When it arrived, the turning mechanism was quite bound up - turning it with the little knob in the back was nearly impossible - turning using the minute hand ( Fully instructions - NEVER use the hour hand ! ) was OK. I am a serious DIY person, so I was finally able to free it up. Once the back knob was usable then the clock becomes very versatile. This is the large size unit I am talking about. The size is excellent for teaching.

Must have for a teacher!
Great for use in the classroom to teach telling time. The different color hour and minute hands make it easy for the students to learn how to identify hour versus minute while learning. Highly recommend.

Learning to tell time
Purchased as a home-school aid for 6yo learning to tell analog time. You can't advance the hour hand by itself; must move the minute hand around and around to hit the correct hour. Purchased to drill kiddo on the time, but it's a bit more time consuming (haha) than I anticipated to set up the clock since I have to flip the minute hand around on the clock to reach the desired time (i.e. start with 7:40 then 5:43, have to move the minute hand around and around to get the hour hand to move). Had to adjust our lesson plan. Definitely durable and large, which is great. MUCH better than the paper "clocks" we were working with from his home-school curriculum, which kept ripping. Will donate to the local library once we are done with it; imagine it will last quite a while.

Verry disappointed
I'll keep it but I am very disappointed in this clock. I love Learning Resource products but this clock was a let down. Hopefully my kindergartener will learn how to tell time with this but she will not be able to turn the hands with the knob on the back. It is so hard to turn that I have to turn the hands on the front. My idea was to be able to turn the know slowly from the back and have her tell me what time it is. Now I have to keep turning the hands from the front. I really thought I would be able to turn the hour hand to change from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock without going around 6 times. It is also very thin. I was using it on my kitchen table and the sun was shining through the back and I had to change my position so it was out of the sun so I could see the front. I was expecting it to be thicker. I'm also afraid that the thin hands may break with too much play. I'll have to tell my kindergartener to be very careful. I thought about buying one for her class to use but I think I'll pass as it probably would not hold up with all the kids.

Great concept. Slightly inaccurate mechanism
Great concept. My son liked it a lot and squirreled it away in his room to hide it from his sister. Con: the mechanism is slighty inaccurate, e.g. the hour hand doesn't point exactly where it should for some hours. I used this as an opportunity to say that the important thing is to first look at where the hour hand is approximately. But I'd still prefer a clock that didn't have this deficiency.

Excellent quality, tough enough that strong toddler hands won't break the hour and second hands
My 3 1/2 year old is learning how to tell time. I first purchased a digital wrist watch for him. MISTAKE # 1. That really confused him. I then learned that toddlers must be introduced to telling time with regular analog clocks.....with hour and minute hands. I then purchased this, put his digital wrist watch in hiding and purchased an analog "clock" style timex wrist watch for him. In 3 days, he was able to tell time and when I told him "put it to 3:30" he would put the correct time on this learning clock. I also recommend that you also purchase a "clock" for your home if you don't have one....try to hide anything digital while they are learning the basics. Only after they have mastered the basics, do you want to introduce the digital stuff. so......in summary, for a young toddler to learn and tell time you need : 1.This 12-hour demonstration clock 2. A wrist watch with a clock, no digital number read-out watches (search for timex toddler watch) 3. a wall mounted clock for your home that works and matches the time on his/her wrist watch. Great learning tool
Love this big clock face. Easily and quickly taught 5 year old to tell time with this happy looking clock. Love the bright yellow coloring and ease of adjusting time . A must have for anyone teaching children to tell time.
