Serves its purpose well

I was ridiculously excited to get this gate. We got it as a 2nd layer to keep the dog from eating the cat's litter. First, it was well packaged. It was tightly packed with a little foam wrapper around each part. And by tightly packed, I mean watch your fingers pulled the pieces out- I pinched mine. Second, it was fairly simple to assemble once I figured out which parts were which. There's no numbering or lettering on them. However the directions clearly showed which one to use by the distinctive holes on each one. In total it took maybe 10-15 minutes to assemble. The hardest part was keeping it upright and aligned while you screwed the front panels together. Finally, it seems pretty sturdy. I wish the feet extended the same direction as the side panels instead of out the front. I foresee stabbing my toe regularly. But if that's what gives it stability to be freestanding, I'll deal with it! The material is solid and the metal bars are only about an inch apart. A gerbil, ferret, or kitten MIGHT be able to squeeze through, but there's no way the cat or our Schnauzer-mix dog are getting through. It does not lock into place against the wall or anything, but if you used zip ties or a chain, you may be able to make it unmoveable. It also isn't a sliding expansion. If you want/need to make it longer or shorter, you have to remove a bolt from the top AND the bottom edges of the 2 front panels. The side panels are also bolted in so they dont swing. So if an animal or a child would lean up against it, the whole thing will slide or move, but it won't collapse or slide together/apart. Good purchase! I think it will work well to keep the dog out of the litterbox!

Stylish and well-built, but not quickly adjustable

This is a great gate. Fits the aesthetic of our house perfectly. Though easy to put together, it is not quickly adjustable. Changes to the width require removing and replacing screws.

Does the job!

This gate definitely keeps our two dogs off the stairs! We all also have had no issues stepping over the gate, including our four year old, to get upstairs or downstairs. I think we have only moved the gate once for someone to get upstairs. I also absolutely love how wide this goes as it fits our stair entrance beautifully. I’m rating it four stars because if you can see in the picture, the one side does lift a bit. I’m not sure if it’s a defect in the actual product or we screwed up something when putting it together. The directions were pretty easy though so I’m thinking it’s a possible defect. The lift on the one side hasn’t caused any issues as of yet though so I still highly recommend this if you are looking to keep your dogs from heading up the stairs. For reference: We have a cavapoochon (15 pounds) and a golden doodle (48 pounds). Neither have been able to jump over it or knock it over.

Good sturdy gate

Sturdy-Nice-Wood-Adjustable Gate

We have used this gate for a year now. It is still in great shape except for normal wear and tear of every day use, such as scuff marks that have appeared due to moving it from one doorway to another. I love the fact that it is a free-standing gate. Although it is free-standing it is very sturdy. My dogs are only 13 and 12 pounds each, but when they are both standing and leaning on it, it is still not moving. It does not slide on the tile floor and it does not lean. Another plus for this gate is the fact that when it is not in use it stores flat. The 'legs' fold in and you can lean it against the wall or slide it under the bed for storage. Another great thing is that it fits different size doorways. We use it in a regular size doorway and also in a dining room opening that used to have double doors. It is 20 inches tall, which means both pups can jump over the top if they really want too. They stand 10 inches tall. The point is to train them not to jump over the gate. I have one who will not jump over it for anything, and the baby who jumps over at almost any opportunity. More training is in order for her, lol The gate is just a barrier to be used to let them know an area is off limits. If you need a definite barrier for your dog you may want to get a taller gate. I don't know if this brand has a taller one, but if so, I would highly recommend it. The quality is great and it fits into a room just like a piece of furniture. **Update: August 13, 2014 Just wanted to add an update for this product. We are still using the pet gate. It is still in great shape, sturdy, works properly, and the wood is still looking great. We have since ordered an additional pet gate of another style from the same company that is also just as well made. **Update: February 27, 2015 Just another update for this pet gate. We are still using this pet gate. Although we are not using this one on a daily basis anymore, we do use it to block off rooms at different times when needed. We use a larger pet gate from the same company that has a door we can walk through, and we do use that one every single day. The wood on this gate is still in great shape, the screws are still sturdy and everything is in working order. Yes, our pups can jump over this gate, and they are only 10 pounds, but a gate is only a barrier. However, they don't jump over because they know that when the gate it up they are to stay on the other side.. You also have to consider training along with any gate you purchase. This company has great pet gates and I would buy another from them in the future if I decide I need one for another are of our house.

Great barrier..

We have a small dog. The height, weight and look of this sturdy gate is brilliant. The only thing it doesn't have is an opening which is a pain as it means I have to lift it for the dog to enter. It has made a real difference though....no more fear aggressive nips at neighbours!

finally a gate for our fireplace

I could not would not gate off my fireplace with a typical baby gate. This is well well worth the money it doesn't make my family room look too terrible and over time my eyes have adjusted I don't know if I could say the same for a plastic gate. We actually had to modify the feet to fit our fireplace by cutting them but this was easily done. The metal rivets will heat up if you have the fireplace going for a while so be cautious of that but not to a dangerous level

Doesn’t work around smarted dogs, they will push off the wall and still get past it

Worked well for two days by day three the dog figured how to push it off and over. Since there is no pressure fit for the doorway, it goes around the doorway and doesn’t weight much, if you have be nothing to anchor it too or don’t want to install hooks to attach rope or bungie cords too, it becomes useless quickly

Perfect for temporary separation needs!

This product was perfect to keep my dogs separated after one had surgery. I did not attach the two pieces as I needed to easily open and close the area to get the dog out and each standalone section is very secure. I was able to only use half of it after to only keep their beds separate.
