Chinese Quality; poor Calibration.
Don't expect to Zero / Calibrate unit. As others have stated in online reviews; the Calibrate feature on this LCR meter doesn't complete / work. First unit had defective probes; but Amazon replaced the unit without issue.

It works
It works very nicely, a very nice piece of gear to have around..

Great LCR meter so far
The Reed R5001 LCR meter is a great tool to find out the characteristics of passive components in any lab. I received the meter yesterday and was able to do several tests on parts that were available in my lab. IMPORTANT! The unit I received is different than the one shown in the product picture above (and all the pictures all over the internet). It has the test blades in the front and does not have the ridiculous warning saying you can't connect voltages lower than 30V (<30V). The meter feels sturdy, has rubbery protective cover in the back and on its surroundings and has a very large 3.5 inch square LCD screen with great contrast. The backlight is white and very well distributed on the screen (it is on for a maximum of 60 seconds). One drawback: the screen is extremely glossy and causes too much reflection. The buttons are made of rubber and have a nice tactical feel. I did not feel any lag between pressing a button and the desired function being activated - the meter is responsive. One detail is that every key press is followed by a smooth beep, giving keypress feedback. This appeals for some but can be tiring with continuous use. Fortunately the beep is not loud and has a nice tone (not ear-piercing like an alarm clock or fire alarm). The meter has a very large stand that keeps it very stable and at about 45 degrees on the top of the desk. It comes with three high quality probes: two of them have banana tips that attach to alligator clips as well as plastic covers (to avoid shorts in high density boards); the other one can be connected to an alligator clip and is green in color (used to connect to ground and reduce noise in measurements). It also comes with a nice tweezer probe (to probe SMD parts) and two DMM-like probes (not sure about their use, as they don't seem to fit anywhere). The meter starts in full automatic mode, which automatically selects the function depending on the device attached to its probes. A nice feature to quickly measure something, but any attempts to change parameters (frequency, D/Q/phase/R, series/parallel, etc) cannot be done in this mode. For that, you must press the function button for a couple seconds to enter manual mode. Just a detail, but I would rather prefer if the meter could remember the last mode used before turning off. The four stars rating is due to a minor issue with how the meter arrived to me: the box was closed (not sealed) and the probes were all sealed in their plastic bags. The meter itself was not, and it was covered in a very fine white dust, which was particularly sticky all over the rubbery protective cover (it better meet the claimed IP67 standard!). Also, some very minor scratches in the front and one in the back, as well as a peeling sticker give the impression this unit was on display. Not sure, though. So far I am very pleased with the meter. Will still do some more testing and report back if anything major is evidenced. Edit as of May 26th, 2013. So far this meter has been doing a great job for me, with two small drawbacks: the supplied probes and SMD tweezers add capacitance/resistance/inductance to the measurements. To solve this I created two short probes (I used 10cm of wire with a banana plug in one end and an alligator clip on the other), and purchased a higher quality SMD tweezer (Agilent U1782A).

Reed R5001 LCR meter
Bought it on sale price. The meter is easy to use. Most time it keeps a good consistent test value repeatedly. The built quality is just OK due to component test slots alignment were not fitted at the factory. I had to open it up and resoldered the slots to make them aligned to the case opening.
